RINL bags CII– ITC Sustainability Award 2012 · Great encouragement for RINL collective –CMD, RINL · 41% of the total land has been earmarked for afforestation Hon'ble President of India, Sri Pranab Mukherjee, presented “CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2012” to Sri AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL-VSP at a glittering function held at Vignan Bhavan in New Delhi today. Commendation Certificate for “Strong Commitment”given for RINLs sustained focus on CSR, environment aspects etc. Sustainability Award 2012 instituted to identify and recognise industries for their exemplary performance in Economic, Environmental and Social dimensions by the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development. Sri AP Choudhary, CMD said that this award is a great encouragement for RINL collective at this juncture to meet the future challenges. RINL believes that the ability to integrate Sustainability with business outcomes and the ability to manage and live up to the expectations of stakeholders is the key for its success he added. On the environment front, RINL-VSP’s operational efficiency and overall excellence has won many accolades like “3 Leaves Rating” by Centre for Science and Environment under the Green Rating Project, “Excellent Water Efficient Unit" award by CII. RINL’s strategic initiatives have always been drawn with focus on Sustainability that has helped the Company to consolidate its business and emerge as the most sought after steel maker in the country. RINL pioneered in adoption of green technologies, with an investment of Rs 1283 Cr (10% of the total project cost) on pollution control systems and utilization of waste energy in the ongoing 6.3 Mt expansion and through other modernization projects. 41% of the total land has been earmarked for afforestation with the motto “One tree for every ton of steel capacity”, which has been followed meticulously since inception. RINL is ensuring an integrated approach for Sustainable Development across the value chain to improve resource efficiency, minimize the impact of its operations on environment and promote the well-being of society, through its well defined Sustainable Development policy.
