We’ve had an unbelievably exciting nine months working alongside Rihanna
to help make her designs a reality. From seeing her initial sketches back in
July through to watching her storm London Fashion Week last month, we’ve
enjoyed every minute of what has led us to this: the launch of the first Rihanna
for River Island collection of 2013.
We’re sure you’ll agree that Rihanna’s first foray into the creative side of fashion
shows her talent for design and her undeniable eye for great style, so you’ll be
pleased to hear that this spring collection is the first of four available this year.
Before we tackle what’s yet to come, though, let’s get started with what you

Initial collection idea sketches
presenting her collection to the industry’s finest at London Fashion Week; a feat Rihanna described as “a real privilege” and “a dream come true”. This brings us to today and arguably the most important milestone in the Rihanna for River Island journey so far: the collection release. Rihanna’s final word on the spring range? “I don’t want girls to have to try too hard. I want them to get up, get dressed, walk outside and look fierce.” We hope that’s how you’re looking, right now.

“I’VE WANTED TO DESIGN MY OWN FASHION LINE FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW. IT’S BEEN SOMETHING I’VE THOUGHT ABOUT SINCE I STARTED REALLY LOVING FASHION AND GOT PASSIONATE ABOUT IT… TEAMING UP WITH RIVER ISLAND AND DESIGNING CLOTHES FOR YOUNG, SASSY WOMEN WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO DO.” And that’s exactly what Rihanna did. By combining inspiration from her personal fashion archive with fresh takes on separates with a chic and laidback aesthetic, Rihanna designed an ambitious 56-piece range for spring. This long-standing desire to produce her own line stems from Rihanna wanting to create “the perfect things” for her wardrobe and her fans: “I designed every piece in the collection so I could wear it and I think my fans trust my style so they’ll have fun with it.” These perfect things range from wardrobe essentials right through to very exclusive Limited Edition pieces, which are only available in selected River Island stores across the globe.
