GENERAL REMARKS

Individualized systems for every application

Fronius offers system solutions. Long-lived and highly

cost-effective welding systems are just as much a

part of this as are individually customized planning,

advice, corrective maintenance and servicing. The aim

is perfect welding results and a high level of customer

satisfaction. The MIG/MAG robot torches from Fronius

make a major contribution here. They are available in

both gas-cooled and water-cooled versions, and – as

needed – either with or without Robacta Drive, the

extra master drive on the 6th axis of the robot.

Many different lengths of hosepack are possible,

as are special, customized torch-body geometries.

For welding-tasks anywhere between 170 A and

700 A. It goes without saying that the individual

system components are all designed for optimum

interoperability and specifically tailored to the type

of robot concerned. Whatever your welding application,

with Fronius you will always find a whole world of

solutions.

The whole wide world of robot welding torches

ECONOMY

Cost-savings and long endurance times

When it comes to economy, the list of criteria fulfilled

by Fronius welding torches is a long one. It begins with

their high-grade wearing parts and spares, which are

responsible for a high level of system availability, and so

it finishes with measurable savings – on gas costs, for

instance.

Precision, robust contact tubes

The contact tube plays a key role in welding torches.

A Fronius contact tube is made of high-grade copper

alloy, ensuring a long service life. What is more,

measuring 10 x 40 mm (0.39” x 1.57”), it is very

generously sized, and so can dissipate the heat very

effectively, and ensures stable contacting. Other

features of Fronius contact tubes include the precision

tailoring of the diameter to the wire, and the centricity of

the bore.

Loss-free gas feed all the way from the cylinder to the nozzle

On the gas-cooled torches, considerable savings are

possible just from the gas feed arrangements. The gas

is routed down a single hose, in one uninterrupted duct,

all the way from the gas cylinder to where it flows out

of the torch. This prevents any gas leakage and saves

up to 10 % of the gas costs. There is also a separate

duct for the gas in the torch body itself – so gas cannot

escape to the rear either.

The electromagnetic cleaning system Robacta TC Cool cleans

welding spatter from the gas nozzle without touching it. The cleaning

results are consistently good, and the service life of the gas nozzle is

prolonged.

The 10 x 40 mm (0.39” x 1.57”)

Fronius contact tube dissipates the

heat very effectively and ensures

stable contacting. Its service life

is enhanced by the high-grade

materials and precision methods

used in its manufacture.

Wearing parts that stay cool live longer

The better the torch body is cooled, the cooler the

wearing parts will remain and the longer their

endurance times will be. The Robacta welding torches

make an excellent job of this. Also, the gas nozzle and

contact tube are much easier to clean when less spatter

clings to them – and the cooler these wearing parts can

be kept, the less spatter adheres.

Being touchless, the Robacta TC Cool cleaning system

provides a particularly gentle method of cleaning. The

spatter is removed electromagnetically, meaning that

no damage is done to the surfaces of the wearing parts.

Robacta TC touchlessly cleans the torch in automated

steel applications. The surfaces of the wearing parts

are not damaged, and the lifespan of the gas nozzle is

prolonged – with consistently defined cleaning results

every time.

WELDING PROPERTIES

Meets all the requirements for an ideal weld process

The quality of the welding torch has a critical influence

on the weld process as a whole, and thus directly on

the welding quality. So when it comes to your torches,

why put up with anything less than the best?

What are the key factors making for a perfect welding

process? Prime among them are the contacting, the

wire guidance and wire travel, the gas-shielding, cooling

and ignition, the welding operator and the flexibility of

the hosepack. And Robacta takes the best possible

care of all of these.

Contact guaranteed

On water-cooled welding torches, the forced wire contact makes sure that the welding wire is guided into the contact tube at an exactly defined angle. Dependable current transfer is the result, even when using bulk pay-off packs where the curvature of the wire would otherwise impair the wire guidance. Another positive result of the forced wire contact, incidentally, is a boost of up to 100 % in the contact-tube endurance time.

Why not go for something better?

Metal transfer

Spatter-free ignition

The forced wire contact ensures dependable current transfer.

The weld process becomes more precise, and there is less

wear-and-tear on the contact tube.

Wire travel with no margin of error

When it comes to wire travel, the water-cooled Robacta

models have any number of features to make sure that

the wire gets to where it is needed without the slightest

margin of error. Like the digital actual-value pick-up,

which causes exactly as much wire to be available as

the system requires at any given moment. The result is

spatter-free ignition and high-quality weld-seams.

