PERTH recorded the highest growth inresidential sales of all Australian capitalcities in the 12 months to June 30.

Figures released by property expertRPdata show house sales jumped byalmost 60 per cent in Perth, comparedwith an average 32 per cent acrossAustralia.

RPdata research director Tim Lawlesssaid the number of existing homes soldin Australia in the June quarter rosefrom 98,500 in 2008 to 130,000 in the

corresponding period this year.“The future is looking brighter for

Perth, with the resources sector onceagain picking up and a modest degree ofcapital growth returning to the market,’’Mr Lawless said.

REIWA president Rob Druitt saidPerth now had a much better balancebetween supply and demand, with about12,800 properties for sale at the end ofJune, down from 15,000 in March.

“The number of selling days has

dropped from 76 in March to 70 inJune,” Mr Druitt said.

“Units and apartments also sawstrong growth in the quarter, lifting byalmost 9 per cent from a median of$349,000 to $380,000.”

Sydney recorded the second highestimprovement in home sale volumes overthe past year, up by 38 per cent.

Brisbane volumes were up 35 percent and Melbourne sales were up 30per cent. ■
