If no one comes forward before Mass the ushers will ask a volunteer to fulfill this privilege.

SACRED HEART PARISH COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT This year we are assembling 1,000 bags of comfort and personal care items for people who need a little extra love and support. They will be assembled on Thursday, February 7, 2019. They will be sent to Horizon Rehab Facilities, Haven House and Other Child & Family Service loca-tions. Collections will take place the first two weeks in January, please consider putting some of our Christmas funds aside now. For information regarding bulk products, (such as: chapstick, washcloths, body wash, notepads, gloves, hats, socks or pens), please contact Julie at (716)462-9919.

The Ordinary Family?

Joseph was a tradesmen, a carpenter. He made things out of wood: plows, tables, chairs, ladders and maybe parts of houses. He lived in Naza-reth. Before Jesus was born he traveled to Bethlehem and then Egypt for a short time, but the majority of his life was in a small insignificant town. He wasn't highly educated. He never had much money. He never wrote a book, fought in a war or held any political office. As far as we know, he never tried to do anything significant to make the world a better place to live.

Mary was a housewife. She cooked, cleaned and took care of Joseph and Jesus. She never had a paying job. She only had one child. She wasn't highly educated. She never had much money. She never wrote a book or held political office. She traveled a little, but lived mostly in the little town of Nazareth.

Jesus was the only child of poor parents. He lived a very ordinary childhood and learned to be a carpenter like his father.

To the world around them this was all they saw of Jesus, Mary and Joseph during the time they lived together as a family in Nazareth.

And yet today, we celebrate this ordinary family as not just a holy family, but as THE Holy Family. Not because they did amazing things. Not because they were great leaders or great workers of social justice. They are The Holy Family because of one reason. Every single time God asked them to do something, they said yes. With joy and love, this family always, without fail, did everything the Lord asked of them.

They may have been thought of as ordinary by the people who knew them in Nazareth, but in the eyes of God they were champions, warriors, selfless, loving, humble, just, faithful, prudent, temperate and so much more. They were holy.

This and other ar cles by Mike Denz can be found on our parish website under “Sacred Thinking”.

Response-to-Love Center Please note that there will be no collections for the Response-to-Love Center during the month of December. Thank you for all the wonderful donations of cleaning supplies during November! They will be well used.

We and the entire Response-To-Love staff, wish you and yours a Blessed & Peaceful Christmas Season!

Please pray the “Chaplet of Reparation”

Offering of the Precious Blood for Priests.

(Prayed on ordinary rosary beads.) On the Our Father Beads: “Eternal Father, I offer you the Precious Blood of your Be-loved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb without blemish or spot, in reparation for my sins and for the sins of all your priests.”

On the 10 Hail Mary beads, pray: “By your Precious Blood, O Jesus, purify and sanctify your priests.”

At the end of each decade, the prayer is: “O Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth is named, have mercy on all your priests and wash them in the Blood of the Lamb.”

What a beautiful prayer to say for the renewal of the clergy!

COMMUNITY EVENTS

LIVING NATIVITY! Rejoice! Rejoice! Join St. Gregory’s on Wed., Dec.26th

and 27th from 7-9 PM to continue the celebration of Christ’s birth with a walk-through Living Nativity. This

will feature live animals, a children’s choir of angels, and much more. Guests will meet in the Parish Gather-ing Room where they will walk through various scenes depicting the journey to Bethlehem. All are welcome!

200 St. Gregory Court, Williamsville, NY

“Augus ne drew out the meaning of the manger using an idea that at first seems almost shocking, but on closer examina on contains a profound truth. The manger is the place where animals find their food. But now, lying in the manger, is He who called Himself the true bread come down from heaven, the true nourishment that we need in order to be fully ourselves. This is the food that gives us true life, eternal life. Thus the manger becomes a reference to the table of God, to which we are invited so as to receive the bread of God. From the poverty of Jesus’ birth emerges the miracle in which man’s redemp on is mysteriously accomplished.”
