An additional goal is to assist employees with developing new skill-sets, helping to reduce injury and/or damage. Topics include: 1. Personal Protective Equipment – proper fit, use and care 2. Chainsaw Safety Features – pre-cut checklist and chain break test 3. Starting technique and use of chain break during operation 4. Maintenance – air filter, carburetor adjustment, chain filing, bar guide maintenance etc. 5. Reactive forces – knowing the forces of a spinning chain, body position and stance 6. Boring technique – hands on 7. Notches, back-cuts and hinge wood – key to precise directional felling 8. Hazard Assessment and management 9. Cutting and/or felling plan – Assessing weighted leans, obstacles and choosing an escape path – hands on 10. Spring pole – removing stored energy safely – hands on 11. Removing Limbs and bucking – proven techniques for a hazardous operation Instructor: Jay Wheeler Since the early 90’s Jay has trained just about every possible user, including professional loggers, high school forestry students, OSHA Inspectors and woodlot owners. Use the form below to request a class and we will come to you. The class is limited to 10 people and a site with 6 – 8 trees to cut is required.
