Unique HalterBuilding upon the ever increasing demand tofurther improve thermal efficiency, Rigidal hasdeveloped the unique ‘Thermohalter”. Utilising aresin based material originally developed for thespace industry, thermal transmission through thehalter is virtually zero, achieving a part ‘L’ compliantsystem which provides 0.25 ‘U’ values as standardand with 0.2 and 0.16 also available. In addition, the exceptional thermal efficiency of the

Thermohalter allows the systemheight to be reduced, bothimproving the aesthetics andreducing overall constructioncosts still further.

Widths/dimensionsZiplok is available in threestandard widths of 300, 400 and500mm. In addition, Ziplok can

be produced in non-standard

widths at any size from

240mm to 580mm, providing a

very cost effective way of

finishing roofs and also

allowing laying of the sheets

to take place from both ends

of the roof simultaneously. It

also allows designers the

freedom to choose the module

width or even to mix widths

on a single roof.

Cost effectiveAs the layout of the liner sheeteffectively sets out the halters

on site, Ziplok is particularly quick and easy toinstall when used in conjunction with theThermohalter. In addition the design ofThermohalter means that the Ziplok sheet snapsonto the halter and therefore does not have to bezipped one sheet at a time, so increasing thespeed of construction still further and providing anexceptionally user friendly and cost effectiveconstruction.

If required, Rigidal Ziplok can also be provided as abar and bracket system using Corogrid as thespacer system.

An advanced zip-up standingseam roofing system withunique halter design

Rigidal Ziplok is a BBA approved, advanced ‘zip-up’ standing seam system that creates acontinuous weathertight roof. The side laps arezipped up in conjunction with a unique haltersystem that is fixed directly to the supportingstructure without penetrating the externalweather sheet. This method ofsecret fixing creates astructurally sound roof thatgives excellent resistance towind uplift with outstandingaesthetic properties.

The Systems ApproachZiplok typifies Rigidal’ssystems approach to roofing.By offering a complete range ofcomplementary products, weare able to ensure compatibilitybetween components, andmore importantly ensure thatwe provide a roof whichperforms according to itsdesign criteria in all respects.

Apart from the benefits of onestop shopping, the completeapproach to the whole systemis the only way that theintegrity of that system can beguaranteed, or that it can beshown to have compliance withthe ever more stringent Building Regulations andTechnical Standards.

Other benefits of buying from a single sourceinclude being able to eliminate problems of colourmatching or other incompatabilities, since we areable to ensure that fascias and accessories areproduced from the same batch of coated coil asthe top sheet. More importantly, the systemsapproach enables us to calculate variations interms of acoustic properties and thermaltransmissions to suit different applications, aswell as loading capabilities, impact resistance etc.

This is sufficient to prevent the possibility of waterentering the building via the junction with the gutter.

At hip and ridge positions, the profile can beturned up to form an apex dam across the width ofthe panel. This detail and the standing seam sidelap detail is then overlapped by the verge.

Secretly FixedRigidal Ziplok features a secretly fixed truestanding seam side lap detail which provides acontinuous weathertight roof and excellentprotection in all weather conditions.

Long LengthsRigidal Ziplok is available in very long lengths andcan be rolled on-site where sheet lengths exceedthat which can be delivered by road. Thiseliminates the need for end laps and consequentlythe potential for water ingress.

The unique design of Rigidal Ziplok addresses theproblem of leakage without an over reliance onsealants or a myriad of components.

Roof failure is the largest single source of litigationin the UK construction industry. Rigidal ZiplokSystems overcome the many issues that canseriously impair the performance and lifespan ofmetal roofing systems.

No LeaksLeaking roofs are accountable for more roofingdefects than all other issues put together. Secretfixing to avoid water penetration via the primaryfasteners is a step in the right direction, but falls along way short of providing a complete solution.

• Approximately 90% of all reported roofleakage is experienced within 10% of the totalroof area at perimeter details.

• Regardless of the degree of fall on a roof slopehips, ridges and penetrations can all be asource of water ingress.

• Eaves/gutter junctions and verges on lowerroof pitches can also become points ofwater entry.

Perimeter DetailingWater ingress at perimeter details is avoided byoverlapping and interlocking the upstand seams ofRigidal Ziplok sheets. This ensures that any wateris directed towards the eaves and not back intothe building.

For low pitch applications the eaves overhangon the topsheet can be turned down to increasethe angle of run off by approximately 20°.

Outstanding Structural PerformanceStructural performance is another major factorthat can result in roof failure. Again Rigidal Ziplokprovides an ideal solution to the most commonlyexperienced problems.

