EXT. SULLIVAN HOME, SILENT HILL – EVENING

July 1974, the camera shows the exterior of the Sullivans’ quaint bungalow. The mailbox at the street’s curb reads: “Sullivan.” The distant sound of thunder rumbles as a storm approaches town.

INT. SULLIVAN HOME, WALTER’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Young WALTER SULLIVAN tosses and turns in his sleep while having a nightmare. The crack of lightning striking awakens him from his restless dreams. Distraught, Walter gets out of bed and goes out into the hallway. He walks to the end of the hall. Walter opens the door to his mother’s bedroom only to find his mother and her “boyfriend of the month” engaging in sex.

MIRIAM (WALTER’S MOTHER)Walter…get out! What the hell’s the matter with you…even your sisters know enough to knock.

Walter, stunned, backs his way out of the bedroom and closes the door. Walter lies in bed traumatized by his nightmare and further by seeing his mother having sex. He stares blankly at the ceiling. An hour passes. Walter’s bedroom door opens. Standing in the shadowed doorframe is his mother’s BOYFRIEND. In a fast single stride, he reaches Walter’s bed and smacks him across the face with the back of his hand. Before Walter can cry out, Miriam’s boyfriend follows up by clamping his hand down over Walter’s mouth.

BOYFRIENDYou listen to me, boy, if you ever come in your mama’s room when the door is closed – so help me God, I’ll give you a beatin’ to remember me by – you got that, boy?

With his hand still covering Walter’s mouth, Walter nods as his eyes well up with tears.

INT. WALTER’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

A few nights later, Walter lies awake unable to sleep. To make matters worse, he has to endure the squallering of an alley cat through his open window. Walter gets out of bed.

EXT. SULLIVAN’S BACKYARD – NIGHT

Walter, now dressed, exits the back door of the house into the privacy-fenced backyard. He crosses the backyard, goes through the gates and into the alley. Walter picks up a large rock and continues heading toward the obnoxious moaning.

Walter has the cat in his sights when he hears the sound of metal being dragged over concrete. Walter looks through a knothole in a picket fence.

Through the fence, he sees a figure with a featureless face – its head a three-dimensional triangle (the RED PYRAMID). It wears a bloodied butcher’s smock, and the grinding of metal that drew Walter’s attention is its sword, which is longer than Walter is tall.

Walter is mesmerized by this creature, thing, whatever it is. Walter sits staring at the creature as if he were trying to find the window to its soul…if it had a soul.

Walter is suddenly snapped out of his trance when he hears the cat wailing like a banshee once again. Walter turns away from the fence, infuriated by the interruption and heads for the cat.

Walter drops the rock on the ground and grabs the cat by the throat, lifting it up above his head. The only sounds the cat makes now are slight gasps for air. Walter then hurls the cat back-handed against a garage door.

The cat, barely alive, lays slumped at the bottom of the garage door. Walter finds a galvanized pipe discarded among the trash and delivers a death blow, skewering the feline.

EXT. SULLIVAN HOME, DRIVEWAY – MORNING

July 4th – Miriam Sullivan packs her car with a cooler and some folding lawn chairs. She re-enters the house.

CUT TO:

INT. SULLIVAN HOME

Miriam enters the house. The kids are scattered in all directions throughout the household.

MIRIAMC’mon, kids…we’re leaving for the fair!

Walter and his SISTERS converge from different entrances into the kitchen. Walter’s sisters are dressed in “cutesy” summer dresses with matching brimmed hats.

MIRIAMWalter, come here.

Miriam squeezes some sun screen out of a bottle and onto her fingertip.

MIRIAM (addressing Walter)

Hold still!

Miriam applies the sun screen to Walter’s nose

INT. SULLIVAN CAR – MORNING

Walter gets into the backseat of the family station wagon. One of his sisters gets in from the same door as Walter, causing him to slide over, just as his other sister opens the opposite door and gets in. A victim of unintended consequences, Walter is now trapped between his two sisters.

For the duration of the trip, Walter is forced to endure the squabbling and “tit for tat” exchanges between his female siblings. Walter tries to take it in stride as he sits there with a vacant stare on his face.

The Sullivan family arrives in the parking lot of Rosewater Park, and not a moment too soon for young Walter. The Sullivan children unboard the station wagon. The family walks under a banner that reads “Rosewater Fair – July 2nd-7th” and into the temporary fairgrounds.

Upon entering the park, Walter notices a blonde-haired little girl (LAURA LOCANE) accompanied by her MOTHER. Laura smiles at Walter. Caught off guard, Walter reluctantly smiles back.

Page 6: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

6

In a moment of sassiness, Laura sticks out her tongue at him. Walter doesn’t know what to think at this point, other than women are driving him crazy.

EXT. FAIRGROUNDS AT ROSEWATER PARK – DAY

Suffering from “estrogen emasculation,” Walter grows tired of tagging along with his mother and sisters and decides to explore the fairgrounds solo. Walter strolls aimlessly through the fair, almost as if in a hypnotic trance from the carnival-like atmosphere.

He decides to play a game of ring toss. Laura, now separated from her mother, watches Walter play. Walter wins a prize. With no choice in the prize he wins, Walter accepts a pink stuffed rabbit from the CARNY.

While staring at the “sissy pink” stuffed animal, Walter turns to leave the booth and almost runs smack into Laura. Walter, once again, is caught off guard.

LAURAWhat’d you win?

WALTEROh…uh, just a stuffed rabbit.

LAURACan I see it?

Walter hands Laura the stuffed rabbit as they walk down the Midway.

LAURAMy name’s Laura. What’s yours?

WALTERWalter.

LAURAI like your rabbit, Walter…it’s cute.

WALTERNot as cute as the nest of baby rabbits down by the marsh. Do you wanna see ‘em?

LAURAOhhhh. Yeah, let’s go.

Page 7: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

7

Walter and Laura exit the fair’s Midway and leave the park.

EXT. “BLOOD SWAMP” – DAY

Walter and Laura approach the bank of the swamp. Walter crouches down and removes a tuft of dead grass, exposing a nest of baby rabbits. Still cradling the stuffed rabbit in one arm, Laura crouches down to look at the baby bunnies.

Walter stands back up and wanders over to the water’s edge. He stares out over the swamp. In some delusional hallucination, Walter watches the Red Pyramid, who stands knee-deep in the swamp, wash the blood off his sword.

Walter turns and looks at the trunk of a dead, immature tree, about four feet high and two inches in diameter. Walter grabs the tree and snaps it off at ground level. He walks back over to Laura at the rabbit’s nest.

Laura looks up at him, and then rises to her feet. Walter thrusts the tree trunk up at an angle under Laura’s solar plexus, piercing her aorta on its way out of her back. Laura stands frozen with the barren look of shock on her face.

Blood pools around the improvised spear and starts soaking into her shirt. Blood begins to trickle out of her mouth and down her chin. Walter yanks the spear backwards, removing it from Laura’s chest. Laura drops the stuffed rabbit and falls over into the swamp.

The swamp water turns red as Laura’s body slowly sinks out of sight. Walter looks back over at the Red Pyramid. The Red Pyramid begins wading deeper into the swamp until he’s completely submerged. Walter turns and walks back toward the fairgrounds.

EXT. SHORE OF TOLUCA LAKE, JULY 4th – NIGHT

Walter sits with his mother and sisters on the beach of Toluca Lake. From their folding chairs, they watch a dazzling display of fireworks over the lake.

INT. WALTER’S BEDROOM, NOV. 1974 – NIGHT

Walter is awakened by the faint sound of fire engines in the background. He looks out his window to see flames consuming the Grand Hotel and the neighboring buildings. Walter gets up and goes out the back door.

Page 8: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

8

He crosses the backyard and goes through the gate. Walter walks across the alley to the garage. He flips open the garage door. The three-quarter moon gives off enough light for Walter to find what he’s looking for. Walter grabs a can of gasoline and heads back to the house.

He takes the gas can into his room and sets it down. He opens his window and kicks out the screen. Walter steps through the window and outside. He douses the exterior of the house under the windows with gasoline. Walter steps back through his bedroom window.

Back inside the house, he douses his bedroom with gasoline on his was into the hallway. Walter splashes gas all over the bedroom doors of his mother and sisters. He pours a trail of gas as he backs his way out of the hallway.

Walter then drenches the front door with gas, leaving another trail as he heads toward the back door. Walter stops at the kitchen, where he retrieves a box of wooden matches from a drawer. He continues out the backdoor and onto the porch.

Walter strikes a match on the concrete and throws it through the threshold of the back door. A flame runs through the house and hallways, engulfing the bedroom doors.

The fire tears through Walter’s bedroom and out the window, igniting the exterior of the house around the bedroom windows. Walter walks around to the front of the house and watches it burn in the inferno…along with his mother and sisters.

With an expressionless face, Walter watches his home consumed by flames, as the Grand Hotel and the buildings around it burn in the background behind him.

EXT. REST STOP, PLEASANT RIVER – NIGHT – May 2004

Walter Sullivan parks his car around the back of the rest stop. The shadows hide his car from the parking lot’s lights. Walter enters one of the men’s restrooms. He pushes the garbage can over in front of the door, blocking entry.

Walter enters the first stall and sets a piece of paper on the toilet tank. He exits the stall and walks over to the window. Walter takes off his jacket and holds it up to the window then breaks the glass out with his fist.

Page 9: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

9

He returns to the bathroom door and removes the garbage can blocking it. Walter goes back into the first stall and closes the door. Walter pulls out a roll of electrical tape and tears off a piece, placing it on top of the paper. The piece of paper reads “Out of service.” He sits and waits.

Walter watches through the crack of the stall door as SEVERAL MEN enter and exit the restroom. A young boy (RONNIE BOOTH) enters the restroom and goes into a stall. Walter springs into action. He comes out of the stall and opens the restroom door, hanging the “out of order” sign on it.

Walter pushes the garbage can back in front of the door. He takes a rag and a flask of chloroform from his pocket. Walter pours the chloroform onto the rag and waits for the young boy to come out of the stall.

CUT TO:

REST AREA PARKING LOT

The BOY’S MOTHER waits impatiently. She heads inside to check on her son. Ronnie’s mother sees the “out of order” sign on the one men’s restroom and opens the door to the other one and calls Ronnie’s name. She enters the restroom.

Finding it empty, she ventures into the “out of order” restroom. Ronnie’s mother finds the stall empty then notices the window broken out.

EXT. DESOLATE ROAD NEAR SILENT HILL – NIGHT

While on patrol, OFFICER CYBIL BENNETT notices a car on the side of the road in her motorcycle’s headlight. As she heads closer to the vehicle, she notices the driver (Walter Sullivan) changing a tire. Officer Bennett dismounts her motorcycle and approaches the motorist with flashlight in hand.

OFFICER BENNETTDo you need some enlightenment?

WALTER SULLIVANAh…yeah, thanks.

Officer Bennett shines her flashlight on the car’s wheel as Walter finishes changing the tire. Walter seems nervous and in a hurry to

Page 10: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

10

leave. When he throws the jack into the back seat instead of the trunk, Officer Bennett notices some kid’s toys on the backseat.

OFFICER BENNETTSir, do you have children?

