DO IT RIGHT.DO IT BETTER.OR DON’T DO IT.— George Kepes , Founder

Our founder George Kepes believed in

a higher standard of engineering — one of

advanced design. His commitment to quality

and innovation helped Tensor become a

global leader in fiber optic and specialized

copper wire manufacturing machinery.

Today, his legacy is alive in the innovative

machines we produce — like our HD SZ

Stranding line. We take pride in not just

following but exceeding the high standard

he set for us. Because when we build it

better for you, we build it better for him.

CONDUCTIVITY MEETS TENSILE STRENGTH

Reliability is key when it comes to high-end applications. ISA-CON wire offers optimum reliability for high-end applications, combining the conductivity of copper with the tensile strength of steel. It meets the highest standards wherever you need it. Both as wire and as cord, the ISA-CON raises the bar in terms of conductivity and exural strength.

expenditures. CCG is committed to providing chemically foamable solutions for cable com-ponents from fillers to insulation to jacketing for any range of materials and temperature ratings. Our foaming technology can be used to lightweight cables, improve fire and electri-cal performance, and decrease raw material costs for any cable construction. With a twin screw and two Buss Kneader compounding lines, CCG has broadly expanded its chemi-cal foaming product line via compounding foamable pellets with a focus on lightweight-ing materials. The range of materials includes fluoropolymers (FEP, PFA, MFA, ECTFE, PVDF), engineered resins (PEKK, PEEK, PPS, PPSU, PES, PSU), and both halogen-ated and non-halogenated formulas. Fluoro-Foam® is CCG’s flagship line of chemically foamable fluoropolymers such as FEP and MFA for insulation. This innovative small-cell foam is especially suited for Category 6, 6e, 6A and Category 8 standards. It is equally suited for the evolving Power over LAN requirement as these fluoropolymers can withstand the increased temperature load of a powered cable bundle. Halgone Lite®, CCG’s line of chemically foamable engi-neered resins, allows insulations, jackets and cable fillers to be foamed in non-halogenated applications, while remaining resilient to high operating temperatures. New Update: CCG recently further expanded its high-performance capability filler and compound knowledge base by formally becoming a sister company to Gendon Polymers Services Inc (Gendon). This year, Clin-ton introduces the new B-Series DC spark testers. Following the success of the Model HF-15B high frequency sine wave spark tester, Clinton’s range of DC spark testers

have been redesigned to make use of the many advancements of the B-series. Among the features of the B-Series are the innova-tive split-electrode design for easy string up. The B series fault circuitry differenti-ates between four types of fault conditions: simple pinholes, a series of closely spaced pinholes, direct metal contact from the center conductor to the electrode, and gross lengths of bare wire. The “RC” controller is supplied fixed to the unit, but can be readily detached and mounted remotely up to 60 meters away from the test module/electrode. Configuration of the equipment is easy; all configuration parameters can be changed directly from the front panel menu structure, as well as remotely from a PC. Industrial field bus controls are supported. Modbus RTU (RS-485 full duplex) is supplied with the system, and optional protocols are avail-able: Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus TCP, and analog communications, can be pre-installed, or added at a later date. At the show, Clinton will be exhibiting examples of the new B-Series spark testers, including the brand new Model TSTB, a 10 kVDC “wireless” spark testing system for cable twinners, demonstrated on a model twinner. Also shown will be the HF-15B-high frequency sine wave spark tester and the STCAL Spark tester calibration system.

The high temperature brazing ISA-BRAZE® offers an alternative in the field of joining and bonding technology. There is clearly less splatter than from standard wires for arc applications and it is ideal for fluxless brazing using shielding gases.

Good for gap, joint, and resurface brazing, it may also be used as afunctional material for coatings.

With ISA-BRAZE®, all kinds of steels (e.g. nickel alloys, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten) can be joined or then coated.

Proven alloy as baseISA-BRAZE®970 is based on the precision resistance alloy CuMn12Ni (MANGANIN®), which has proven itself for more than 20 years. It can optionally have silicon added, which improves the flow-ability and thus the shape and gap filling properties. ISA BRAZE®980 is a copper manganese cobalt alloy.

High purity by vacuum The ISA-BRAZE® alloys are produced in a vacuum furnace, givingthem a very high degree of purity.

This keeps gas and non-metallic inclusions, among others, to aminimum. The high degree of purity is expressed in beneficialchemical and electro-physical properties, which depending oncustomer requirements can also be used functionally, e.g. thermalconductivity, electrical conductivity, electrical resistivity, thermalvoltage, and temperature coefficient.

Likewise, it results in high oxidation and is corrosion resistant, making very homogeneous neat joints or coatings.

ISA-BRAZE® High temperature brazing alloy

product overview

ISA-CON® High electrical conductivity alloy

Copper is frequently used as an electrical conductor. It has anumber of disadvantages, including low tensile strength, lowmechanical hardness and limited bending strength. Isabellenhütte’snew alloy, ISA-CON®, solves all these issues. Produced as wire, the copper based alloy combines high electrical conductivity withhigh strength.

Absorbing high tensile loadsWith a minimum of 414 and 1,400 Mpa, respectively, they have a significantly higher tensile strength than copper with 200 Mpa.ISA-CON®1000+’s minimum tensile strength is even more pronouncedthan copper coated stainless steel Staku, with 700 MPa.

