Reunion Guidelines Ipswich Grammar School Old Boys Association

Ipswich Grammar School Old Boys Reunions are a great opportunity to reflect, reminisce and reconnect with fellow past students. These don’t have to be formal in nature but can be a more relaxed get together for your graduating cohort. Many Old Boys find it easier to organise family picnics, informal drinks or maybe a sit down lunch. Whether big or small a reunion is fantastic way to re-establish old friendships.

Where to start?

Being the only person involved can prove daunting and the primary reason why so many reunions don’t go ahead as desired. Look to enlist the assistance of fellow Old Boys and establish a workgroup who can share the workload of your event and give it the best opportunity for success. The School will happily assist any Old Boys who are looking to coordinate events and be able to begin putting you in touch with the right connections to host a successful event. Sharing the load with other Old Boys will also assist in allowing momentum to build for your event and this is where the School will be able to assist getting this communication to happen.

When is best to host?

When determining the date of your reunion some things to consider could include sporting or cultural events, public holidays and events on the IGS schedule. Meeting up at IGS Saturday sporting events could be an easy meeting point for your group and a starting point for any function following the sport event. Allocating a date as early possible will allow the maximum amount of time for your invitees to plan their own schedule or coordinate any travel pending your guests are interstate or overseas.

Determine the cost

It is best practice to finalise the end cost of any venue hire, catering, entertainment costs and administration before sending out invites to your guests. To assist with covering the final costs this breakdown will help determine what price you will need to send any tickets to the function you are organising. A more informal reunion will have reduced costs and may only require a room booking for your guests.

How to contact your peers

Due to privacy laws, the School is unable to provide the contact details of your fellow Old Boys however we are more than happy to send any invites out on your behalf. Event details can be distributed via email as well as the School and Old Boys related social media networks.