Caught off guard, WALTER SULLIVAN hesitates with his answer.

WALTER SULLIVANNo.

OFFICER BENNETTThen why do you have toys in your back seat?

WALTER SULLIVANOh…That’s my niece’s.

As fast as he finished his sentence, Walter smacks Officer Bennett on her gun arm with the tire iron, and then brings her to the ground with a blow to the back of the legs. He then jumps into his car and speeds off. Officer Bennett staggers to her motorcycle and gives pursuit.

OFFICER BENNETTThis is Officer Bennett – I’m in pursuit of a suspected kidnapper – heading south on Vachss Road.

DISPATCH(on the radio)

This is base. Back-up en route.

CUT TO:

Walter sees the road ahead is blocked and makes a last-minute turn down a mine service drive, which turns out to be a dead end.

Walter stops the car at the cul de sac for the mine’s entrance. Knowing Officer Bennett will be there any minute; Walter grabs his Bowie knife, exits the vehicle and heads for his trunk.

Walter opens the trunk to reveal a young boy (Ronnie Booth) with his mouth duct-taped and limbs bound with electrical ties that bind his legs. Walter slashes the ties on his legs then lifts Ronnie out of the trunk.

Page 11: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

11

WALTER SULLIVANC’mon…get movin’!

Cramped up from being hog-tied in the trunk, Ronnie can barely stand up. Impatient, Walter holds Ronnie upright and drags him toward a maintenance garage surrounded by fuel drums and abandoned earth-moving equipment. He notices an open mine vent.

WALTER SULLIVANYou wait down there while I get a lap dance from that stripper in the cop outfit.

Walter drops Ronnie down the mine vent.

WALTER SULLIVAN (talking into the vent)

And if you’re good, we’ll get ice cream after.

CUT TO:

Officer Bennett pulling up behind Walter’s car. She draws her pistol and flashlight as she approaches the car. She then checks the trunk and the inside of the car, both empty.

Cautious, Officer Bennett heads toward the maintenance garage. She clears a corner of the garage when she hears a slight sound behind her. She quickly spins around to find Walter in the beam of her flashlight, holding a knife.

Officer Bennett instinctively fires two rounds, striking Walter in the chest, knocking him to the ground. She sweeps the knife away from Walter’s hand with her foot, and then kneels next to him.

OFFICER BENNETTWhere’s the child?!

Walter doesn’t respond and begins to drool blood.

OFFICER BENNETTWhat’d you do with the kid?!

Drowning in his own blood, Walter replies:

WALTER (coughing up blood)

Fuck you, bitch!

Page 12: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

12

Walter bleeds out and dies. Officer Bennett returns to Walter’s car. She notices two sets of footprints, starting from the trunk. Officer Bennett follows the footprints to the open mine vent. She shines her flashlight down the vent and sees the foot and leg of Ronnie Booth.

Officer Bennett looks around the heavy equipment. In the storage compartment of a front-end loader, she finds 40 feet of braided cable with a hook on one end. She throws it down on the ground near the front end of the loader.

Officer Bennett returns to her motorcycle and retrieves a medical kit and an emergency rappelling harness from her saddle boxes and hurries back to the vent.

Officer Bennett approaches the mine vent. She puts on her rappelling harness, and then hooks the cable around the hydraulic arm of the front-end loader. At the foot of the mine vent, Officer Bennett loops the cable through the figure eight on her harness and descends down the mine vent.

INT. ST. RENATA COLLEGE, LECTURE HALL – DAY

Present day. PROFESSOR ERNEST BALDWIN lectures his Regional History class.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN…The Moneton tribe inhabited what we now know as “Silent Hill” when early European explorers discovered it.

Fur trapper and landscape artist, Allen Smith, first encountered the Moneton people in 1671.

Smith wrote in his book “Lost Memories” that the Moneton called Silent Hill “The place of silent spirits.”

What the Moneton meant by spirits were not just of the dead, but those they believed inhabited the land, the trees, and the water around them.

To the Moneton, Silent Hill was a sacred place.

Page 13: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

13

Due to the recent territorial war with another tribe, the Moneton found their population severely depleted.

In order to defend their hallowed ground, they performed a ritual that had been forbidden for centuries.

Since Smith had a good rapport with the tribe, he was the only outsider to see this ritual performed.

In order to resurrect their dead, the Moneton prayed to a spirit they called the “God of Serpents and Reeds.”

In exchange for this resurrection, the god demanded their worship and complete obedience.

Smith never did see their dead rise again.

The next fur season, Smith arrived to find the Monetons’ settlement abandoned.

Years later, Smith met a neighboring tribal leader who told a tale of the Monetons’ disappearance.

The Monetons’ shaman told the tribe they were worshipping a false god. The god of “serpents and reeds” was really “Xuchilpaba”… the Moneton word for the Devil.

The shaman performed a holy cleansing ceremony, in which he was killed by Xuchilpaba.

Having traded furs with numerous tribes, Smith knew the word the tribal leader used for “killed” translated into the English phrase “skinned and gutted.”

As to what became of the rest of the Moneton, all the tribal leader said was, “They are now dwellers of the fog.”

Page 14: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

14

In 1692, the Salem witch trials began. Puritans began accusing atheists of heresy and burned them at the stake.

The Puritans were on the right track – they just had the wrong heathens.

A secret coven of witches was practicing black magic within their midst.

After seeing the “purification” of the atheists, the small coven decided to leave Salem.

They had heard the Indian legends of the “Place of Silent Spirits” and the mystical power that manifested within its land.

The witches departed Salem and headed for West Virginia, colonizing in what is now Silent Hill.

Professor Baldwin looks down at his lecture pedestal. He moves some notes aside and notices the front page of the Brahms Herald newspaper. He sees the photo of SHARON DaSILVA and the headline: “Still missing in Silent Hill.”

Professor Baldwin seems deeply distracted by the photo of Sharon and dismisses the class.

PROFESSOR BALDWINThat’ll complete today’s lesson. Read Chapters 13 and 14 in “The Establishment of West Virginia” text. That will be all.

INT. BALDWIN MANSION – DAY

Professor Baldwin returns home. He passes through a large foyer, then twists and turns down several elaborate hallways. He then approaches a specific door and enters.

INT. PROFESSOR BALDWIN’S STUDY - DAY

Professor Baldwin enters his study. The study’s interior resembles a satanic shrine. With newspaper in hand, Professor Baldwin approaches

Page 15: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

15

a painting on the wall. He looks at the newspaper photo of Sharon. He then examines the oil painting portrait on the wall.

The young lady in the painting is dressed in mid-1800s clothing and is an “identical twin” to Sharon DaSilva. The brass title plate on the wooden frame reads: “Antoinette DeGault – 1861-1872.”

PROFESSOR BALDWINMerciful Mother of God!

Professor Baldwin turns and looks at an old leather-bound book that sits on a pedestal. The title on the cover is in Old English type style and reads: “Crimson Ceremony.”

INT. Heidelberg Gallery – Detroit – Day

Professor Baldwin has a seat at the art auction. He thumbs through the auction catalog. He finally finds the page he was searching for. A picture of a medieval black chalice is circled in red pen. The caption below it reads: “O567 – Obsidian Goblet - $250/350.”

After a few items are auctioned off, item number 567 hits the auction block. The AUCTIONEER starts the bid at $250.00. Professor Baldwin raises his bidding paddle.

AUCTIONEERI’ve got 250. 300, do I have 300?

A PERSON sitting behind Professor Baldwin ups the bid.

AUCTIONEER300 in the back. 350, do I have 350?

Professor Baldwin doesn’t hesitate, and nods.

AUCTIONEER350. Do I have 450, 450?

The auctioneer looks to the back.

AUCTIONEER450. 600? Do I have 600?

Professor Baldwin nods again.

AUCTIONEERI’ve got 600, can I get 800?

Page 16: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

16

The bidder behind Professor Baldwin ups the bid.

AUCTIONEERGot 800 in the back. 1,000, can I get 1,000?

Professor Baldwin, displeased, nods.

AUCTIONEER1,000 in front. 1,300 in the back?

Professor Baldwin follows the auctioneer’s gaze and turns to look behind him. He sees that it’s psychic CLAUDIA WOLF bidding against him. He now knows he’s in for a bidding war…and so does the auctioneer. Claudia hedges the bid.

Cut to:

AUCTION – END OF BID

AUCTIONEER9,700 in the back. Do I see 10,000 in front?

Professor Baldwin nods.

AUCTIONEER10,500 in the back?

No response from Claudia.

AUCTIONEER10,300 in the back? 10,200, 10,200? 10,000 going, 10,000 going…sold!

The auctioneer hammers down his gavel. Professor Baldwin quickly gets out of his seat and intercepts Claudia before she can leave the gallery.

PROFESSOR BALDWINClaudia, what a pleasant surprise!

CLAUDIACongratulations on obtaining the Obsidian Grail. It was quite the auction.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN

Page 17: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

17

Yes…it turned out to be a nice round number.

CLAUDIAI don’t suppose you’re going to donate it to a local museum since it was stolen from Silent Hill’s Historical Society before it ended up in private hands.

PROFESSOR BALDWINI don’t think so. We wouldn’t want that to happen again, now, would we?

CLAUDIAThat all depends. (Pause) You plan to use it, don’t you?

Professor Baldwin deflects her question.

PROFESSOR BALDWINWell, since you brought up ritual artifacts, would you care to part with your Latin version of the “Crimson Ceremony?”

CLAUDIAOver my dead body.

PROFESSOR BALDWINOh, Claudia, surely you jest. If that were the case, I would leave the money to your estate and perform the ceremony on you.

Claudia doesn’t look amused.

PROFESSOR BALDWINI guess I can take that as a “no.” Well, if you’ll excuse me, I have to have the bank wire over six thousand dollars by the end of business today.

EXT. ROSEWATER CEMETERY – NIGHT

By the dim light of lanterns, TWO MEN unearth a grave isolated from the general plots. After digging awhile, they expose the coffin’s lid. One of the men climbs out of the grave and throws down a crowbar to the other. The man in the grave takes the crowbar and pries open the casket’s lid. The man uptop tosses an empty body bag down into the grave. He then drops down into the grave to help bag the body.

Page 18: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

18

The body now bagged, the two men lift it out of the grave and onto the ground. Both men climb out of the grave.

GRAVE ROBBER 1It’s almost sunup. We don’t have time to backfill it.

The two men lift the body bag up and carry it off. As they do so, the camera focuses in on the headstone. It reads: “Walter Sullivan.”

EXT. BALDWIN MANSION – NIGHT

A cargo van pulls up to the driveway gate. The electric motor slowly opens the gate and the van drives through. The van pulls up the driveway to the carriage house. The garage door opens and the van pulls in. The garage door closes behind it.

The two grave robbers exit the van and walk around to the rear doors. They open the doors and remove the body bag. They carry the body bag over to an oblong table as Professor Baldwin looks on. The two men set the body bag on top of the table.

One of the grave robbers returns to the cab of the van. Professor Baldwin hands the remaining man a small manila envelope stuffed with cash. The man fans through the large bills with his thumb, and then tucks the envelope into his inside pocket.

