November is when we consider our Stewardship for the next year. Stewardship is

our commitment of time, and talent, and treasure.

Time: we consider our worship and devotion given to God. How often will we

worship and hear God’s Word, and pray, and receive the Gift of the Sacrament?

There is a tendency for people to worship less often. Will you commit to worship

regularly again this year?

Talent: we consider how we will use the gifts God has given us. Will we use our

musical talent, organizational talent, teaching talent, leadership talent, mainte-

nance talent to further God's kingdom work this year. Are there other talents we

have been given which can be used for God’s Kingdom work?

Treasure: we consider our offering. Our budget for 2014 will be in the area of

$265,000. This commitment of dollars allows us to hold worship services, provide

communion, baptisms, Sunday School and Confirmation. We are able to provide

visits to those in hospitals and retirement homes, conduct funeral services, have

Bible studies and fellowship events, and much more. What portion of the

$265,000 will we be able to provide out of our resources for the coming year?

We invite every member to consider our Stewardship for 2014 this month. In-

cluded in this Newsletter is a pledge card. We ask everyone to look at this and

prayerfully consider your Stewardship response.

We ask that during the month of November you would return the pledge card in

the offering plate. Or keep the card as a reminder of your Stewardship commit-

ment for the coming year.

Thank you for your faithful Stewardship.

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them

well to serve one another.” [1 Peter 4:10]

Caring For Our Neighbors

Reminders to be thankful and to share our blessings and abundance are all around during the month of November. It is right then, that we remember the hundreds of people the “New Life Center” serves by providing them with warm clothing. Items can be new or used as long as they are clean and in good condition. Please place them in the “CART”. We will also be collecting items for the “YWCA Unique Boutique”-gifts of all kinds, Christmas wrappings, bows, etc. There will be a box by the Church office. WELCA will also be asking for your participation in the “Thank Offering” ingathering. These gifts are sent to the Synod office in Chicago. Your envelope for this is in this issue of Pont’s Ponderings.” After shipping a large amount of soap to LWR in October, we are ready to start over again. The “Blue Bin” remains by the Church office. Please pray with me --

“Dear LORD, thank you for another new day - may I live it with faith and joy in my heart. Extend my hand to those who are hurting and in need.” Amen.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

On behalf of LWR and the many other agencies we

support, I want to thank the countless numbers of people

in our congregation that have responded to the many

appeals.

On October 16th, with the help of Del Sanders, Steve

Albertson, Grant Magnuson and Pete Stangeland who did

the delivery, we shipped: 94 LWR Quilts; 56 School Kits;

15 Health Kits and 100 pounds of soap. We also made 4

quilts for our graduates, auctioned off one quilt for $200

that will help us buy quilting supplies, made and gave

away 3 baby quilts.

Through the monthly “CART” projects, we have

supported several needy agencies. This includes Churches

United for the Homeless, Luther Hall, Nokomis Child Care

Centers, New Life Center, YWCA, Minnesota Food Share

and the Emergency Food Pantry.

WELCA

November 5th, at 1:30 pm WELCA will meet in the Living Room for their annual business meeting including the

board reports and Naomi Circle will be giving the devotions and offering mediation. The “thank offering” will be

given, which goes to support the National Organization. The envelope for this is included in this month’s mailing.

Prayerfully consider giving to help support this organization.

Mark your calendar for our annual Advent Tea on December 3, 2013, at 7 PM. A special evening of music, devotions

and fellowship is planned as we prepare for the Advent Season. This is a very special time for all ladies of

Pontoppidan.

The WELCA Board has established a fund to purchase paraments for the sanctuary. The family and friends of

Florence Thune have started this fund in memory of Wallace Thune. Anyone wishing to contribute are welcome to

do so. Thank you.

During the 2011-2012 school year, 7,907 in the Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo school districts qualified for, and greatly relied on the free and reduced school lunch program to meet their daily nutritional needs. But on the weekends, many of these children struggled with hunger.

Hunger amongst our children can have lifelong and extremely costly consequences. Hungry children suffer physical, emotional and developmental impairment. They are sick and hospitalized more often. Hungry children don’t learn as well at school, which in turn, limits their potential and productivity as adults. Adults who experienced hunger as children are often not as well prepared mentally, emotionally, physically or socially to perform in today’s work environment.

Designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations, the BackPack Program, operated by the Great Plains Food Bank, is tested and proven effective in alleviating childhood hunger.

The program is simple:

Students are recommended for the program by teachers or principals who see first-hand their nutritional needs

Backpacks are filled with food that children take home on weekends or school vacations

The food is child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed

Backpacks are discreetly given to children on the last day before the weekend, holiday vacation or summer break

With the support of volunteers, donated kid-friendly food and purchased food acquired through the Great Plains Food Bank at a reduced price, it currently costs just $4.25 to feed a child over the weekend which includes a juice, milk, fruit, four meals plus snacks. The cost to support one child throughout the school year (38 weeks) is $162.

Top 5 BackPack Program food needs: All varieties of small juice boxes, all types of granola and/or breakfast bars, fruit roll-ups, applesauce or assorted fruit cups, and

individual servings of microwavable meals (Spaghettios, ravioli, pasta, etc.)

The impact this program has on hungry children is great!

82% of teachers report improved concentration among participating students

90% of teachers report less hunger related comments on Monday morning

87% of parents report health improvements among their children

79% of students report being less hungry on the weekends

Please bring your donations to church November 3!
