..O INTRODUCTION
The Janet Lake property is a joint venture between Noranda Exploration Company, Limited and Noranda Minerals Limited (Geco Division). The project is funded 1000xb by Geco and operated by Noranda Exploration.
The Janet Lake claims were staked as follow-up to an airborne survey flown in late 1988. The claim block covers several linear airborne magnetic trends which possibly outlines the re-folded north limb of the Manitouwadge Syncline.
During the summer of 1989 ground follow-up work including mapping, lithogeochemical and soil sampling. Limited VLF and magnetometer surveys were also carried out on the property.
2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS (Figure 1)
The property is located approximately eleven (11) km north-northwest of the town of Manitouwadge in Mapledoram Township. It can be accessed via logging roads (Janet Lake and Husak Roads) off the Caramat Road.
3.0 PROPERTY DESCRIPTION (Figure 2)
The Janet Lake property consists of eighty (80) contiguous unpatented mining claims comprising approximately 1300 hectares in Mapledoram Township (claims map #G-2859) in the Thunder Bay Mining Division.
The claims are recorded in the name of Noranda Exploration Company, Limited. The following is a list of claims numbers;

'4.0 PREVIOUS WORK
Very little work has been recorded on the Janet Lake property. GDIF-report #190 indicates drilling and ground EM by Kenlew Mines Limited (American Metal Co. Ltd.) in 1954. No results were available. In October 1954, Clinger Gold Mines Limited reported 485.1 feet of drilling which intersected pyrite, garnets, epidote and pyrrhotite mineralization. No assays were available.
5.0 REGIONAL GEOLOGY
The area is located near the interface between the Western Abitibi Greenstone Belt and the Quetico Metasediments to the north. The most dominant feature is the easterly plunging Manitouwadge Syncline. The stratigraphy of the syncline consists of mafic metavolcanics overlying interbedded metasediments and iron formation with minor felsic metavolcanic units. These rocks have been intruded by metagabbro and several granitic phases. Granitic gneisses occupy the surrounding area and core of the syncline although the metavolcanics and metasediments plunge eastward beneath the granitic core. The metamorphic grade ranges from amphibolite to upper amphibolite facies.
The lense-like ore bodies (Geco, Willroy, Big Nama and Wfllecho) are located on the southern limb and nose of the major fold and are considered to be syngenetic- stratigraphic deposits which have been overturned.
6.0 WORK PERFORMED
6.1 Airborne And Ground Geophysics (Map 2)
In 1988, Noranda Exploration contracted Dighem Surveys to fly a magnetic- electromagnetic geophysical survey over the northwestern section of Manitouwadge Syncline. The airborne EM anomalies on the Janet Lake claims have been interpreted as being surficial responses. The airborne magnetometer survey indicated several linear east- west oriented trends.
During the summer of 1989, follow-up ground EM (VLF) and magnetometer surveys were carried out on two flagged grids. The VLF anomalies were interpreted as conductive overburden and the magnetic trends were explained as magnetite-bearing felsic gneisses.
6.2 Geology (Map 1)
The outcrop exposure in the area is generally poor and limited mainly to old logging roads and the odd ridge. The 1:5000 geology map was produced by mapping along the old roads, claim lines, and airphoto controlled traverses.
j The property is underlain by interbanded units of mafic and felsic gneiss, migmatites, weakly foliated to banded granitic gneiss, and massive granitized gneiss. The
1 units strike east-west to northeast-southwest with variable north and south dips. Porphyritic granite occurs to the east on the property. Interpretation of the gneissic origins (supracrustal or intrusive) is difficult due to the high grade of metamorphism in
l ' the area. Pegmatitic dykes were a common occurrence in the area. All units are intruded 5 by north-northeast striking diabase dykes. Two major faults occur toward the east of the f property, the Mose Lake Fault (315*) and the Cadawaja Fault (010 *). s
6.3 Geochemistry (Map 2)Kj Representative samples were collected for whole rock and Cu-Zn analyses. The
sample locations are plotted on Map 2. The descriptions and certificate of analyses are l given in Appendix I and II respectively. Soil surveys were also carried out over the linear l magnetic trends. The results are given in Appendix III.
)j The whole rock analyses indicate a lack of chemical alteration zones. Sodium ' depleted samples are mainly restricted to iron formation.
Rocks analyzed for Cu and Zn showed no significant mineralization with the t exception of a few low sporadic anomalous values.
The soil survey failed to outline any mineralized targets. Only a few samples showed Cu-Zn mineralization higher than 200ppm.
.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Soil and lithogeochemical surveys failed to identify areas of mineralization or alteration on the Janet Lake claims. No further work is recommended for the property at this time.
Respectfully submitted,