GRAVE ROBBER 1I have to say I’ve trafficked in a lot of stolen goods through the years…but nothin’ like this. If you call me again, make sure it’s for electronics or power tools. Hell, even a car!

(pause)Can’t say it’s been a pleasure doing business with you.

The grave robber returns to the van and pulls out of the carriage house.

EXT. ROSEWATER CEMETERY – MORNING

DETECTIVE THOMAS GUCCI walks over to TWO UNIFORMED OFFICERS who are standing next to Walter Sullivan’s unearthed grave. Detective Gucci looks down into the grave to see an open and empty coffin.

Page 19: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

19

DETECTIVE GUCCIWhat do we know so far?

OFFICER 1I pulled over Eddie Dombrowski and his punk-ass crew this morning coming out of Silent Hill. They were up there skipping school.

They reeked of weed, so I yanked them all out of the car. Right as I get ready to search the car, Eddie’s fat ass informs me that they saw an unearthed grave and empty coffin up in Rosewater Cemetery.

I cut ‘em loose and headed up here to check it out.

DETECTIVE GUCCIDo you think that turd Dombrowski and his dip-shit buddies may have done it?

OFFICER 1No, too much work. When I questioned them I noticed their pupils were all dilated…they were pretty smoked up.

I think they just came up here to get high and stumbled across it. There was no shovel in the car or trunk. Besides, I checked their hands…no blisters or calluses.

DETECTIVE GUCCIOn the bright side, it’s Walter Sullivan and not somebody’s loved one. Let’s just hope his body doesn’t turn up being publicly displayed. That would really open up old wounds.

Have the casket and headstone dusted for prints. Maybe we’ll get lucky. Get me a copy of your report and keep me apprised of any new leads.

OFFICER 1Yes, sir.

DETECTIVE GUCCIRemember when I told you about Officer Bennett rescuing that boy from that mine vent up in Silent Hill?

DETECTIVE GUCCIIt started out with a young boy being kidnapped from a rest stop in Pleasant River.

Officer Bennett happened to be on patrol that evening when she came across a motorist changing a flat tire…

That same motorist also happened to have the abducted boy in his trunk. The kidnapper assaulted Officer Bennett and high-tailed it up to the old Wiltse coal mine, where he dropped the kid down a mine vent.

He was then shot and killed by Officer Bennett while trying to ambush her.

Instead of waiting for backup, Cybil broke the Golden Rule of Rescue…”Don’t become a second victim.”

Page 24: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

24

When backup arrived, they found a dead suspect, but Officer Bennett and the abductee were missing from the scene.

Patrol figured there was another kidnapper in a second vehicle. We set up road blocks, immediately closing down the Interstate.

Unfortunately, we were searching cars, instead of the obvious. Officer Bennett’s radio wouldn’t transmit from down in the vent.

That’s why we didn’t find them until three days later, with a K-9 unit.

That sack of shit that Officer Bennett shot was one Walter Earl Sullivan. It turns out that when we took DNA from his body, we connected him to the rape and murder of 14 other children.

The little boy Officer Bennett rescued, Ronnie Booth, is Sullivan’s only known survivor…if you want to call him that. The poor kid’s still in a coma down at Brahms Mercy.

What I never could figure out about Sullivan was that most serial killers take a souvenir from their victims.

It helps them to relive the thrill of the kill in their minds. Well, when we searched Sullivan’s home, we found 14 jars, each with one of his victim’s names. All the jars were empty!

I guess I’ll never know since the freak took the mystery with him to the grave.

(Pause) Sorry, but to this day, whenever this case is brought up, that still bothers me.

Page 25: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

CHRISForgive me, but was this story intended to cheer me up?

DETECTIVE GUCCIWhat I’m trying to illustrate to you, Chris, is, Cybil is like family to me…and everyone else here. The morale around the station has hit a real low since she turned up missing.

CHRISI can’t just sit idly by while my wife and daughter are missing. If I do, I won’t be able to keep my mind from thinking the worst.

DETECTIVE GUCCIWhat can you do? There’s a statewide APB out, the Department’s contacted the FBI’s missing persons list, and we’ve managed to get week-long media coverage.

Hell, just between you and me, the Police Chief even pulled traffic units from the speed traps and dropped ticket quotas this month so more officers can assist in the search.

(Pause) Other than getting their faces on milk cartons and stapling “MISSING” posters on telephone poles, there’s not much else you can do.

EXT. TOLUCA ISLAND - MORNING

THREE RESEARCHERS from the Department of Environmental Quality arrive by boat on the shore of Toluca Island. They unboard the boat, taking their backpacks, which contain their equipment (cameras, sample jars, etc.). The researchers’ assignment is to study the environmental impact of the underground coal fires of Silent Hill on the island’s wildlife.

The three researchers observe the flora and fauna around Toluca Island’s abandoned prison. The team takes notes and photographs, along with samples of plant life, frog eggs and water.

INT. BALDWIN CARRIAGE HOUSE – MORNING

With the body bag removed, Walter Sullivan’s decayed and mummified corpse lays exposed on the table. The table has now become part of an altar. With scalpel in hand, Professor Baldwin finishes carving the mark of Samael (triangle in a circle) into the necrotized flesh of Walter’s torso.

He then places the Obsidian Grail on the table along with an uncapped vial of powdered white acacia beside it. Professor Baldwin begins to recite its text.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN“Speak. I am the Crimson One. The lies and the mist are not they, but I. You all know that I am the One. Yes, the One is I.”

CUT BACK TO:

TOLUCA ISLAND, OUTSIDE THE PRISON

The DEQ researchers watch as a dense fog overcomes the island. The sounds of rusted metal cell doors slamming shut are heard coming from inside the prison.

RESEARCHER 1Since when do abandoned prisons “lockdown”?

RESEARCHER 2Probably just kids screwing around. Let’s go take a look. We can check for lead contamination while we’re in there.

The researchers head toward the prison to investigate the noise.

CUT TO:

PROFESSOR BALDWIN AT THE ALTAR

Professor Baldwin continues his recital.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN“Believers, harken to me! Twenty score men and seven thousand beasts. Heed my words and speaketh them to all, that they shall ever be obeyed even under the light of the proud and merciless sun.”

Page 27: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

27

CUT BACK TO:

TOLUCA PRISON

The researchers have split up. Researcher 1 explores the prison alone, while the other two search together. In the beams of their flashlights, all the researchers seem to find are empty beer bottles and dilapidated walls spray-painted with graffiti.

CUT TO:

PROFESSOR BALDWIN AT THE ALTAR

PROFESSOR BALDWIN“Heretics, heed my warning. I shall bring down bitter vengeance upon thee and thou shalt suffer my eternal wrath.”

CUT BACK TO:

TOLUCA PRISON

The two researchers hear the metallic screech of a blade being dragged along the concrete floor (The Red Pyramid’s great knife).

RESEARCHER 3C’mon, it’s coming from that way.

The researchers head in the sound’s direction.

CUT TO:

PROFESSOR BALDWIN AT THE ALTAR

Professor Baldwin pours the powdered acacia into the Obsidian Grail.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN“Upon the hill where light descended, the beast intoned his song. With words of blood, drops of mist and the vessel of night, the grave became an open field.

The powdered acacia begins to steam and turns to liquid inside the Obsidian Grail. Holding the “Crimson Ceremony” in one hand, Professor Baldwin picks up the Obsidian Grail and pours the liquid acacia into

the carved mark of Samael in Walter Sullivan’s torso, while finishing his incantation.

PROFESSOR BALDWIN“May those who gaze upon this resurrection rejoice…or weep in fear at this reunion.”

EXT. MINING MAINTENANCE YARD – FOG REALM

Walter Sullivan regains consciousness on the ground in the very spot where he was shot and killed by Officer Bennett. He sits up and checks his chest for bullet wounds, but instead finds the mark of Samael carved into his chest.

Walter gets up off the ground and looks around for Officer Bennett, who is nowhere to be seen. He suspiciously walks back toward the main road.

EXT. ROAD INTO SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Walter Sullivan, with his back to the camera, pisses over the guard rail onto a signpost. After he “zips up,” he continues on. The camera pans up as Walter walks away to show he was pissing on the post of the “Welcome to Silent Hill” sign.

CUT BACK TO:

TOLUCA PRISON

With Walter now having entered Silent Hill in the fog realm, the researchers hear the faint sound of a warning siren coming from the mainland. The siren winds down, then stops. The researchers watch in astonishment as the paint begins to peel from the walls and the wrought iron bars corrode.

Speechless from the prison’s transformation, the two researchers hear the sound of grinding metal once again. The sound grows louder as the Red Pyramid turns a corner and heads toward them. Dragging his great knife, the Red Pyramid moves closer. The two researchers back up, then turn around right into an iron bar gate that blocks any chance of escape.

Cut to:

OPPOSITE CORRIDOR, TOLUCA PRISON

Page 29: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

29

Researcher 1 hears a commotion coming from behind him. He turns around and backtracks from where he came. Back from where he started, the researcher now heads in the direction of his co-workers. The noise takes him to an open door to a courtyard.

The researcher walks into the courtyard to find his fellow researchers shackled in rectangular iron frames that hang from a horizontal cable. The door to the courtyard slams shut behind him.

The researcher turns to see the Red Pyramid. The Red Pyramid grabs the remaining researcher and drags him over to a stockade. The Red Pyramid pushes the researcher down and locks his wrists into the stockade.

Underneath the researcher’s head is a large bucket. The Red Pyramid walks over and in between the two iron frames that hold the other researchers. He holds up a two-headed spear horizontally in one hand.

The Red Pyramid uses his free hand to pull a chain on a pulley system that causes the iron frames to move closer to him…and his spear. From the stockade all the first researcher can do is watch in horror as his co-workers move closer to the points of the spear.

Both researchers are now one more pull away from being pierced by the spear’s points. The Red Pyramid pulls the chain again and punctures the torsos of the two researchers. The Red Pyramid pulls the chain one last time, causing the spear to exit out the other sides of their torsos.

The Red Pyramid then picks up his great knife and walks over to the first researcher. With both hands, he heaves the large sword into the air and beheads the first researcher.

The Red Pyramid grabs the researcher’s head by the hair and removes it from the bucket. He then holds up the researcher’s head, showing it its decapitated body as it drains blood into the bucket.

INT. BRAHMS POLICE STATION – MORNING

Detective Gucci sits at his desk finishing a police report. A UNIFORMED OFFICER leans in his doorway.

OFFICERDetective, I’ve got the Department of Environmental Quality on the phone. They’ve got three biologists out on Toluca island that haven’t been heard from since

Page 30: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

30

yesterday. I told them it’s too early to file a missing persons report.

DETECTIVE GUCCITell them we’ll go out to the island and take a look. Get Officer Widmark in here. Tell ‘em he’s on marine patrol with me for the day.

The officer turns and leaves.

Detective Gucci picks up his phone and dials.

DETECTIVE GUCCIHey, Charlie, it’s Thomas Gucci. How many beers deep are ya? (Pause) Only six? It’s 10:30 in the morning – what, did you get up late?

Listen, myself and another officer need a shuttle out to Toluca Island. (Listening) No, I won’t bust you for operating a boat while impaired!

