Dear Members, I have so much to report to you this month and only a limited amount of space in the newsletter, so I will be sending out a more comprehensive Club overview in The General Managers Fall Update under separate cover shortly. Be on the lookout for that more in depth correspondence via e-mail in the near future. I would like to start this month’s newsletter article by mentioning a
few of your management staff for recent awards and recognition that they have received.
Your Club Financial Controller, Ron Robinson has been elected as the HFTP Board President for SWFL’s Manasota Chapter. HFTP stands for Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals which focus on best practices and keeping up with industry trends from a hospitality and Club specific perspective. Being financially and technology based, their focus includes but is not limited to cyber security, data security, social media, fiscal responsibility and comprehensive competitive set analysis with other local and regional Clubs. Ron will be representing Heron Creek and SWFL’s Manasota Chapter at their annual conference in Seattle Washington later in the week. Ron will be receiving the Chapter of the Year Award which is a national recognition.
Executive Chef Butch Thigpen has been recognized by Big Brothers & Big Sisters Suncoast for the third year in a row as Top Celebrity Chef, People’s Choice Award. Mike Smith, Director of Tennis and Fitness was flown out to the US Open in New York City over the summer to receive the award of USPTA Tennis Professional of the Year, Sarasota Chapter.
It is a true pleasure and a humbling experience to lead and serve this award winning group of employees that we have at Heron Creek. The team is focused on our collective goal of continuing to strive towards a constant state of improvement.
I would also like to take a moment to recognize a very special member, Mr. Charles “Chuck” Gra-bus, as the Club’s 1st Dues Free Platinum Life Member. As you know the Club offers a Platinum dues reduction for Platinum Members over 76 years of age and in good standing. Building on that initial foundation we launched a new loyalty and reten-tion program over a year ago that recognizes any Platinum Members over 84 years of age with an additional dues reduc-
tion. At 90 years of age, any Platinum Member in good standing for a minimum of 12 months be-comes a Complimentary Dues Free Platinum Member for Life. As the son of an avid golfer myself who shot his age through 86 and has been a Club Member for over 30 years at Arthur Hills Palmetto Pine Country Club in Cape Coral, there is no doubt in my mind it was the Club and the friendships he had developed at his Club that has given him his longevity into his 90’s. Our vision here is the same. Please contact me directly if there is anything the Club, my staff or I can do to make your experience and your use of the Club more enjoyable. [email protected]
.

Member News
by Richelle Membership Director
Dear Members,
This month I
have the pleasure
of honoring our
1st Dues Free Platinum Life
Member. Mr. Charles “Chuck”
Grabus spent his first 85 years in
Long Island, NY and the last 7
years in Montgomery, NY. He re-
tired from NY Telephone and de-
cided to take up golf at age 57,
never taking a single golf lesson.
He credits his longevity to a
Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch
daily.
Richelle takes notes on best
practices from the King himself,
Arnold Palmer, on her last competitive
club visit to Bay Hill in Orlando.

