Robin Thicke:

Blurred Lines.

First:

• - When researching this particular research video, immediately throughout the first shot it is apparent that the writing over the shot connotes a big, over the top necessity all about the singer (the man) with no reference to the girl. As we flash on to the next shot it is clear to see that the male is invading the females personal space. He covers the girl to not only show his protection, but without a reaction to it, the girl is in Thicke's control.

Secondly:

• - The next two shots show another singer (being male) with a different girl. The girl is holding a small lamb, presenting the audience with the idea that she is an animal to and the singer being the owner. This is enforced through the girl being in his control along with the male then looking down at her in little clothes, giving approval of his possession.

Then:

• - The fifth shot then goes on to show all three singers with all three girls. With all the shots being straight on and being quick shots, it allows the video to show the male authority throughout every scene. In this case, the three women are in small, white clothing. This contradicts the provocativeness of small clothes with the connotation of innocence with the white. It is also apparent to the audience that none of the men are in white, mainly black dark clothes. This is emphasisedthrough the white background and once again contrasts with the innocence of the women.

After:

• - As we move on to the next two close up shots of two different females, we can see that both girls are wearing red lipstick. This once again highlights the provocativeness of the girls to attract men also supported by the theorist Laura Mulvey - The Male Gaze. In the second close up shot of the brunette female, the girl whispers 'meow'. With this being portrayed to the audience, like the other girls, it highlights the animalistic characteristics given to her by the males and being their possession. It also highlights the wanting of the girl to be a possession.

After That:

• - The next shot moves on to one of the singers looking down at once of the girls in her small clothing. With that invading her privacy, the female is also giving the features on show to him, allowing women to be degraded which may not send out a good message to female girls or boys, attracting wrong ways to behave.

Then:

• - The next two shots once again emphasise the possession of women. We have a female bending on a floor in a very seductive way, once again in small clothing. With a red car rolling on top of her it shows two of the males possessions together even when he isn't apparent, showing his mass control over most things. The next shot has a different girl sitting down having her hair brushed, this highlights her as being animalistic and without hesitation to what is happening, it shows her want and like of the possession and care of herself.

Finally:

• - We then move on to the last two shots to which the girl is in no clothing but covering what is left of her modesty with an oversized foam hand, this implies that both the male and female review this whole situation as a game. The final shot shows the main singer blowing smoke into the girls face, this would be aggrevating for anyone, but with both recognizing the place of the women and being possession she has to put up with this, the male acknowledging that she would, even in discomfort.