I’ll pay for gas and even throw in a case of cold ones. (Pause) See you down at the docks in a half hour.

EXT. TOLUCA LAKE – MORNING

CHARLIE pilots his boat toward Toluca Island while drinking a beer. OFFICER JONATHAN WIDMARK sits, enjoying the fresh air and the view. Detective Gucci stands, looking through a pair of small binoculars.

DETECTIVE GUCCII’ve got a small craft ashore about 250 yards starboard from our current heading.

Charlie veers the boat right as they approach the island. Charlie pulls up next to the researchers’ boat. Detective Gucci and Officer Widmark unboard. Charlie reaches into his cooler and retrieves another beer, then follows.

DETECTIVE GUCCIJonathan, check out the prison. Charlie, you’re with me. If you find anything out of

Page 31: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

31

place, hit me on the radio. Charlie and I are going to sweep the east point.

Detective Gucci and Charlie part company with Officer Widmark.

EXT. EASTPOINT OF TOLUCA ISLAND – MORNING

Detective Gucci and Charlie are fanned out, walking through a field, when Officer Widmark comes cross the radio.

OFFICER WIDMARKDetective Gucci…uh, sir, I…I need you to come to the prison courtyard.

DETECTIVE GUCCIAre you all right?

OFFICER WIDMARKYeah, I…um, just need you here as quick as possible.

DETECTIVE GUCCIHang tight. We’ll be right there.

Detective Gucci and Charlie turn around and head back toward the prison.

INT. TOLUCA PRISON COURTYARD – MORNING

Detective Gucci and Charlie wind down a series of corridors and walk into the prison’s courtyard. Officer Widmark is heard puking. (OC) Detective Gucci and Charlie lay eyes on some of the most horrific carnage in modern times.

The men gaze upon the two researchers who are racked and skewered together and the head of a third researcher impaled on an upright pike that overlooks his decapitated body.

Charlie reaches around to the small of his back and pulls out a 1911 pistol. A “click” is heard as he takes the safety off the weapon. Detective Gucci hears the sound and looks over to see Charlie’s pistol in hand.

CHARLIEThis brings back old memories of my tour in Cambodia.

Page 32: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

32

Charlie looks at Officer Widmark, who’s leaning on a wall, still purging.

CHARLIEGet it all up, kid.

Charlie takes a pull off his beer. Detective Gucci dials his cell phone.

DETECTIVE GUCCIDispatch, this is Detective Thomas Gucci. I need the County Sheriff and West Virginia State Police out here on Toluca island. I have a triple homicide at the prison.

INT. MOTEL, OUTSKIRTS OF SILENT HILL – DAY

Chris sits, held up in a small motel room. He keeps himself occupied by drafting architectural blueprints on a laptop computer. A police scanner sits on the nightstand.

The scanner catches a dispatch out to the sheriff’s marine unit to respond to a multiple homicide on Toluca island. Chris gets up and rushes out the door.

INT. TOLUCA PRISON COURTYARD - DAY

The prison courtyard is now swarming with county sheriff’s deputies and West Virginia State Police. A team of state forensic crime scene technicians scours the courtyard and researchers’ bodies.

Detective Gucci talks with a State Police detective in the background. After he finishes his conversation, Detective Gucci walks over to Charlie and Officer Widmark.

DETECTIVE GUCCIC’mon, let’s go. This is the state’s bastard child now.

Charlie hands his empty beer bottle to a sheriff’s deputy who’s standing there doing nothing.

CHARLIEHere, put this into evidence for me.

Charlie walks away.

Page 33: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

33

EXT. PUBLIC ACCESS BOAT LAUNCH – DAY

Charlie ferries Detective Gucci and Officer Widmark back to the mainland. Officer Widmark looks pale. As the boat approaches the shore, Detective Gucci sees Chris waiting on the dock.

DETECTIVE GUCCIOh, great! What the hell is he doing here?

The boat pulls up alongside the dock. Detective Gucci steps onto the dock as Chris approaches.

CHRISIs it my wife…our daughter, is it them?

Detective Gucci grabs Chris by the upper arm and walks him down the dock and away from Charlie and Officer Widmark.

CHRISIs it them!?!

DETECTIVE GUCCIIt’s not them! The three victims are male…they’ve all been identified.

Chris becomes a little weak in the knees, but is relieved.

CHRISCould these murders have something to do with their disappearance?

DETECTIVE GUCCIIt’s not likely. The victims were killed in place. Whoever killed them wanted their bodies to be found.

Detective Gucci turns to Officer Widmark, who’s walking up the dock.

DETECTIVE GUCCII need you to take a couple officers and start canvassing high school and college students, also local fishermen…anyone who might have had a reason to be on the island yesterday.

OFFICER WIDMARKYes, sir.

Page 34: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

34

Detective Gucci turns back to Chris.

DETECTIVE GUCCIC’mon Chris, let’s go get some coffee.

EXT. CLAUDIA WOLF’S HOME – DAY

ANGELA OROSCO arrives at psychic Claudia Wolf’s house. Angela rings the doorbell. As she waits, she examines the leaded glass window of the “Eye of Night” (Tarot card) in the front door. Claudia answers the door.

CLAUDIAAngela, come on in.

Angela enters the house.

CLAUDIAHow are things at the Baldwin mansion?

ANGELAYou know, once I finish cleaning, I start all over again. The cycle continues, evermore.

Claudia and Angela sit down at the dining room table. Claudia takes out her deck of Tarot cards.

ANGELADid you hear the latest? Do you remember Walter Sullivan, that child molester that killed all those kids a few years ago?

CLAUDIAYeah, the county made national news. Is that boy he abducted still in a coma?

ANGELAI think so. Anyway, I just heard somebody dug up his grave and stole his body.

Claudia looks at Angela as if she suspects more than just a grave robbery.

INT. COFFEE SHOP – DAY

Page 35: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

35

Detective Gucci and Chris have a conversation over a cup of coffee.

DETECTIVE GUCCIWe got a call from the Department of Environmental Quality this morning. Three of their biologists didn’t report to work today. They were out on Toluca Island conducting an environmental impact survey on the effects of the coal fires on the island’s wildlife.

When we went to check on them, we found their bodies. Without going into details, let’s just say grisly is an understatement.

Since the biologists were State employees, West Virginia State Police is taking over the investigation, which is fine by me.

CHRISI thought about what you said the last time we talked, and there is something else I can do. I wanted to let you know I’ve hired a search and rescue team. I’m meeting with them today where Rose’s jeep was found.

DETECTIVE GUCCII have to tell you, Chris, at this point, with the leads we have, along with everything else that’s going on, I’ll take any help I can get.

Chris stands up and drops a couple of dollars on the table.

CHRISDetective, thanks for your time.

DETECTIVE GUCCIChris, have the team check in with us from time to time. The terrain around here can be dangerous even for professionals.

Chris turns to leave.

DETECTIVE GUCCIOh, one more thing before you go. Keep me posted, will you?

Page 36: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

36

CHRISSure thing.

EXT. ALTERNATE FOG REALM

Rose drives, en route to the psychic’s home. She passes a road sign with an arrow that points to Toluca Lake. She makes a turn at the next street. Rose slowly pulls up next to a mailbox that reads, “7335 Springborn Lane” on the side. Rose pulls into the circular driveway behind two other cars.

ROSEGood. It looks like someone’s home.

INT. PSYCHIC CLAUDIA WOLF’S HOME – DAY

The camera pans around a low-lit living room showing shelves of books, skulls candles, religious icons, symbols and macabre gothic furniture. The décor resembles a serious occult bookstore.

The camera stops on a dining room table that looks like one you would sign your soul to Satan at. Illuminated by candlelight, two women sit across from each other at the table. Psychic Claudia Wolf gives a tarot card reading to her client, Angela.

CUT TO:

ALTERNATE FOG REALM

Rose and Sharon enter Claudia’s living room. They both stare at the bizarre décor of the home’s interior. Sharon picks up the skull of a small animal from the shelf and examines it. Rose notices lit candles around the room.

ROSEBurning candles…No one leaves the house with candles lit.

Rose approaches one of the two lit candles on the dining room table. She blows it out.

CUT BACK TO:

CLAUDIA’S LIVING ROOM – REALITY

Claudia and Angela watch as one of the candles flickers wildly.

Rose sees an ouija board on the dining room table. Rose takes the ouija board’s planchette and shoves it off the board and onto the floor.

CUT BACK TO:

CLAUDIA’S LIVING ROOM – REALITY

The two women now watch as the planchette on the ouija board slowly moves off the board about a half foot, coming to rest on the table.

CLAUDIASomeone’s trying to contact us. I’m going to need your help. Slide your chair over.

Claudia and Angela slide their chairs over to the ouija board.

CLAUDIAI need you to put your fingertips on the planchette. Whoever’s trying to contact us will guide us to the letters.

ROSESharon, come here. Mommy needs your help.

Sharon puts the skull back on the shelf, and walks over to the table. Rose sits down in front of the ouija board.

ROSESit across from Mommy, honey. Now, Sharon, we’re going to play a spelling game. I want you to put your fingers from both hands on the triangle. When Mommy says a letter, we move the circle in the triangle over that letter, OK?

SHARONUh-huh.

Rose calls out an “H”, then an “E”, then an “L”. The camera cuts back and forth between Rose and Sharon, and Claudia and Angela throughout the spelling of the message.

CUT BACK TO:

CLAUDIA’S LIVING ROOM – REALITY

Claudia grabs a pen and a pad of paper and writes down the message received through the ouija board.

The message reads: “HELP – ROSE – SILENT HILL”

SHARONAre we going now, Mommy?

ROSEWe’re going back to Silent Hill.

SHARONWhy?

ROSETo wait.

SHARONI don’t like that place.

EXT. CHRIS EN ROUTE TO SILENT HILL – DAY

CHRIS (on cell phone)…Listen, Greg, I don’t have time to rework the specs on that type of modification. If the work load’s too much for you, send the prints over to Tom’s firm.

They’re really good with load-bearing structural steel. I’ve got to go. I’ll be in touch over the next couple days.

Chris pulls up to the curve in the road where Rose’s Jeep was found. He pulls over on the shoulder behind three SUVs. Chris exits his car and approaches the four men who are leaning over the hood of one of the SUVS, reviewing a map of the area

CHRISHi. I’m Chris DaSilva.

DECKERTYes, I spoke with you on the phone. I’m Eric Deckert, the team’s leader. Let me introduce you to the rest of the team. That’s DANIEL SIMS…MARK HAVILAND…and ROLAND PRECHT.

Chris and the team members shake hands during the formalities. The team members then disperse. One surveys the landscape by the guardrail through a pair of binoculars, while the other two prep equipment in the back end of one of the SUVs.

DECKERTThis is the spot where your wife’s vehicle was found abandoned. Correct?

CHRISYes, that’s right.

DECKERTAnd these are photos of your wife and daughter?

CHRISThat’s them.

Page 40: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

40

Deckert shows Chris the map on the hood of the SUV.

DECKERTWhat we plan to do is execute a radial sweep search. So consider where we’re standing to be ground zero.

What we’re going to do is keep searching in a circle that gets larger the farther away we get from this point. We’re going to be paying special attention to potential “hot spots.”

