Disassembly

CIRCLE REVERSE GEAR CASE

Galion graders with power circle reverse areequipped with a cricle reverse gear case and ninepiston hydraulic motor.

For service procedures on the nine piston hydraulic motor, refer to the hydraulic section.

The hydraulic motor is flange mounted tothe circle reverse case.

Remove the six socket head capscrews (1)and separate motor from circle reversecase (2).

The circle reverse worm is coupled to thehydraulic motor shaft (1) by a keyed typesleeve coupling (2).

Remove capscrews and cap (1).

Carefully preserve shims (2) as these areto be used during assembly to preload taperbearings under cap.

Remove case lid capscrews and case lid (1).

Taper bearing cup (2) can now be removed ifnecessary.

Remove cotter pin and nut (1) from circlereverse shaft assembly (2).

Press shaft assembly (1) out of gear (2)

Circle gear and shaft are taper fit withkeyway and key.

Remove circle gear (1) and bearing assembly.

Bearings (2) may be serviced at this timeif necessary.

Remove worm gear cap screws and cap (1).

Remove shims (2) with care and tie to capwith string.

Do nothing to change thicknessthis time.

Press from motor flange end, the worm gear(1) and its bearings (2).

(

The cap end bearing cup (3)of cap end as shown.

Motor flange end bearing cup (1) may now beremoved from the gear case.

Bearing cup (1) may be removed by pullingup and out of its seat.

The oil seal (2) may be removed by pressingout the bottom side of the gear case.

Assembly:12

Install bearing cup (1) if previouslyremoved or if replacement is necessary.

Install new oil seal (2).

Install bearing cup (1) if previously removedor if replacement is necessary in motorflange end of case.

Install worm gear (1) with both taperbearings (2) installed and bearing cup (3)in circle gear case.

Install end cap (1) first without shims (2)and take up on capscrews until bearingsbind slightly on rotation of worm shaft.

Measure this gap between cap and case.

CAUTION: Be positive that all bearing cupsand bearings are in their trueposition before completing thisadjustment.

Add .002 to .004” to this measurement andinstall shims (2) in like amount under cap (1)and tighten capscrews securely.

Press bearings (2) in place on circlegear (1) and install in case.

Check keyway (1) in shaft assembly andkey (2) for serviceability.

Check the fit of one to the other to insureease of installation.

Do not install key at this time.

Install shaft assembly (1) in gear casethrough oil seal and circle gear and blockin place securely.

Align keyways, insert key, install nut,and torque to 250 ft.—lbs,, minimum.

Replace cotter pin.

Installcover.

Position filler and breather holesaway from worm gear as shown.

MANUAL

InstaLl cap (1).

Take up on capscrews until bearings bindslightly on rotation.

Measure cap-case gap and select shim package(2) to give zero endplay with no appreciabledrag of bearings on rotation.

Install woodruff key in worm shaft.

Tap coupling (2) in place.

Install gasket (3) on motor and mount ongear case with drain hole in positioncorresponding to grader’s piping.

Tighten socket head capscrews securely.

Complete unit ready for installation.

Fill to level plug on side of case withrecommended lubricant as indicated onunit’s lubrication chart.
