Terrence Fogarty's collection of prints is more than just
a nostalgic remembrance of the roots of hockey in Minnesota. His collection is also a reflection of the joy and wonder kids across the state experience when they meet their friends at the park, clear off a pond, or start a street hockey game in
a snow packed cul-de-sac.
The "pond hockey" experience of playing outside is a big part of the fabric of community based hockey
and MN hockey culture.
Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!

6 Life Lessons From The Cubs in the 2016 World Series
By: David Jacobson
David heads PCA's marketing communications and content efforts. David has coached his children and many others from elementary school into high school in baseball, softball and basketball and has officiated baseball, softball, basketball and flag football. Culture eats strategy for breakfast is a mantra at PCA, driving the way we build and maintain our organizational culture and the way we help school and youth sports organization leaders do the same. Culture is key for the Cubs – from the Ricketts family ownership team upgrading facilities for the players, to the patience with Theo Epstein’s five-year plan to the hiring of Joe Maddon, who creates the Cubs’ clubhouse culture. “Pressure is a privilege” – a phrase coined by Billie Jean King – morphed into Maddon’s “Embrace the target.” In the wake of the Cubs’ surprise 2015 playoff success, Maddon’s take on King’s quote echoed from day one of spring training, emphasizing to players that they were in position to achieve greatness and should not shy from the challenge but run toward it. Keeping it fun is another key. Maddon did. Right down to scheduling travel and workouts after Game 5 in a way that let players go trick-or-treating with their kids and encouraging the players themselves to wear costumes for the flight to Cleveland for Game 6. You never know who will come through. So keep the Miguel Montero on your team engaged and ready to contribute (maybe with a grand slam). And find a role on your team for a Grandpa Rossy, who may not show up in the box score every day, but who helps your Anthony Rizzo mature into a team leader, who then sheds tears of gratitude for his mentor in front of five million fans. Anyone can lead. Even a Jason Heyward, batting .150 in the World Series, may have the right stuff to step up – say, during a rain delay – and make a speech that galvanizes your team. Sports are joyous. Don’t you hope every youth athlete during every play every day in youth sports wears the same goofy grin as Kris Bryant as he fired falling down over to first base for the final out?

Giving Tree at MYHA-Let’s Give Back!
This year, MYHA will be giving back to our Moorhead community by having ornaments available for sale in the concessions stand to decorate the lobby Christmas trees. Ornaments can be purchased for a minimum donation of $1 each or 6 for $5. We encourage you to write a special Christmas
message or simply write your name on the ornament.
Free will offering to the giving tree will also be accepted. 100% of the pro-ceeds will be donated to a family or families in need in our community.
Know someone in need this Holiday Season? Please drop off your request to the MYHA office. Check the News Feed or the lobby bulletin board for info!
A HUGE Thank You to all the parents that have come
to Dave’s Southside Tap to support the MYHA
Tuesday Bingo Events.
Several Parent Coordinators have made it a part of their team
bonding experience by organizing BINGO nights out.
This is a great way to get to know your fellow parents and support
our organization in the process.
If you have not made it out to Dave’s yet, it’s a fun night!
And Remember, IT’S FOR THE KIDS!
Finding Your “IT”…..
What an exciting time throughout the community. Teams have been
picked, practices are in full swing, and now the fun begins.
With the Spuds, we try to emphasize getting a little better every day. For us, it is imperative. Like all high school programs throughout the state,
we have a limited amount of time together. As a result, every day is important. Although it seems obvious, it is hard to do. With all that happens throughout a day, it is hard to stay in the moment and take
advantage of every opportunity to be your best.
The most effective people are not only great when they feel 100%, they work through days when they do not seem to have ‘it’. It is really easy
to dismiss bad days and chalk it up as a loss. It is much tougher to take a deep breath, focus on what you can control, and try to get a
little better with every opportunity. The best players and teams find a way to find ‘it’ day in and day out.
In the end, those are the teams that everyone is watching in March.

MYHA Tournament Worker Requirements Policy 2016-2017 Season
*This policy replaces the former Volunteer Policy and any volunteer hours*
Hosted Tournaments profited over $100,000 over 13 events last season. This season we will host even more tournaments, a total of 16. We host tournaments as a way to keep your registration fees down, as well as providing a weekend at home without travel expenses. Because tournaments are essential to our association, working our tournaments is now a requirement. There are no exempt positions from this requirement. If you have a child playing in Moorhead Youth Hockey, you will work your assigned tourna-ment, or tournaments if you have children on multiple teams. A deposit of $400 will be collected at registration as your commitment to working your assigned
tournament shifts. Your deposit check will be held by Moorhead Youth Hockey (not cashed) until after you have worked your assigned shifts.
The Tournament Director(s) will ASSIGN team member families to adequately cover the shifts required for that tournament. Families can expect to work about 4 shifts, but this will vary based on the roster size of the teams assigned and the needs of that particular tournament.
If you are unable to work your assigned shift, it is YOUR responsibility to find a replacement. If you, or your replacement, does not show up to work your shift, or if you do not fulfill your job
duties, your $400 deposit check will be cashed immediately.
It is not the intention of Moorhead Youth Hockey to cash deposit checks. We would rather have everyone work together to provide a fun and exciting tournament atmosphere for the players.
If questions, contact Corey Delorme at [email protected] or Tim Kolehmainen at [email protected]