CHRISHot spots?

DECKERTHot spots are places of hazard, like open or accessible mine shafts, ravines, rock crevasses… any place they could be trapped or say held up with a broken leg.

They tend to be hard-to-get-to areas that the police usually won’t cover during a general search.

CHRISAre you going to be working with law enforcement?

DECKERTWe’ve spoken with Brahms, Toluca Lake and South Vale Departments. They’ve been notified of our search. Brahms P.D. gave us a picture of their missing officer.

Also, we’ve set up a scanner locally with each department’s frequency programmed into it.

It’ll pick up and send police chatter on broadband back to our headquarters where it’ll be monitored.

(Pause) I’ll provide you with a daily status report and also contact you immediately with

Page 41: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

41

any breaking leads. Chris, if they’re here, we’ll find them.

Deckert rolls up the topographical map, exposing another one underneath. Chris looks at the newly exposed map.

DECKERTAny more questions?

CHRISJust one. What’s this?

DECKERTThat’s a thermal image of this place I downloaded from satellite. The heat bloom from the mine fires makes this town look like it was built over the top of hell.

EXT. WOODSIDE APARTMENTS – FOG REALM

Walter Sullivan walks up the sidewalk and into the lobby of the Woodside Apartment Building. Little does Walter know he’s being watched by a little blonde-haired girl (Laura Locane).

INT. HALLWAY, WOODSIDE APTS. – FOG REALMWalter tries the entry doors of numerous apartments. Finally, the door to apartment 208 is unlocked. Walter enters.

Cautiously, he approaches a dead man in an armchair in front of a blood-spattered television that has nothing but static(snow) for reception. Sick of listening to the “hiss” of the static, Walter turns the TV to OFF, but it doesn’t respond. He then yanks the plug from the wall socket.

The TV responds now as if someone turned on a DVD player. In black and white, Walter watches himself sitting in the chair watching TV. The shadows behind him begin to move in on him, shifting into a humanoid.

The shadow produces a knife (khurki) and slashes Walter’s throat from behind, spraying blood onto the television screen that blackens out the “show” of Walter’s death.

The TV now shuts off. Paranoid, Walter quickly turns and looks behind him to find an empty room. He then notices a bloody khurki knife and its sheath hanging on the wall. Walter takes it down and examines the

Page 42: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

42

blood stains on it. He then puts it in the sheath and tucks it into his waistband.

9. INT. ROSE’S JEEP – FOG REALM

Rose drives on the road into Silent Hill, when suddenly the electrical system on her Jeep shuts down. The Jeep comes to a rolling stop.

ROSEC’mon, sweetie, we’re going to walk the rest of the way.

Rose and Sharon (with her sketchbook in hand) exit the Jeep and head out on foot to Silent Hill. They walk up Nathan Avenue and enter downtown. They walk past the movie theatre. On the marquee is: “Now playing—The Exorcist”. After wandering downtown for a while, Rose sees the silhouette of a person on the edge of the haze. Rose cries out:

ROSEDAHLIA? Hey…hey, wait!

The shadowy figure turns and slips into an alley. Rose runs to the entrance to the alley. She looks down the alley to find the mysterious figure has disappeared into the haze. Rose returns to Sharon.

The camera rounds the corner at the opposite end of the alley to show Walter pressed up against the wall holding the khurki knife.

Walter(under his breath)

C’mon, cop bitch, second time’s a charm.

EXT. SILENT HILL MOTOR INN – FOG REALM

Rose and Sharon walk over to the motel.

INT. MOTEL OFFICE – FOG REALM

Rose goes behind the counter and randomly grabs the key to Room 3 and some candles. Rose notices some letters for the marquee under the motel’s sign and takes them. Rose and Sharon go to the motel room. Rose checks under the bed, and then the bathroom to make sure the coast is clear.

Page 43: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

43

ROSESharon, honey, I want you to keep the door locked. Do not open it for any reason. Mommy has a key. I’ll let myself in when I get back. OK?

SHARONOK.

Rose exits the motel room. Sharon, being a curious kid, opens the nightstand drawer. Instead of finding a Holy Bible, she finds a leather-bound book written in Aramaic. Because the book is written in Aramaic, Sharon just looks at the illustrations of its gruesome rituals.

Note: This is the original “Crimson Ceremony” that was last seen centuries ago.

CUT TO:

ROSE PLACING THE LAST LETTERS ON THE MOTEL’S MARQUEE.

As Rose walks back to the motel room, the camera pans out to show the marquee that now reads: “Sharon/Rose here Rm #3”

EXT. BRAHMS P.D. PARKING LOT – EVENING

Detective Gucci walks to his car. Psychic Claudia Wolf intercepts him before he gets into his car.

CLAUDIAThe missing woman in Silent Hill…Rose, she contacted me.

DETECTIVE GUCCIAh…please tell me on the phone.

CLAUDIANo, through channeling.

DETECTIVE GUCCIOK, I’ll bite, what’d she say?

CLAUDIAThe message was, “Help, Rose, Silent Hill.”

Page 44: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

44

DETECTIVE GUCCIHold on, I’m getting a vision…it’s yesterday’s news. Now, please, spare me the “voodoo 101” and leave the mystery-solving to us.

So go home, mix the chicken blood in the corn, then feel free to stick needles in a doll of my likeness.

Detective Gucci gets into his car.

DETECTIVE GUCCIGood night, Claudia

INT. ST. RENATA COLLEGE – MORNING

The last of the straggling students take a seat in their Regional History class. Professor Baldwin begins the day’s lesson.

PROFESSOR BALDWINBecause of the recent tragic events in the area, I’m changing today’s lecture. I spent last night tailoring today’s lesson plan to coincide with the current affairs.

Due to the brutality of the crimes, I want to start by asking, does anyone here have friends or family members killed on Toluca Island yesterday? If you have, you may now be excused without it affecting your grade.

None of the students leaves the lecture hall.

PROFESSOR BALDWINThe same goes for those of you having a sensitive intestinal fortitude.

A couple students load up their backpacks and head out the double doors.

PROFESSOR BALDWINAnyone else? Very well then. (pause) Who here has been to a bonfire on Toluca Island?

A number of students raise their hands.

Page 45: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

45

PROFESSOR BALDWINIt’s probably safe to say that those of you who have, have seen, or have even taken an unofficial tour of Toluca Prison.

Some students look at each other and smile.

PROFESSOR BALDWINToluca Prison started out as a prison camp. At the start of the Civil War, the prison was quickly constructed.

Besides housing prisoners of war, it was America’s first prison to incarcerate a black magic practitioner.

Prisoner Number C-221, also known as Antoine DeGault, barely escaped the guillotine in France. He was accused of heresy for possessing sacrilegious writings and worshipping a dark god known as Samael.

DeGault was exiled from Western Europe. Upon arriving in America, he sought a quiet place away from the coast and settled in Silent Hill.

For years DeGault continued his studies and practices in secrecy, until the town’s Puritans heard he purchased an anointing oil from a local merchant.

That particular oil was used in unholy ceremonies. The Puritans wanted DeGault burned at the stake, but law had now taken hold in the region.

DeGault was imprisoned at Toluca island, not so much for his crime, but for his own protection. He was denied his religious materials.

DeGault managed to receive a book that slipped through the prison’s screening process because it was written in Latin. DeGault began to translate it into English.

Page 46: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

46

According to a prison guard’s diary, DeGault called the book the “Crimson Ceremony.” He never divulged its content, but told the guard the original’s text was in Aramaic and written before the time of Christ.

The original Crimson Ceremony had been lost or destroyed through the centuries. After he finished his translation, DeGault began reciting its scripture and chanting.

Strange and bizarre events began happening within the confines of the prison. On the orders of the warden, Confederate soldiers , who were now prison guards, began torturing the Union prisoners.

With the loss of the war, the guards were all too happy to oblige. Then the torture began to escalate, from lack of food and light-deprived solitary confinement, to severe beatings…some almost to death.

Then came the prison trials. The warden appointed himself both prosecutor and judge. The prisoner stood trial alone, denied defense counsel.

Once the prisoner admitted to being a Union soldier, the warden convicted him of war crimes and sentenced him to death. The warden chose the method of execution, either hanging from the gallows, or skewering to death.

The prisoner’s sanctioned death was carried out by a hooded executioner (the Red Pyramid) whose face was never seen…even by the warden.

According to the guard’s diary, DeGault seemed to know the history of the executioner’s past. Like DeGault, he was a warlock from Europe.

Page 47: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

47

The executioner managed to obtain the Spear of Longinus, the very spear that pierced Christ’s side while on the cross.

According to legend, the warlock used the spear in a human sacrifice in order to achieve immortality.

But that immortality came with a price. The warlock was damned to spend eternity carrying out executions in Purgatory.

When the executioner wasn’t slaying prisoners by the dozens, his hammer strikes could be heard echoing throughout the prison as he hammer-forged the shackles of the executed into a large, Damascus steel sword (the Great Knife).

When the warden ran out of Union soldiers to execute, he began sentencing the general population to death, even those convicted of the least of crimes.

Suddenly, DeGault was stricken with the plague, which was brought into the area by the recent wave of immigration. Immediately, the torture and executions stopped.

DeGault, along with the other condemned prisoners, was transported back to the mainland. They were admitted to Brookhaven Hospital.

Since insanity was one of the plague’s symptoms, the prisoners were restrained in straightjackets.

With no known cure, DeGault and the other prisoners died months later in total isolation.

Note: The prisoners who died of the plague became the “Patient Demons” in the alter world.

Page 48: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

48

PROFESSOR BALDWINBefore DeGault was imprisoned, he had fathered a daughter, Antoinette. While in prison, he said he sacrificed Antoinette’s womb to the executioner.

DeGault did so in the hope that Antoinette would give birth to the son of the Dark God, Samael.

While pregnant, Antoinette began having a mental breakdown. She would spout extreme profanities and went so far as masturbating in public.

Antoinette was committed to the Weston State Hospital, which was an insane asylum. She didn’t respond to treatment.

After listening to her endless, profane tirades against Christianity, the doctors consulted the Jesuits. A Jesuit Priest performed an exorcism on Antoinette.

During the exorcism, she went into premature labor. Antoinette died while giving birth. Her child was stillborn.

EXT. BRAHMS ARCHIVES – MORNING

Claudia enters the building. She approaches the front desk.

ARCHIVISTHello, can I help you?

CLAUDIAYes, I’m looking for the newspaper obituaries from the fire in Silent Hill, back in ’74, I believe.

ARCHIVISTThose were just transferred from microfiche to computer.

CLAUDIA

Page 49: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

49

I need the original newsprint. Do you still have them?

ARCHIVISTYes, but it’ll take me a few minutes to get them out of storage.

CLAUDIAThanks, I’ll wait.

INT. CLAUDIA’S LIVING ROOM – MORNING

Claudia has a page of obituaries from Silent Hill’s “Big Fire” in front of her on the dining room table. She then produces a pennant with a channeling stone in it. Claudia dangles it over the obituaries. She then begins to recite Latin (subtitle in English).

When Claudia finishes her Latin verses, she notices the crystal gazing ball on the table next to her. The crystal ball has turned cloudy, with flakes of black ash in it.

