Organization: Cooperation: Sponsored by:

since

A sound collaboration for the protection of our cultural heritage

Our endeavor for promoting historical and cultural heritage started as a civil initiative in 1975 and transformed into the ÇEKÜL Foundation twenty years ago to continue to spread the vision. The movement gathered an additional speed in 2000 with the establishment of the Union of Historic Towns. While witnessing in recent years, a rapid rise in public awareness which bolsters our enthusiasm, and lays at the same time a heavy responsibility on our shoulders. We have the compelling duty of creating circumstances and opportunities to encourage the development of a qualified and well equipped community to insure the protection and endurance of a rich heritage, passed on to us from an array of civilizations that have existed in Anatolia through the centuries.

Yapex Fairs have for many years achieved exemplary results and provided inspiring opportunities to the construction industry, by bringing together leading institutions and individuals from a variety of related fields. In 2007, “restoration and renovation” for the first time was included in the the Renovation Fair organized in Istanbul by YAPEX Fairs. Members of the Union of Historic Towns had

participated and contributed to that fair, with their best practices and presentations. This year, Yapex Renovation Fair will be organized under the theme of "Restoration, Renovation and Cultural Heritage Protection" in Antalya between 18 - 21 October 2012 and will offer a more comprehensive program with the cooperation of ÇEKÜL and the support of the Union of Historic Towns.

The event, which is embraced by the ÇEKÜL Foundation, as the pioneer of heritage protection in Turkey, and the Union of Historic Towns, will be the first to be realized with such a wide coverage of the area of heritage, and should be welcomed as a significant development. The event will be a success in bringing traditional skills and modern technologies together and integrating them, while promoting a common language and guidelines for restoration and renovation, and it will be a priceless experience for our cultural and historical heritage.

Cultural Heritage and Preservation

Sector

The contribution of culture to local and

regional development is inarguably

accepted by various segments

nowadays. Cities strive to differentiate

themselves within an environment of

tough economic competition caused by

globalisation. In this regard, they try to

develop policies stemming from their

cultural elements. Culture is now one of

the basic tools of socio-economic

development.

Many cities that follow the success

stories in this area perform interventions

based upon designs revealing their

cultural identities, and undertake

cultural infrastructure activities along

culture based strategies...

The definition of ‘sector’ involving

production and service groups which

have common and combinable

characteristics and may be examined

after being isolated from other activities

allows us to define all restoration and

renovation activities targeting

archaeological, architectural and

industrial heritage and similar cultural

entities as "cultural heritage protection

sector".