Wind UpliftRigidal Ziplok standing seam roofing systemsprovide excellent resistance to wind uplift due totheir unique fixing method. The thermally brokenhalter firmly secures the roof system to thesteelwork below. The strength of this joint andfixing detail is completed by ‘zipping’ the side lapstogether to create a secretly fixed roofing envelopewith outstanding structural performance.

A Complete Roof Envelope

A full range of integrated fascias, gutters andflashings are also available providing thedesigner/specifier with a complete ‘one-stop’roofing solution. Made to individual specifications, all are designed to complement the outstandingaesthetic and performance standards of RigidalZiplok. Factory assembled rooflights and a fullrange of of fasteners and fixings completes thecomprehensive package.

Rigidal Ziplok System Options

ThermohalterRigidal’s unique Thermohalter can be used inthe traditional Rigidal Ziplok system withoutcold bridging through the system. The linersheet acts as a template for settingout the halters on site, making this system not onlyworld beating in termsof performance butalso very costeffective, quick andeasy to install.

Bar and bracketIf required, Ziplokcan be used in a barand bracket system, wherethe traditional aluminium halter ismounted on a galvanised rail which inturn is mounted on galvanised brackets.Rigidal recommends Corogrid as the bar andbracket system in this application.

Rigidal Ziplok System Options

AcousticsRigidal Ziplok is available in numerousacoustic systems. By using a varietyof insulation thicknesses anddensities a whole host ofperformances can be achieved.

The standard 0.25 U valueconstruction also achieves better than40dB sound reduction. By utilisingperforated liner or deck in conjunction with a highdensity layer of insulation, significant soundabsorption can be achieved. Three layer systems canbe purpose designed to achieve a combination ofboth sound absorption and sound reduction. Ouracoustic systems are regularly used in schools, residential projects, sports halls and hospitals.

Structural deckStructural decking offers a simplified method ofconstruction by dispensing with the need forpurlins. The structural deck is used tospan the portal frames of thebuilding, thereby usingfewer components andgiving clean lines to theinterior of the building.

Decking can benon perforated, web or fullyperforated allowingacoustic requirements tobe accommodated within thissystem.

Rigidal also offer a range of structural liner trays, both solid and perforated, which while normallyused in wall applications can also be applied in roofapplications where a flush interior finish is required.

Rigidal Ziplok Tapers and Curves

RIGIDAL ZIPLOK - Zip-up standing seam roof system

TapersRigidal’s Ziplok panels are available rolledtapered, with the UK’s first tapering machine.Previously, any tapering of sheets had to becarried out by cutting and welding taperedblanks then roll forming, with the inevitablelabour costs which this incurred. The state ofthe art tapering machine is believed to be theonly one capable of rolling tapers in a singlepass from coil, and allows the production oftapered sheet at a similar rate to parallelsheet. The roll former is also mobile, allowingtapering to be carried out on site if required, which in turn means that, unlike ourcompetitors, the length of tapered sheet isno longer restricted by transport orproduction capability.

Tapers can be from a minimum width of240mm at one end to 580mm at the otherend, on sheets with a minimum length of3.5m and up to any length maximum.

Tapered sheets will self curve to a 40mradius and can be machine curved to 20mradius if required.

CurvesRigidal Ziplok can be curved in a variety ofoptions to suit the required application. The profile can be concave, convex or waveshaped, incorporating both curves in onesheet.

Profiles will self curve to a large radius, otherwise they can be mechanically smoothcurved down to 4m radius convex curves or8m radius concave curves. If required, profiles can be crimp curved down to600mm radius.

In all cases, the micro ribbing of the Ziplokprofile helps to produce a clean, crisp curvedappearance.

In conjunction with Alliance WarrantyManagement, Rigidal Systems is able to offercomplete system warranties which insure the

completed roof for an agreed period under the QA+ GuaranteeScheme.

No premium is directly payable by the client or the main contractoras this is covered by Rigidal Systems pricing policy.

The process by which a warranty is arranged starts at design stagewhere the architect should specify that the QA+ Guarantee is tobe in place. This will require that the roofing contractor is to bevetted, approved and part of the scheme. All drawings will bevetted by the main contractor and work will be inspected at variousstages during the course of construction. On completion, the

warranty will be issued, confirming that the whole roof system andall components have been vetted and approved.

An important aspect of the service is that it ensures that onlyRigidal’s first class components find their way into the roofingsystem, where often components can be substituted by inferiorproducts. The vetting process also ensures that any potentialproblems of design or workmanship are identified at an early stageand rectified before completion of the roof, so ensuring that anyproblems with the completed project are less likely to occur in thefirst place.