INT. BRAHMS MERCY HOSPITAL – FOG REALM

A little boy lies comatose in a hospital bed. He’s hooked up to IVs and various monitors. A bulletin board has the patient’s name written on it in Magic Marker. It reads: “Booth, Ronnie,” along with the status of his current treatment. A blonde-haired nurse enters the room. (Nurse is shot from behind, concealing her face.)

The nurse approaches Ronnie’s bed. She bends over, taking a closer look at the boy. Suddenly, Ronnie’s eyes snap open wide as if he were shocked. Ronnie’s eyes open to the view of the nurse’s face. Her eyes are solid white with blood running like mascara on her face. (The nurse is burnt Alessa’s “Red Nurse”)

The nurse runs her fingers gently over Ronnie’s eyes, closing them. His brainwave activity suddenly spikes on the monitor as a vision of Walter Sullivan in Silent Hill flashes through his mind. After the brief vision, the brainwave monitor goes back to inactive.

EXT. DaSILVA HOME – MORNING

A shot of the front of the DaSilva home. Rose’s Jeep and Chris’s BMW sit in the driveway.

INT. DaSILVA HOME – MORNING

Page 50: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

Chris gets out of the shower in a steam-filled bathroom. He looks into the bathroom mirror and sees the sign of the Silent Hill Motor Inn and the message on its marquee: “Sharon/Rose here Rm #3.” Chris stares at the image, thinking it’s an illusion. He wipes off the mirror with his towel, and the image is gone.

Chris, now dressed, exits the bathroom to find himself in fog of the Alter World. Bewildered by the haze, he visually scans the interior of the house. He dials his cell phone, but the call doesn’t go through. He then tries the home phone, only to get the same.

Chris goes to his desk and unlocks the drawer. Inside is a Walther P-99 pistol with a flashlight/laser mounted on it. He places the pistol along with some extra magazines into his briefcase.

EXT. DaSILVA HOME – FOG REALM

Chris exits the house, briefcase in hand, and suddenly stops. Chris notices that Rose’s Jeep is gone. He then gets into his BMW and heads to Silent Hill.

EXT. ROAD INTO SILENT HILL

Chris drives down the road into Silent Hill. He spots something in the road. He pulls over and gets out to find Officer Bennett’s dumped motorcycle. He gets back in his car and drives on.

Farther up the road, Chris’s BMW shuts down and comes to a rolling stop. Chris turns the key, but the car is dead. Chris gets his pistol and magazines out of the briefcase, gets out of the car, and continues on by foot. A few hundred yards up the road, Chris finds Rose’s Jeep, empty.

INT. WILTSE MINE CAVERN – SILENT HILL

The Search and Rescue team explore the mine cavern. The team of four reach a point where the cavern forks off into two tunnels.

DECKERTRoland, Mark, you two take the right. Danny and I’ll break left. Keep in radio contact. (Pause) And be careful.

MARKYou said, “Be careful.” Does that mean we’re getting “hazard pay?”

Page 51: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

51

DECKERTKeep it up, Haviland, and you’ll be taking a right in the unemployment line.

The team members laugh as they divide up and head into the separate tunnels.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Chris walks down Sanders Street in Silent Hill.

INT. NEELY’S BAR – SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Walter sits passed out behind the counter. Next to him is an empty bottle of whisky.

INT. BRAHMS MERCY HOSPITAL

Ronnie Booth’s brainwave monitor becomes active and begins to spike.

CUT TO:

INT. SILENT HILL MOTOR INN – FOG REALM

(The siren begins to wail.) Rose sits in the candle-lit motel room with Sharon. Hearing the siren, she rises from the chair.

ROSEOh, no.

INT. NEELY’S BAR – FOG REALM

The siren awakens Walter from his drunken stupor.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

The siren winds down and Chris watches as the town is overcome by darkness. Chris draws his pistol and turns on its light.

INT. SILENT HILL MOTOR INN – FOG REALM

Rose and Sharon watch as the motel room decays and transforms to the Dark World.

INT. WILTSE MINE – SILENT HILL

Page 52: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

52

The team, now split up, continues to search the two tunnels. The mine walls begin to crumble. ROLAND radios the other team.

ROLANDHeads up! We might have a cave-in coming! Try to take cover!

Both teams watch in amazement as the rock of the tunnels crumbles away, exposing a world of black iron and expanded steel catwalks with the flames from the coal fires burning beneath them.

DECKERT (on radio)

Are you all right?

ROLANDPhysically, yeah. But for peace of mind, please tell me what the fuck just happened!

DECKERTI don’t know and we’re not sticking around to find out. We rendezvous back at the intersection. Double time! Deckert out.

INT. NEELY’S BAR – DARK WORLD

The bar has transformed into the Dark World. Walter, still drunk, is unnerved. He peeks over the bar. Out the front window he sees the beam of Chris’s light as he Chris walks past the front of the bar.

Walter finds a flashlight under the bar. He shines the light on the wall, illuminating a personalized message to him, written in blood. The message reads:

WALTER, WHY DON’T YOU JUST KILL YOURSELF AND SAVE US THE TROUBLE, ALTHOUGH YOU MIGHT FIND YOURSELF IN A DIFFERENT PLACE THAN YOUR VICTIMS.

INT. SILENT HILL MOTOR INN – DARK WORLD

The door to the motel room begins to creak, getting Rose and Sharon’s attention. Rose deadbolts it. Then the door starts to vibrate in its frame. Rose takes a couple steps back.

Page 53: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

53

The sound of cracking wood is heard as the door begins to warp and contort. A head and limbs emerge from the door as if a human trapped inside it were trying to get out.

Sharon begins to scream. The door uses its new arms and legs to tear itself from its frame. Rose takes the chair and throws it through the window. Rose grabs Sharon by the wrist and pulls her over to the window. Rose then lifts her up onto the heat register.

ROSEGo, Sharon, go!

Sharon goes out the window. The door is almost upon Rose. Rose jumps through the window and runs off with Sharon.

INT. WILTSE MINE CAVERN RENDEZVOUS – DARK WORLD

Deckert and Danny reach the rendezvous point. The two wait for Roland and Mark to arrive.

DECKERT (on the radio)

Roland, over…Roland, over. (Pause) Mark, come in.

Static hisses on Deckert and Danny’s walkie talkies. Suddenly gunshots are heard coming from the other tunnel. Deckert and Danny draw their pistols and switch on the guns’ lights. They then proceed cautiously into the other tunnel.

Deckert’s light illuminates a body on the ground. Deckert rolls the body over to find that it’s Mark. His arm is severed and his torso is hacked up as if by a machete. Deckert and Danny continue on up the tunnel.

Their radios begin to pick up static once again. The men squelch the static.

Deckert turns his pistol light into the shadows, exposing a creature that is now charging at him. He fires a volley of shots, but it keeps coming until it finally succumbs to its bullet wounds.

As it falls at Deckert’s feet, it slashes his leg. Danny steps up and puts two rounds in the creature just for good measure.

DANNYAre you all right?

Page 54: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

54

DECKERTI’m OK. Nothing a few dozen stitches won’t fix. We need to find Roland and get the hell out of here.

DANNYOh, man, this is seriously fucked up.

After searching that area of the tunnel, Danny finds a heap of bloody meat in shredded clothing.

DANNY (about to puke)

I think…I found ‘em!

Deckert comes over to take a look.

DECKERTJesus Christ! It looks like he went through a combine. We’ll come back for them. We’re out of here!

Deckert and Danny retreat. They exit the right tunnel to find another creature lingering in the chamber. The creature notices their lights and moves in on them. Deckert and Danny start unloading on it. After taking several rounds, the creature goes down.

Deckert empty, reloads as the men keep moving toward the surface.

EXT. NEELY’S BAR – DARK WORLD

Flashlight in hand, Walter exits through the bar’s side door. In the alley he looks over his shoulder. He turns his head back to find a mannequin in the beam of his flashlight. The mannequin strikes Walter in the face with its upper leg, knocking him down into some garbage cans.

CUT TO:

Chris hears the garbage cans and turns around to investigate. As Chris approaches the alley, his cell phone gives a staticky ring, but then dies from “Low Battery.”

CUT BACK TO:

Page 55: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

55

Walter gets up as the mannequin approaches. He turns and runs, leaving his flashlight on the ground. Walter slams into Chris as he runs out of the alley.Walter keeps going, running off down the street. Chris sees movement in the shadows around the beam of flashlight. Chris turns on the laser and aims his pistol/light into the alley, illuminating the mannequin, which is moving toward him.

Chris backs up. The mannequin keeps coming. Chris fires four rounds, knocking the mannequin to the ground. Chris walks over to the mannequin, shining his light on it. It bleeds a black-crimson colored blood from the bullet holes.

CUT TO:

BRAHMS MERCY HOSPITAL

Ronnie’s brain wave activity stops. The darkness recedes, and Silent Hill returns to a state of fog and haze.

INT. ST. RENATA COLLEGE, LECTURE HALL – DAY

Detective Gucci enters the hall. He stands near the door till the class ends. After the last of the students exit the hall, Detective Gucci approaches Professor Baldwin. Detective Gucci shows the professor his badge and I.D.

DETECTIVE GUCCIDetective Thomas Gucci. I’d like to have a word with you

PROFESSOR BALDWINCertainly. And this is in regard to?

DETECTIVE GUCCIGhost stories around the campfire. We interviewed some of your students to see if any of them happened to be out partying on Toluca island around the time of the murders.

Funny thing is, a couple of them said you gave a history lesson of the island’s massacres and mayhem. Since you told the class, is there something you’d like to share with the rest of us?

Page 56: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

56

PROFESSOR BALDWINIf the students you spoke to paid attention to that lecture, I would have nothing else to add.

DETECTIVE GUCCIWhere were you yesterday morning?

PROFESSOR BALDWINAt home.

DETECTIVE GUCCICan anyone vouch for your whereabouts?

PROFESSOR BALDWINJust my rowboat.

Detective Gucci grows irritated by Professor Baldwin’s smugness.

DETECTIVE GUCCIListen, I have enough problems right now. If I catch wind of anymore history lectures about murder scenes, grave robbing or even so much as how to field dress a deer, I’m going to haul you in for 72 hours of straight interrogation. Are we clear? (pause) Good.

Detective Gucci leaves.

EXT. STREET IN SILENT HILL

The darkness lifts as Rose and Sharon are on the run in the fog realm. They stop temporarily to rest.

SHARONMommy, let’s go see Dahlia, She can hide us.

ROSEDo you know where to find her?

SHARONYes. She watched me before. It’s this way.

Sharon grabs Rose’s hand and leads the way.

EXT. APARTMENT ABOVE NATHAN PHARMACY

Page 57: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

57

Sharon runs up and points at the apartment door.

SHARONThat’s it. It’s this one, Mommy.

Rose approaches the door.

ROSEDahlia…Dahlia?

Rose slowly turns the doorknob and partially opens the door as it creaks eerily.

ROSEDahlia?

Rose and Sharon enter the apartment cautiously. Rose looks around at the disheveled apartment and its bizarre display of mannequins and religious décor. The camera pans over Rose’s shoulder to show the shadowy silhouette of a figure standing in the open doorway.

