Recently named one of the best places to be a student
(www.accommodationforstudents.com), Aberdeen is a lively city with something
for everyone. With over 25,000 students making up 10% of the city’s population,
you’ll be part of a student friendly city if you choose to study here.
GETTING HERE
An accessible external transport system links Aberdeen to the rest of the United
Kingdom and Europe. East Coast and Scotrail train services link Aberdeen with
the UK’s major cities. Aberdeen Airport is also a busy transport hub with flight
operators such as Easyjet, Aer Lingus, FlyBe, and BMI connecting students to
Aberdeen quickly and efficiently. All in all, Aberdeen is well in touch with all UK
cities so there are easy ways to visit family and friends back home or get them to
visit you!
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP
Union Square is Aberdeen’s newest shopping mall and it tempts the shopper to
buy the latest fashion as soon as you step off your train. A bite to eat isn’t too
costly if you plan to take a load off your feet at the cafes and restaurants that Union
Square offers. From clothes to technology, every student will be unable to resist
indulging in high street brands and seeking out the odd bargain!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Aberdeen was named the sunniest city in Scotland (Bank of Scotland Quality of
Life League Dec 2011), so there will be plenty of opportunity to get outside and
enjoy our great Scottish location.
Outwith the city, Aberdeen is surprisingly close to the Cairngorms where a
multitude of outdoor activities await. Kayaking, surfing, mountain climbing,
snowboarding and white water rafting are all available to challenge even the most
active person!
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
The Music Hall and AECC attract leading names from the world of entertainment
and music, recently including The Killers, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Jimmy Carr and Michael
McIntyre. Smaller venues like The Tunnels and Café Drummonds are the perfect
platforms for showcasing new and emerging local bands.
”When I visited Aberdeen I was drawn by the friendliness
of the people, the beach and sea being so close to the
city and the University’s beautiful riverside campus.”
- Aisling Shannon, Architecture student
Starting at university is a new and exciting time and we realise the importance of finding the right place to live. Living in Robert Gordon University residences allows you to meet a diverse mix of students from different backgrounds on a variety of courses.
At Open Day we aim to help you get a feel for the University Halls of Residence by offering talks throughout the day, the chance to talk to staff and students at the Information Fair or you can take a free bus tour showing you where some of our accommodation is located.
Don’t forget to look out for videos of our accommodation being shown on plasma screens at the Information Fair.
Two of our popular accommodation sites that will be included on the bus tour include:
Woolmanhill Halls (134 John Street, AB25 1LE) Woolmanhill Halls of residence is our largest complex with 736 residents on site. Recently refurbished, Woolmanhill houses 600 standard rooms and 136 ensuite rooms. It is right in the heart of the city centre, meaning students have easy access to all the city has to offer.
Crathie Student Village (515-519 Holburn Street, AB10 7LG)A purpose built student accommodation site housing 96 residents. All rooms are ensuite and the site is midway between the university and the city centre making it ideally located for study, work and socialising.
TALKS Throughout the day we will be holding talks on Campus on the accommodation RGU has to offer - to plan your day check out the timetable to see when and where these are happening.
TOURS The tour bus will take you to see where some of our accommodation sites are located and give you a feel for what is available in the area.
As Saturday 18th June is moving out day for current students, unfortunately we will not be able to take you into the accommodation sites or to view the rooms.

look for the meeting point on the Plaza outside the Sir Ian Wood Building. Our
Student Ambassadors can give you the real insight on the best places to go for a
coffee, study or even just relax. Tours will run throughout the day.
STUDENT AMBASSADORS
There will be Student Ambassadors available around the campus to answer any
questions you may have about our Open Day or what it’s like to study here. Don’t
be shy - they’re here to help and they’ll be disappointed if you don’t speak to them!
Look out for them in their purple hoodies.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

additional information you need about life as a student. That might be about
Student Finance, Studying Abroad, Study Skills advice or Admissions. To get
this, you can visit the Information Fair in the Faculty of Health and Social Care
