The 2018 MOLN Spring Conference goal is to present nurse leaders with key components for building empowered collegial relationships in the health care environment and to provide nurse leaders with practical strategies for creating inclusivity in the workplace.

AUDIENCE: The conference is specially designed for chief nursing officers, nurse managers, nurse leaders, school of nursing faculty, advance practice nurses, clinical nurse specialists, registered nurses and student nurses.

Contact hours: ANCC contact hours have been applied for, and will be awarded for the successful completion of the two-day conference.

NETWORK: The MOLN Spring Conference is a wonderful opportunity to engage with your colleagues in the Minne-sota nursing community. More than 250 nurse leaders and educators representing more than 100 hospitals, clinics, and health care agencies will come together for the conference.

Rich Bluni, RNRich Bluni is a highly sought-after national speaker and the best-selling author of the award-winning books Inspired Nurse and Inspired Journal. His newest book Oh No...Not More of That Fluffy Stuff! was recently published. He brings a strong knowledge base of healthcare from both the frontline and leadership perspective coupled with the ability to articulate the passion and energy audiences love. Mr. Bluni initially joined Studer Group as a high-performing Studer Group coach in 2007, and achieved outstanding results working with his partner organizations. Mr. Bluni has over 21 years of nursing, risk management, patient safety, and leadership experience. With clinical experience in a broad range of areas such as Pediatric Intensive Care, Trauma Intensive Care, Flight Nursing, Behavioral Health,

and Emergency Medicine, he understands the challenges, joys, and value of purpose, worthwhile work, and making a difference in healthcare.

Rahul Koranne, MD, MBA, FACPDr. Koranne joined the Minnesota Hospital Association’s (MHA) leadership team as senior vice president of clinical affairs and chief medical officer in February of 2015. Prior to joining MHA, Dr. Koranne practiced in a critical access hospital system in Starbuck, MN and he served as vice president & executive medical director for HealthEast Care System, Community Services, Post Acute Care & Bethesda Specialty Hospital. He is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics and was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2006. Dr. Koranne’s areas of interest are health care transformation by linking health care delivery with community based services (both medical and social) and innovative systems to

promote health while striving to achieve all of the IHI triple aims for our communities.

Father Nick MezacapaNick has been an ordained Episcopal Priest for the past 25 years, and for the past 20 years has served as the rector of Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, MN (right across the street from the Mayo Clinic). Before coming to Minnesota he served churches in Iowa, Michigan, and New York. A graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, he was trained as a teacher and athletics coach and worked in the academic field for seven years. It was after his teaching career that he attended Colgate/Rochester/Bexley Hall/Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York to receive his Master’s in Divinity Degree and subsequent ordination to the priesthood.

Faith Roberts, RN, MSNFaith speaks across the U.S. and Canada to educators, leadership and clinical staff from both community based and teaching hospitals. She is known for her work on the generations and the impact authenticity and credibility have on an individuals’ success. Currently Faith is the director of magnet, professional practice and parish nursing for Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle Physician Group in Urbana, Illinois. Faith has been a nurse for 42 years. She is a co-author of the AACN Core Curriculum of Sub -Acute Care as well as several articles/chapters on generational differences, process dynamics, communication and collaboration, burns and sexuality, the socialization of nurses into the profession, prayer and presence.

She has given over 3100 presentations on the state, national and international level.

1:05 to 2:15 p.m. Building Partnerships with Physicians to Improve QualityRahul Koranne, MD, MBA, FACPFor many in our industry, quality of health care is increasingly being defined by the quadruple aim - simultaneously improving the experience of care, the cost of care, the health of populations and reduction in burnout for staff. Dr. Koranne, chief medical officer of the Minnesota Hospital Association will open our conference with an interactive discussion on how to partner with physicians and other staff in order to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients, families and communities.

Sometimes we need to connect to our “why”, some people might call that “fluffy stuff” but many of us look at that as the essential things we need to do to feel connected to our work.

Skills for the new millenniumFaith Roberts, RN, MSNThe more complex the critically ill patient, the more complex the judgments today’s nurse is challenged to make. This presentation will define critical thinking and offer several strategies to promote such skills. The importance of questioning will be emphasized as well as how to successfully utilize case studies as learning tools.

1:00 to 2:15 p.m. Turning It AroundFather Nick MezacapaPersonal and corporate motion can run out of energy and lethargically struggle towards the end of the line. Having the ability to recognize this loss of vigor and applying the trust and resources to re-energize the process is part of a formula for success. Aspects of that formula presented in this talk are aimed at developing a practical working model.
