Purpose: to enable European higher educated women to participate in the progressive development of European society.

The board consists of volunteers whom all have a job and a family to take care of.

The UWE only supports the travels of the board members in a limited way so a lot is asked from board members.

Happy to say more support was generated the last year to increase the impact and share the workload.

As president I took it upon me to do also most of the tasks of the Secretary General which was a vacancy since the end of 2012.

1. Anne Nègre as Gender Advisor for UWE Board she is elected in 2014 as

Gender Advisor for International NGO Conference of Council of Europe.

The Council of Europe is the continent’s leading human rights organisation. It includes 47 member states, 28 of which are members of the European Union. All Council of Europe member states have signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights, a treaty designed to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The European Court of Human Rights oversees the implementation of the Convention in the member states. The European Union is preparing to sign the European Convention on Human Rights, creating a common European legal space for over 820 million citizens.

2. Annelies Pierrot Bults as advisor to the UWE Board and treasurer of the

European Women’s Lobby.

The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) is the largest umbrella organisation of women’s associations in the European Union (EU), working to promote women’s rights and equality between women and men. EWL membership extends to organisations in all 28 EU member states and the three candidate countries, as well as to 20 European-wide bodies, representing a total of more than 2000 organisations.

September 2014 successful Conference in Bucharest Romania. First time event for small NFA but very well done. Theme was Quality Education for all in Europe. ◦ Speakers from Council of Europe on the dialogue tool kit and

European Schools◦ Political leaders and well known university professors gave

lectures. ◦Art and culture was well represented.

Travel fund, lottery and shop was approx. 200 Euro’s. President was part of the organising Committee and master of ceremony.

Correspondence [email protected] mostly with new CERs and discussion with Finland on proceedings AGM. Resulted in meeting before this AGM with the new CER.

Facebook newly installed in October 2014: now approx. 250 likes. News is shared easily and

Website: more and more followers now 408 people who get the posted news items. Approximately 140 articles on UWE topics and EWL and COE. And succes lately three new members via the website

October 2014 visited the Italian NFA in Rome where they had their annual meeting and met with all the local presidents of the NFA (partly paid by UWE)

Discussion was on proceedings at the AGM in 2014 to which their representative unfortunately couldn’t come due to an air strike.

Meeting with new VP Elena Flavia Castagnino to discuss projects as a follow up from the theme Quality Education for all. These will be on the agenda.

Visited in November 2015 Slovenia, by invitation of the DAB ; a conference as part of the Gruntvig project Violence met by Educated Women in which five NFA’s participate. Had the honour of opening the event. (Paid by Gruntvig)

Very impressive presentations on family violence and the role of educated women.

Results reflection on possibility of having the UWE AGM in Slovenia, unfortunately it was not possible for 2015 because of all the work involved in the Project VMEDW. ROXANA COULD YOU ADD SOME PICTURES FROM THE PROJECT??

March 2015 Invited to do a speech on Afghanistan in Belfast for the Queen’s University Women Graduates and their quests (privately paid). Good turnout also from other networks and a lovely visit thanks to Margaret Donaghey, Honor Baird and national President irFUW Marion Gibson. Great opportunity to emphasize the need for more women in the Police of Northern Ireland.

End of May 2015 Together with BFWG organized UWE Board a second Meet and Greet.

Lively event with over 60 women. Large Italian Representation because of follow up project Quality education in Europe in Italy and Cultural Heritage Prize.

Presented adapted version of UWE action plan after input at Meet and Greet in Amsterdam May 2014 and UWE workshops in Bucharest. Follow up in workshops in Utrecht.

Participated in the online consultation on gender equality strategy in the EU: equality issues, violence against women, and/or social issues; equality bodies; and other organisations or individuals to provide direct input equality between women and men in the EU.

Lots of work has been done on connecting with members and themes working on the action plan like becoming a legal person to make financial matters better organised.

Next: more reciprocity by putting forward names for coordinators on themes by NFA’s and active involvement from CERs.

Visiting NFA’s in Europe which are non-members As a President more connecting with other NGO’s

seeking opportunities to work together on projects of the actionplan.