Rose turns, startled. She jumps. It’s Dahlia. Dahlia enters the apartment.

ROSEDahlia.

DAHLIAI cannot offer you refuge from the darkness.

ROSEWhy is Alessa doing this?

DAHLIAThe darkness does not come from Alessa, but from another…one outside of this place. This darkness seeks the sinner who now walks among us. (Pause) There is no sanctuary from its wrath.

ROSEWhy were you out in the darkness?

Dahlia kneels down in front of Sharon and puts her hand on the side of Sharon’s face.

Page 58: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

58

DAHLIAI’m ready to accept my fate. I await the embrace of the darkness so I can be with my Alessa.

EXT. MOUTH OF WILTSE MINE CAVERN – FOG REALM

Deckert and Danny exit the mine and enter the alternate fog realm of Silent Hill.

DECKERTWhat the hell?

Deckert and Danny can barely see the SUVs through the haze. Deckert walks over to the first SUV. He opens the door and gets a medical kit from behind the front seat.

Danny checks out the other two SUVs. Deckert sits on the side of the front seat and drops his pants to his knees. He cleans the wound on his leg and wraps it in gauze. Danny returns from the other vehicles.

DANNYThe other two cars are dead.

Deckert gets out his keys and tries to start his SUV. Nothing.

DANNYOh, it gets better. The cell phones don’t work and the GPS is giving off multiple readings. And check this out.

Danny holds out his compass. Deckert watches as the needle spins back and forth around the dial.

DECKERTGather up what we need. We’ll head into town and take the main road out of here.

EXT. STREET INTO DOWNTOWN SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Deckert and Danny reach the edge of the business district. They hear a strange noise, like a tarp flapping in the wind. They look 360 degrees and see nothing but fog, then continue on.

Suddenly a demon pterodactyl silently glides in and slashes Danny’s neck with it’s talons. Danny grabs his carotid artery, which is

Page 59: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

59

spraying blood. He slowly drops to his knees, then flat on the ground.

The pterodactyl, in flight, circles around and lands on Danny’s body. It tears at Danny’s flesh with its beak and talons.

Deckert draws his pistol and dumps five rounds into the creature, killing it. Deckert looks down at Danny’s slashed and bloody body.

EXT. CRICHTON STREET, SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Walter, after being confronted by a creature, comes across the Silent Hill Police Department. Walter enters and looks around. In the locker room is a janitor’s closet. He finds a large screwdriver and pries open one of the lockers.

Inside, he finds a “duty” gun belt. The belt has handcuffs, a flashlight and multiple speedloaders. Inside the holster is a Smith & Wesson Model 27 .357 magnum revolver. He checks the cylinder to find the gun loaded.

He pries open another locker to find a Winchester Model 12 shotgun with a sling and an extended riot magazine tube. Walter finds a roll of duct tape and tapes the flashlight onto the shotgun’s magazine tube.

Walter also finds a box of twelve-gauge shotgun shells, and fills his pockets with the shells. He pulls out an almost empty bottle of pain killers that reads, Dr. M. Kaufman. RX: Oxycontin. MG: 120.

WALTERLooks like it’s time for a refill.

Walter puts the pill bottle back into his pocket and notices a police officer’s badge in the locker. In an act of mockery, Walter pins the badge onto his jacket. He exits the locker room

In the main lobby, Walter sees a town map on the wall. He focuses in on Brookhaven Hospital. On his way out, he notices a bulletin board of “Missing children” posters. The freshly printed posters are dated from the 1990s through 2004, except for one, which is yellowed from age. Walter gazes upon the scrapbook of his victims and licks his lips.

WALTERIt appears someone’s a fan of my work

Page 60: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

60

Walter leaves. The camera focuses in on the yellowed poster. It reads: MISSING – LAURA LOCANE – 1974.

*What are “Missing” posters from the 1990s and on doing in a police station abandoned in 1974?

EXT. ALLEY IN SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Chris wanders an alley, trying to find the motel that Rose and Sharon are at. Chris is startled when he hears a flapping noise. He notices a sheet on a clothesline in a back yard. It blows lightly in the wind. At ease, Chris continues on.

The camera pans up to a stone window ledge on a second story building. A demon pterodactyl lands and perches. Like a vulture biding its time, it watches Chris like prey.

The alley dead-ends into Weaver street. Chris walks down Weaver. Through the haze he notices the Silent Hill Motor Inn. He jogs into the parking lot and notices a chair lying on the asphalt surrounded by broken glass.

CHRISRose…Rose!

Chris rushes to Room 3 and finds the entry door lying on the floor. He checks the bathroom, only to find the motel room empty. Chris notices Sharon’s sketchbook on the bed. On top of the sketch book is an old bronze skeleton key.

He picks up the key and the sketchbook and sits down on the bed. The sketchbook reveals a child’s drawing of a mother and her young daughter looking at paintings on a wall. In big letters is written: “MUSEEIM.”

CHRISMuseum?

EXT. LEVIN STREET – FOG REALM

Deckert is being chased by a demon dog. His pistol is drawn. Deckert gets cornered onto the front steps of a home. He loses the dog visually on the outskirts of the haze. The door to the house is locked.

Page 61: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

61

The dog makes a sneak attack from out of the haze, lunging at Deckert. Startled, Deckert’s first shot misses, but his second connects, knocking the dog back.

CUT TO:

Now wandering the fog-filled streets, Chris hears the shots and proceeds in that direction.

CUT BACK TO:

Deckert’s last shot, the slide on his pistol is now blown back. The dog recovers and is about to lunge again. Deckert hits the slide release on his pistol. As the dog leaps at Deckert, he smashes it in the head with the butt of his gun, knocking the dog down.

Deckert puts some weight into his foot and stomps the dog, finishing it off.

Deckert then turns and kicks the front door, leaving a bloody footprint by the door knob. With the second kick the door jamb splinters. Deckert holsters the pistol and enters the home. The camera pans back to show a doghouse in the front yard.

CUT TO:

Chris turns and walks down Levin Street.

INT. HOUSE ON LEVIN STREET –SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Deckert goes through the house looking for anything of use. He tries to open the bedroom door, it’s locked. He pulls out his folding knife and pops the bolt. Deckert opens the door to find a room decorated in a Japanese motif.

On the floor is a katanakake sword stand holding a katana (large) and a wakizashi (medium) Samurai sword.

EXT. LEVIN STREET - SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Chris walks up the street and sees the dead demon dog in the front yard. He then notices the front door of the house is kicked in. With his pistol drawn, Chris cautiously enters. It’s deathly silent inside the house.

Page 62: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

62

In a flash, Deckert rounds a corner. Chris and Deckert find their faces inches from the barrel of a gun and the edge of a Samurai sword. Each exhale heavily and relax their draw.

DECKERTWhat the fuck did you get us into? The rest of my team was just slaughtered by these…I don’t know…things!

CHRISHey – We’re in the same boat. Do you think if I had known about this when I hired you, that I’d be here now? (Pause) Do you have a map of the town’s businesses?

DECKERTYeah.

CHRISI think my wife and daughter are at the museum. I need to find it.

Deckert removes some maps from his backpack and finds the business district map.

DECKERTThere’s no museum on the map.

CHRISThe Historical Society, that’s it. We need to get there.

DECKERTI hope I live long enough to bill you for this!

EXT. BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL – FOG REALM

Walter walks past the hospital sign and enters the lobby. In the lobby he sees a sign that says “PHARMACY – 418.” He heads for the stairwell, but the door is locked. Walter hears the elevator DING around the corner.

He gets into the elevator and notices that the buttons are “Basement – through – 3rd Floor.”

Page 63: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

63

Walter presses the 3rd Floor button. The elevator takes him to the 3rd

floor. He exits the elevator and tries the door to the stairwell. It’s locked. He returns to the elevator. He goes to press the 1st Floor button when he notices a “4th Floor” button has now mysteriously appeared.

WALTERO…K… I see I really need to get my meds.

Walter presses the 4th Floor button and gets off at the fourth floor. He walks down the hall, passing several rooms until he comes to an intersection in the hall. The sign on the wall reads: “Pharmacy” and has an arrow pointing the way. Walter sees an old wheelchair sitting in the hall.

Walter passes a few more rooms and comes to the pharmacy—“418” at the end of the hall. He enters the pharmacy.

CUT TO:

ROOM 418, BRAHMS MERCY HOSPITAL

A nurse checks on Ronnie. She notices slight brainwave activity on the monitor. The nurse calls for a doctor. Two doctors and another nurse respond.

CUT BACK TO:

PHARMACY, BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL

Walter fills his pill bottle with the pain killer of the day back in ’74. He fills a couple more bottles just for good measure, and to top it off, swallows a palm full of pills. Getting what he came for, Walter gets ready to leave.

The faint sound of a siren is heard in the background.

CUT TO:

ROOM 418 – BRAHMS MERCY HOSPITAL

The doctors and nurses examine Ronnie and his monitors. One of the doctors lifts Ronnie’s eyelid and exposes his eye to his penlight. Ronnie’s pupil drastically responds.

Page 64: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

64

Through a haze, Ronnie sees the doctors and nurses standing over him. Ronnie’s hand frantically clutches the sheet and his brainwaves spike on the monitor.

INT. CLAUDIA WOLF’S LIVING ROOM

Claudia notices her crystal ball has turned from fogged to opaque black.

CUT BACK TO:

BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL

Walter exits the pharmacy into a hallway of darkness. He hears the eerie squeaking of rusted metal. He turns on the flashlight on his shotgun to light the way. Walter aims the light at the source of the noise.

It’s the wheelchair, which is now turned on its side with its wheel spinning. From out of the shadows a demon nurse rushes at Walter. He cross-checks her with his shotgun, backing her off, but drops his shotgun in the act.

The flashlight gives off enough illumination for Walter to draw his revolver and blow the brains out of the back of the nurse’s head.

A demon doctor comes at Walter wielding a scalpel. Walter puts two rounds in the doctor’s chest, dropping him. Walter makes his way back to the elevator. He gets in and again sees only “B – 3rd Floor” buttons. Walter presses the first floor button. No response.

He presses it again. Nothing. He presses buttons 2 and 3. They don’t respond either. Walter gets out of the elevator and goes to the stairwell. Like on the other floors, the door is locked.

Walter is smacked in the back by a nurse wielding a lead pipe, knocking him to the floor. He fires two rounds into the nurse, killing it. He gets up off the floor to find a pair of surgical limb pruners coming for his throat.

Walter jerks his head back and out of the way as the surgical pruners snap closed. He fires his last round into the demon doctor, knocking him to the floor. As the doctor spasms, Walter stands over it and pulls the trigger, only to hear the hammer “click” on the empty revolver.

Page 65: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

65

He then picks up the surgical pruners. Pulling the handles apart, he aims down toward the ground out of the camera’s view. (OC)

WALTERNow, you may feel a slight discomfort.

A SNAP is heard as the spring-assisted handles close on the pruners. Walter turns to the stairwell door. Taking his shotgun, he blows the doorknob out of the door and heads down the stairwell.