Another feature is the drive rollers, which are

intermeshed so that the force is transferred to both

rollers simultaneously. Their diameter of 23 mm (0.91”)

makes them as much as 50 % larger than conventional

feed rollers. This guarantees optimum force

transmission at all times, with less risk of slippage.

What is more, the rollers provide 4-point contact

support for the wire as this is run through a specially

shaped groove. This brings a – measured –

30 % improvement in force transmission.

More drive for soft wires and long hosepacks

In addition to the wirefeeder, with Robacta Drive there

is also a powerful, highly dynamic DC servo motor

mounted on the 6th axis of the robot. As well as

providing perfect ignition properties (SFI), this master

drive also reliably stabilizes the entire welding process.

No matter whether you are using small hosepack radii

or soft wires such as aluminum or copper-silicon, the

push/pull operation is an equally effective guarantee of

precision wirefeed in either case. Superior quality, after

all, is something that results from the interplay of many

different factors.

Robacta Drive has an extra

wire-drive. This ensures

precision wirefeed even when

using soft wires and long

hosepacks.

Uniform force transmission from intermeshed drive rollers.

23 mm(0.91") The wire is held at 4 contact points in the drive rollers,

and so is fed reliably and without slippage.

HANDLING

Quick and uncomplicated

In automated applications, every second counts.

Whenever a wearing part needs to be changed any-

where, this has to be done quickly. The quicker, the

better, in fact. And with Robacta, everything has been

developed and tested to be quicker still.

On Robacta Drive, on both the gas- and water-cooled

variants, fast, troublefree wireguide changes are not

just mandatory – they’re guaranteed: press, pull, insert

– that’s it. For the first time in welding history, this

makes it possible to change the inner liner without long

downtimes. In the space of just a few seconds, in fact.

On the gas-cooled welding torches, the big issue is all

about changing the gas nozzle. And with QuickSnap,

this is now a split-second job. It’s much faster than

screwing the gas nozzle on and off, and fixes it on just

as reliably – with a mechanical locking mechanism. The

other advantage of this is that the gas nozzle always

stays in the same position.

When the time comes to change the torch body, this

also needs to be done very quickly. For this reason,

the torch body is clip-fitted, and is easy to lock. It is

manufactured with such precision that after it has been

changed, the TCP remains unchanged, to within a range

of +/- 0.2 mm (0.008”). In addition, the Robacta testing

device is used to check Robacta torch bodies for any

dimensional discrepancies. Precision re-adjustment of

the torch bodies is thus possible in a very uncomplica-

ted way.

Efficient in every way

Changing the inner liner is a quick and easy job.

This prevents unnecessarily long downtimes.

Press, twist, change. With QuickSnap, changing the gas nozzle

is so easy, it’s “a snap”.

The torch body is clip-fitted, and is easy to lock.

Changing it only involves a few simple steps.

SYSTEM

A first-rate system for every power level and every application

Fronius offers ingenious system solutions for

all power classes and robot applications. The

spectrum ranges from gas- and water-cooled

welding torches to push/pull-systems, and even

to hosepacks integrated in the robot arm.

Hosepack either on the outside or integrated in the robot arm

Fronius offers the ideal system solution for

welding-robots with integrated media guidance.

The hosepack runs directly inside the process arm

of the robot. Here, it is kept safe and protected,

also providing better accessibility in all welding

positions. Otherwise, the hosepack can be routed

on the outside, parallel to the robot arm.

Systematic wire guidance for every material

On Robacta, the wirefeeder is mounted on the

3rd axis of the robot. The wire is constantly and

accurately pushed forward. For very soft wire

electrodes, Fronius has developed a second

wirefeeder: Robacta Drive. This is mounted

directly on the frontmost axis of the welding robot

as an additional master drive, and is integrated in

the torch. It ensures absolutely uniform wire travel,

making for the very greatest precision in

the welding process.

Gas- and water-cooled systems

Fronius offers gas- and water-cooled robot-

welding torches. Water-cooled welding torches

are given optimum cooling. This prolongs the

service life of the wearing parts, making this a

highly economical solution. A big “plus” of

gas-cooled welding systems is that they need

less maintenance. They also make applications

at below 250 A economically feasible. The choice

between gas- or water-cooled will also depend

on other factors such as the stick-out length,

pulsed-arc mode or the type of shielding gas.