Good electrical conductivityAnother important feature is the electrical conductivity.ISA-CON®414 comes very close to copper with 90% IACS in an annealed state, and with 60% IACS, the high-strength material ISA-CON®1000+ is well above the widespread Staku wires with 40% IACS.

Avoid cadmiumISA-CON® is a RoHS-compliant material which can replacesimilar cadmium-containing materials. The high-strength materialISA-CON®1000+ contains the alloying elements silver and zircon. Both wires can absorb elastic energy in high tensile loads whileremaining optimally conductive. They also offer a high degree ofhardness, are corrosion resistant, and retain their properties evenat high temperatures over long periods of use.

Typical applicationsTypical applications of ISA-CON® are for signaling and overheadlines for railways and automotive cables as well as rivets and screws. It is of growing importance in energy supply, the production of energy, management and data transmission due to the versatility it offers.

In the digital world all things need clearly to be identi-fied, and with the help of laser radiation, plastics and powder-coated surfaces can be marked—fast, accurately, durably, and with razor-sharp precision. No more wasted time looking for the right cable in a pile, an unreadable expiration date, or blurred text on a product package – these situations can be avoided by using laser marking technology. Practical applica-tions include serial numbers on electronic components, barcodes on animal ear tags, best-before dates on food packaging, and scales on medical devices. Iriotec® 8000 products fulfill the highest requirements

placed on high-tech laser applications. Compared with similar marking technologies, laser marking is an environmentally friendly, durable, virtually indestructible and counterfeit-proof method of inscribing plastics. Invisibly incorporated into the polymer, laser additives of the Iriotec® 8000 series unfold their special properties under laser influence: they turn laser radiation into color and create “light that writes”.

Huber Engineered Materials offers a broad line of high-performing halogen-free fire retardant additives to exceed the needs of wire and cable compounders and producers. Huber’s expertise is designing and produc-ing alumina trihydrate (ATH) and magne-sium hydroxide (MDH) flame retardants and smoke suppressants and Kemgard® engineered molybdate compounds to meet the most demanding requirements of our customers. Huber’s halogen-free fire retard-ant additive product brands include Hydral® precipitated ATH; Hymod® surface-treated ATH; Micral® ATH; Vertex® MDH; Zerogen® MDH; and Kemgard flame retardants and smoke suppressants. Hydral precipitated ATH products are designed to have high purity and low conductivity. This allows them to be used in the insulation layer and in jack-eting compounds for wires with varying volt-age requirements. In jacketing compounds, Micral ultrafine ground ATH can be an economical alternative to precipitated ATH. In wire and cable jacketing applications where a higher processing temperature is necessary, Huber’s Vertex 100 SP and 100 SV surface-treated magnesium hydroxide products are ideal solutions. Zerogen 100 SP is a new magnesium hydroxide product introduced to offer improved mechanical property balance and enhanced electrical and color performance benefits when high temperature wet electrical properties are needed. Especially in high performance wire and cable applications, chemically treated ATH and MDH products offer these advan-tages compared with untreated products: Improves dispersion uniformity, Higher throughput rates, Enhances flame retardant performance, Increases color stability and Improves physical properties and electrical performance (lower conductivity). Kemgard engineered molybdate compounds are ideal smoke suppressants used for plenum cable jacketing to meet the smoke requirement

The software reduces prototyping iterations and costs by allowing engineers to simulate

cable performance prior to prototyping and lab measurements. Cable design details are entered through the graphical interface or by reading Excel spreadsheets. Built-in libraries of frequency-dependent materials and object definitions are used in cable construction and can be easily customized. Enhanced design features include Pair Advisor (calculates conductor and insulate diameters for a selected standard) and Lay Length Advisor (optimizes lay length values for data cables to minimize NEXT). The ca-ble cross section is automatically extruded by the software producing a 3D cable model showing rotations, pair twisting, and customized insulation colors. OptEM Cable Designer’s built-in EM field solver analyzes high frequency skin and proximity effects in wires, eddy currents in shields, and di-electric losses in insulation. Including these effects is crucial for accurate analysis and modeling of copper cables. On output the software provides ASCII reports for LRCG parameters, and plots S-parameter data for RL, IL, NEXT, FEXT, ELFEXT, and PS-NEXT and PS-FEXT. The firm’s flame-retardant (FR) and smoke suppressant technologies have enhanced the performance of wire and cable compounds that are already the leading PVC-based low-flame/low-smoke products for plenum applications. Four grades in the Fireguard line of plenum cable compounds exhibit oxygen indices from 49% to 51.5%. Shore C hardness levels range from 80 to 90. See table for property data. These grades are: Fireguard 910A-72-NL for jacketing “hybrid” insulation in Category 5e and Cat-egory 6 unshielded plenum cables; Fireguard 910A-76-NL for jacketing “hybrid” insulation in Category 5e and Category 6 shielded plenum cables; Fireguard 910A-79-NL for jacketing of RG6 coaxial cable; and Fireguard 910A-80 UVF-NL for jacketing of indoor/outdoor fiber optic distribution cables. In NFPA 262 flame tests, these compounds generate lower

levels of smoke and flame spread than any generically similar compound in the market-place.