EXT. STREETS OF SILENT HILL

The darkness lifts. Chris and Deckert navigate the streets on the way to the Historical Society. They come to an abrupt stop as they stand at the edge of a cliff where the street used to be.

DECKERTWhoa, that ain’t on the map.

They turn around and seek an alternative route. Farther down the street, Chris and Deckert run into a mannequin. Deckert draws his sword on the motionless mannequin. Chris has him covered with his pistol a few feet behind.

Suddenly, a demon dog jumps out of a side alley and onto Chris, knocking him to the ground. Chris’s pistol slides away from him. The demon dog snarls as it stands over him. Just as it’s about to tear Chris’s face off, its body is sliced completely in half at an angle by Deckert’s sword.

Chris gives Deckert a strange look, as if he’s looking straight through him. Deckert crouches down and releases his right hand from the sword, swinging it one-handed behind him. Completing the move, Deckert pivots around to watch the mannequin fall to the ground in two halves.

Organs and intestines ooze out onto the street, while both sets of legs twitch and spasm. Deckert gives Chris a hand up off the street. Chris picks up his pistol next to a manhole cover.

Close up on the manhole cover: The manhole cover has the mark of Samael incorporated in it (triangle inside a circle) and reads: “Silent Hill” on the top and “Samael Foundry” on the bottom.

EXT. DOWN THE STREET FROM BROOKHAVEN HOSPITAL

Page 66: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

66

Walter comes across the “Heaven’s Night” strip club. He wanders inside. Walter goes behind the bar and helps himself to a couple of fifths of Jim Beam. He takes the whiskey over to a table, puts his shotgun down and has a seat.

As Walter cracks the cap and takes a pull off the bottle, he notices some mannequins. He takes a two-piece mannequin (head down to butt style with its seam in the middle). Walter takes the buttstock of his shotgun and smashes a large hole in the pelvic region.

He puts the lower half of the mannequin on his head, wearing its ass as a hat. He sits back down taking the upper half and putting its head in his lap. Looking ridiculous, Walter takes a couple more pulls off the bottle as a mannequin creature walks out from around a corner.

WALTERYou didn’t mention you had a jealous boyfriend.

Walter picks up the shotgun one-handed and fires, knocking the mannequin back against the wall, then down to the floor. Out of the plate-size hole in the mannequin’s center mass pours out intestines onto the floor.

He puts the buttstock on the floor and racks another round, setting the shotgun back on the table.

WALTERSorry, darling, some people just don’t know how to act at a gentlemen’s club.

Walter takes his bottle of whiskey and pours it on the top of his head. The whiskey runs down the crack of the mannequin’s ass and in front of Walter’s face. He flicks his tongue to catch the stream in his mouth.

CUT TO:

The wall with the “blasted” mannequin leaning on it. A whiskey bottle smashes on the wall above it. The dregs run down the wall and onto the mannequin.

EXT. SILENT HILL HISTORICAL SOCIETY – FOG REALM

museum. Using their flashlights, they look around at the relics and things that are over a century old.

Chris walks past a shattered glass showcase and views a painting of a man in a pointed, crimson colored hood and wearing a butcher’s smock. He holds a large sword (Red Pyramid and the Great Knife).

He stands over a chopping block that has three heads on it next to each other that could be taken off all at once with one swing of his sword.

Deckert finds a candle lit on a desk in the other room. He looks down to see a newspaper from 1974. The article reads: FOUR FIREFIGHTERS DIE IN SILENT HILL BLAZE. Deckert looks at the four photos of the firemen. The photos are of Mark Haviland, Roland Precht, Daniel Sims, and Deckert himself.

The names under the photos are different from Deckert’s and his team. Next to the newspaper is a 1973 yearbook from Midwich Elementary. In the closed yearbook is a piece of newspaper that sticks out like a bookmark.

DECKERTChris, come here!

Chris takes his attention from the painting and rushes into the next room. Deckert looks flushed as he shines his flashlight down on the open yearbook. Chris looks down at the book, then looks back up at Deckert. Both men are almost ghost white.

Chris tears out the page in the yearbook and folds it up with the piece of newspaper and puts it in his vest pocket.

CHRISLet’s find this school.

INT. CLAUDIA WOLF’S HOME - DAY

Claudia looks at the obituary page that she had divined over. The newspaper is extremely yellowed from age. Now three names in the obituary have turned white as if they were printed yesterday.

The names in the whitened sections are: James Sunderland, Mary Shepard Sunderland, and Alessa Gillespie.

Dahlia sits staring at Sharon as Sharon colors in a coloring book. Rose sees that look of a mother who has just been reunited with her child. Rose approaches Dahlia. Rose takes the locket from around her (Rose’s) neck.

ROSEDahlia, I want you to have this.

She puts the locket around Dahlia’s neck. Dahlia lifts the locket and opens it, looking at the photo of Sharon in it.

DAHLIAThank you.

Rose watches Sharon coloring.

ROSEAre you staying in the lines, kiddo?

SHARONOf course, Mommy.

Dahlia holds the locket, staring at the photo of Sharon, and walks over to the window. A shadow outside darkens the window. Dahlia lifts her eyes from the photo and looks out the window.

As if by a hurricane wind, glass shatters and flies through the apartment, followed by a demon pterodactyl which grabs Dahlia with its talons, yanking her through the window.

Rose, with a cut on her face, screams out.

ROSEOh, my God! Sharon!

Rose grab’s Sharon’s hand and takes off running, almost dragging Sharon out the apartment door. Rose and Sharon run through the back yard and into the alley. Running down the alley, they spill out onto a street.

SHARONMommy, I need to stop…I can’t run anymore

Rose and Sharon are taking a quick breather when Rose notices a little blonde-haired girl (Laura Locane) sitting on a bench and playing with a teddy bear.

LAURAAre you Rose?

ROSEYes…how did you know?

LAURAI’m Laura. Chris told me to give you this.

Laura hands Rose a letter. Rose reads it: “Rose, meet me at the school – Chris.”

ROSEThis is Chris’s handwriting. Where did you get this…Where’s Chris?

LAURAAt the school…I’ll see you there.

Laura runs off into the fog.

ROSEWait!

INT. CLAUDIA WOLF’S HOME –DAY

Claudia happens to hear a news broadcast on TV as she passes through the living room.

NEWSCASTER“…there are still no leads in the disappearance of a mother, daughter and a Brahms police officer in Silent Hill two weeks ago.”

The pictures of Officer Bennett, Rose, and Sharon DaSilva are now put up on the TV screen. Claudia focuses in on Sharon.

NEWSCASTER“If you have any information on the whereabouts of…”

Claudia rushes into her study. She approaches the bookcase and visually scans the numerous books on the occult. Claudia focuses on a book titled “The History of Witchcraft in America.”

Pulling the title from the shelf, Claudia flips to the glossary. She indexes down with her finger and stops at “DeGault, pages 63-68.” Claudia thumbs backwards through the pages.

She stops on the page she was looking for. Claudia stares at a photo of the portrait of Antoinette DeGault, whose likeness is identical to Sharon DaSilva’s.

CLAUDIA(to herself)

Baldwin…that wretched bastard! He brought Walter Sullivan back to rape that little girl! (pause) He actually believes he can facilitate the birth of Samael.

INT. CLAUDIA WOLF’S HOME – DAY

Claudia opens the door and lets Angela in.

ANGELAWhat’s so important it couldn’t wait?

CLAUDIAI need a really big favor.

Claudia opens her copy of the Crimson Ceremony to a bookmarked page. On the flagged page is an illustration of the Obsidian Grail. Claudia shows it to Angela.

CLAUDIAProfessor Baldwin recently purchased this goblet. I need to borrow it. The thing is, is that he can’t know.

ANGELAI’d like to help you…but if I get caught, it’s my job…I could even go to jail!

CLAUDIAI’ve called the college; he’s holding class till this evening. I can have it back in an hour…he’ll never know it was missing.

Angela reluctantly thinks it over.

ANGELAAll right. (pause) I’ll call you when I’ve got it.

EXT. ALLEY BEHIND LEVIN STREET – FOG REALM

After leaving Heaven’s Night, Walter wanders down the alley. Drunk and carrying a bottle of whiskey, he comes face to face with a demon dog. Walter draws his knife.

WALTERNice doggie.

CUT TO:

BASKETBALL BACKBOARD IN ALLEY

A vicious growl is heard, followed by a high-pitched yelp. The demon dog’s head rebounds off the backboard, leaving a blood splatter as it drops through the hoop.

A wet splatter sound is heard like a mop hitting the floor when its head hits the pavement. Walter takes a pull off his bottle and continues down the alley.

EXT. STREETS OF SILENT HILL – FOG REALM

Rose checks the bus routes on the light posts. Rose and Sharon navigate through the streets of Silent Hill to Midwich Elementary. Rose and Sharon arrive outside Midwich Elementary. Little do they know they’re being watched by Walter.

CUT TO:INSIDE SCHOOL BUS IN FRONT OF SCHOOL

Walter sits watching Rose and Sharon as they enter the school.

WALTERAh, it’s nice to see you can get fresh, tender veal in this dump.

Walter gets up and out of his seat. He pulls the driver’s handle, opening the bus’s door. He exits the bus and heads into the school.

INT. MIDWICH ELEMENTARY HALLWAY – FOG REALM

Rose and Sharon wander down a hallway. Walter uses his legs to push himself off a wall and into the hallway on a castered chair.

WALTERDo you know how hard it is to get some action in this town? Let me tell ya…it’s a killer.

Rose and Sharon turn and run through the double doors behind them. On the other side of the doors, Laura holds open the bathroom door.

LAURAC’mon, in here!

Rose and Sharon run into the bathroom to find it’s a dead end. They’re now cornered. Inside the bathroom, Laura is nowhere to be found. As Walter comes through the double doors, he sees the bathroom door swing closed. As Walter enters the bathroom, at first glance the bathroom appears empty. Walter kicks open the stall doors, one at a time to find them empty.

Walter kicks open the last stall door. There’s a body strung up in barbed wire. Walter shines his flashlight on the body. The twisted corpse is no longer the body of the janitor who raped Alessa Gillespie in 1974, but Walter’s own…bound and tortured. Once again, Walter sees his own mortality staring him back in the face.

CUT TO:

SECOND FLOOR BATHROOM

Rose and Sharon have “warped” from the first floor bathroom to the second floor. Laura opens the bathroom door and sticks her head in.

LAURAIt’s safe to come out now. Go down the stairs and through the double doors.

Rose and Sharon go down the hall, then the stairs. Coming out of the first floor bathroom, Walter sees Rose and Sharon cross the hall at the other end.

Page 73: Return to Silent Hill Signed: Lost Memories by Robert W. Cole (Read in Fullscreen)

Walter gives pursuit as Rose and Sharon pass through the double doors. Rose sees the doors to the courtyard open and takes Sharon out and through the courtyard.

Walter enters the courtyard and the doors behind him slam shut and are heard to bolt. Rose and Sharon run through the opposite courtyard doors, which are open.

Laura slams them shut behind Rose and Sharon, locking herself inside the courtyard with Walter. Rose turns around and frantically tries to open the doors.

ROSELaura…Laura!

Rose pounds on the doors but they remain locked.

The warning siren for the Dark World is heard.