Welcome back to all who spent their summers away from Heron Creek. Another busy season of golf is beginning. Every Tuesday morning is Nifty Niners golf time. Membership is open to all ladies who are Platinum members of HCGCC. If you would like to join the Nifty Niners, applications are on the Niners bulletin board in the ladies locker room.
Remember that 2015-2016 dues checks for $50.00 made payable to HCNN should now be turned in at the pro shop.
Always sign up on Chelsea by 5:00 pm on the previous Friday before the day of play.
Opening day is Nov. 3 with our luncheon theme Birds, Butterflies, and Blossoms. So get your themed hat deco-rated and wear it to this fun luncheon.
The annual rules breakfast with the HCLGA will be on Nov. 11. Sign up in the ladies locker room and plan on meeting at 8:15 am for rules review followed by a continental breakfast.
Some future dates to remember are:
Dec. 3 Mars vs. Venus golf event open to members of MGA, LGA, and Nifty Niners. Sign up ends Nov. 29.
Dec. 7 Nifty Niners Golf Invitational which will be a step aside scramble.
Always get all the Nifty Niners information on the HCLGA website by clicking on Links— Nifty Niners.
Hope to see you on the course!
The 2015-2016 season will get into full swing quickly with several events the first month.
-Opening Day is November 5 and will include a luncheon meeting to welcome everyone back and preview
the plans for the season. Plan to meet on the hill by the chipping green for our annual picture at 7:45 a.m.
-The Solheim Cup Tournament November 19, features 27 holes followed by a reception to relax and review the
day’s play.
-December 3 is a new event pitting the men against the women in the “Venus vs. Mars” Challenge. This is a
match play co-hosted by the HCLGA and the Men’s Golf Association and will include a lunch and trophy presen-
tation.
Think you know all the rules of golf? Make sure by attending the annual HCLGA Rules Breakfast on Novem-
ber 18. All members should be up to date on the rules as they apply to our course, and this informative session
can reveal how the rules can be to your advantage. Sign up in the locker room, breakfast is included!
These and all the events for the upcoming season are on the web site. You can sign up for games on the Bailey
system and view results of each game on the web site.
The Suncoast team is hoping to again bring home the winning plaque. The first
event is October 30 at The Meadows. November’s event is hosted by Heron
Creek on the 13th. The full schedule and results are on the web site. Sign-up
sheets are posted in the locker room, and Captain Karen Brown encourages
HCLGA members, with an index of 28 or less, to sign up and participate in these
“Stableford” games.
The HCLGA ladies want to thank Bobby Hummel for his twelve years of helping
with golf games, last minute cancellations and additions, score card changes, lost
items, rules questions, weather grumbles, lessons, computer issues, clothing pur-
chases and returns, and all the other necessary things that keep us happy. He was
always cheerful and pleasant (husbands take heed!) Bobby will be missed, but we
know he will be successful in his new endeavors and we wish him well.
The course is in great shape so let’s help keep it that way by fixing divots and ball
marks while we’re out there!

HERON CREEK SINGLES
RED HOT HERONS
The Heron Creek Singles Group participates in all of the scheduled Club activities -
including a special celebration of members’ birthdays on the Club’s second sched-
uled Birthday Blast each month.
In addition to the Club activities and events, we organize house parties for major
Holidays and pursue a wide variety of outside activities such as plays; concerts; vari-
ous day trips by land and sea to nearby attractions – and - we try at least one new
local restaurant each month.
We have another new member! Jennifer Dirrigl has joined the HC Singles group. We
welcome her as she joins in our many activities!
Recent activities included a trip to Visani’s Dinner / Theater; the Boca Royale Golf &
CC and Heron Creek’s Birthday Blast. The Singles Group had five member and two
guest birthdays to celebrate in October.
Future activities include a trip to Carmelo’s in Punta Gorda and a theater trip to see
“Kitchen Witches” at the Langdon Playhouse in Port Charlotte.
If you’re single and want to meet new friends and participate in some great activities, contact the Heron Creek Singles Group!
Call in your reservation and tell them you want to be seated with the HC Singles Group.
For more information, call Janice Dirmeitis at 240-6425.
Members of the Red Hot Herons had an opportunity to participate in two excursions during October. The first was a trip to ECHO in Fort Myers, where those in attendance gained first hand knowledge on the fight to combat world hunger. ECHO is a working experimental farm that acts as a clearinghouse for best practices from around the world in economically providing food to those who are starving. It was a fascinating and informative afternoon. Our second outing was an evening at Visani Comedy Club in Port Charlotte for members and spouses. It was a great evening of wining, dining, and lots of laughter.
We have a trip scheduled for December 2nd to see West Side Story at the Asolo Theater. Cost for this event, which includes lunch, is $77.10. Please contact Evelyn Prusak for tickets.
Members are reminded that at our November meeting we are collecting new or gently used books for children up to age five. These will be donated to Children First.
Our Next meeting will be in the MDR on November 2nd at 10:00 am.
