The RiverHawks (5-14, 3-9 MIAA) will go on the road to face rival Central Oklahoma Bronchos
(13-8, 6-6 MIAA) on Feb. 5. UCO is 8 in conference play this year and this will mark the first
meeting between both teams this season. The RiverHawks look to improve as a team as the
season is almost nearing its’ end.
NSU is coming off a home stretch seeing the RiverHawks winning contests against Emporia
State and Washburn, before losing to Pittsburg State 66-76 in a hard fought battle on Jan. 28.
Trey Mohair, junior RiverHawk guard, said some of the positives out of the loss against Pitt
State was the team rebounded the ball a lot better and kept the game close. Mohair also said he
is looking forward to the team playing better as a whole and making strides to compete to get a
chance to make the conference tournament.
Mohair is currently playing 27.9 minutes per game this season, and putting up 8.9 points per
game, 2.6 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game for the RiverHawks.
The coaching duo of Head Coach Jason Tinsley and Assistant Coach Jabarr Adams continue to
prepare the RiverHawks for the matchup ahead with the Bronchos.
Adams said if the RiverHawks can play hard all game long, shoot the ball well, rebound and
don’t turn the ball over they will have a chance to compete and win against UCO.
“It’s going to be a tough game down at UCO and it’s going to be a brawl,” said Adams
The true test this game is how the RiverHawks will contend against the Bronchos, who are
averaging 81 points per game and maintaining opponents to 73.4 points per game.
Tinsley said if the defense can contest the Bronchos offense and prevent them from making
shots, as well as scoring on the offensive side and win the rebound game, the RiverHawks have a
shot in this game.
Tip-off for the RiverHawks and Bronchos is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 5. The game will
be played at Hamilton Field House in Edmond, OK.
