    EvanescenceTheyre back!

It has passed ve years sincethe release of the Evanes-cences last album calledThe Open Door; but now,the rock band from LittleRock, Arkansas, which wasfounded by the singer/pianist

Amy lee and guitarist BenMoody,is back with its newalbum self-titled Evanes-cence

    and with

    new perma-

    nent members.

During 17 years, the bandhas changed its originalmembers, for instance in2003 Ben Moody left theband in the middle of Fallentour, then in 2006, bassistWill Boyd also left the band

and nally in 2007 both gui-tarist John LeCompt anddrummer Rock Gray left theband. However, these chang-es werent an impediment torelease the new album. Withits current members: TerryBalsamo as lead guitar, TroyMcLawhorn as rhythmic gui-tar, Tim McCord as bassist

and Will Hunt as drummer,Evanescence achieved torenew its style that was criti-cized many times for its mix-ture between new metal andgothic rock. Were denitelya rock band, but the twist isthat the bands music is epic, dramatic and dark rock said

Amy Lee about music style of

    the band.

After selling 17 million cop-ies of its rst album Fallen,Evanescence won two Gram-mys Awards and took a breakafter the album The OpenDoor(which sold more than6 million copies). In June2009 Amy Lee announcedthat the band was in progress

to create new material. Witha couple of incidents that de-layed the work, is conrmedthe release of What youwant on August 9th, 2011,rst single of its homonymousalbum,Evanescence. Theworld tour began in October2nd with the presentation in

Rock in Rio festival (Rio deJaneiro) and the album wasofcially released on October11th.Talking aboutlyrics andmelodies of this album, AmyLee said: Its motivating my-self not to be afraid. Im writing

about the chaos of life and thatyou cant control all the crazythings that happen to you.

Twelve tracks full of newchords never listened before;powerful guitars, dark atmo-sphere and the most importantingredient in melodies: AmyLees voice. What you want,Made of stone, The change

three strong songs that talkabout bad luck in love, ragefeelings and determination togo ahead.

. My heart is broken the se-

    cond single released on October

31 is a song about the sadness

to say goodbye in a love re-

lationship. Its follow by: Theother side, Erase this; the

    melancholic Lost in Paradise

and the potent Sick which quo-

te: Sick of it all sick we are of

this bottomless pit of lies behind

    close eyes Finally, End of

    the dream, Oceans, Never go

back and to close this spectacu-

    lar material: Swimming home,

a soft song with a nostalgic es-

sence where Amy Lee shows us

all her talent playing the harp.

The album is also available in

    a deluxe version, which inclu-

des bonus tracks. What are you

The theory supported by some soci-ologists is that rock music became quicklypopular because is closely related withsocial movements and its critical point ofview against society makes us elect thisgender as our channel of expression. Oneof many examples is a British rock bandcalled The Sex Pistols, they were verypopular in the 60s because their criticismagainst Queen Elizabeth II.

Another good example is an Americanrock band, Green Day who made a songin order to express their disapproval toGeorge Bushs government. It was calledAmerican Idiot.

Some psychologists say that weprefer rock music because we want to lookand express that we are different from theestablished society in which we live in.In addition, psychologists afrm that thesearch for identity and the tendency to berebel it is very common among young peo-ple. In fact, they talk about a stage thatall we have to pass during our adolescenceand rock music expresses the denial to ac-cept normal standards of behavior properof a society.

From the point of view of consumerism, the different record stores seem to be the

Green Day, taken from the DVD Bullet in a

    Bible

most beneted by peoples rebel feelings, since this stage of rebel and social criti-cism seen to be very striking for us, manyrecord stores make money becoming fa-mous some adolescent bands and sellingus a fake image of what rock should be.

Also, it seems to be that image is all, cur-rent bands do not care about writing goodslyrics, and they just care how many peoplehave bought their discs. In fact, this iscalled commercial rock good image, badlyrics.

In my opinion, the rude and rebel rock weremember every time when we listen toThe Sex Pistols or The Beatles does notexist. Today we jus t have an industrial-ized rock, which obey the laws of money,

in which is more important the beautyand clothes of a band than its musicalstyle or its lyrics. But I know that there isstill hope to the real rockers.

    Earphones: Rockzines Review

    They do not need

    introductions

That question would be answered by the German rock band, Rammsteinwho talks about it in its album Liebe its r alle da or in English Loveis or everyone. Rammstein is a well-know band among rock music: it hasquite hard and shrill sounds, and thrill appearance on stage. This last albumwas mostly released in 2009 around the world. As it is common and new at

the same time, its powerul guitars in its songs, and with new criticism tohuman sexuality; Rammstein has become one o the most important rockbands in 2010. This new album has explicit content about how human beinggets the meaning o love: painul, sweet, platonic and carnal.

The production has been very controversial rom the point o view o reli-gions and some organizations in Asian countries, which are very conserva-tive. However, i we think about the meaning o those lyrics, we will get thathuman beings action are bitterly cruel and people will always care abouttheir needs without knowing the damage they do. The human race has not

understood the implicit meaning o love, loyalty and fdelity, so Rammsteinshows it in this great album, which has got its odd style o music and obvi-ously Rammsteins shocking appearance on stage.

Apart rom lyrics, music is very important in this production; both work atthe same time and coordinating their abilities. Music and lyrics are mixedup in only one structure which want to say: be careul with love. In the songIch tu dir weh (I hurt you, or example) we can hear, see and eel what

we should get rom what we call loveand the harmony between your soul andmusic meaning.

We should see urther than we usuallydo with music, so that we can under-stand these new tendencies, and whythey are appearing that we are living;they explain our world in a dierentway; how we are dealing with what wecall Our world.

I would like to recommend this albumor people that want to make a changein people who are looking or happinesswho use music to fnd it out and to fg-ure out what sort o mess we have donein our extremely short lives.

Im sll here. I have been trying to gure out how to get o from this depressed place. I cannot

imagine my reacon, when my friends were next to me praying because I think I transformed into

a sort of monster while I connued with the rite. Everyone had such condence in me. I hardly

know how it escaped from my hands; Im sll an expert on the subject.

I beg your pardon. I have not introduced myself yet; my name is Ma Struthers by the way. Im

    23. I love hard rock music. I think is amazing, all those strong and disturbed melodies hing my

ears the whole day really make me feel like God. During my life, I studied Tarot cards, numerology

and movement of stars owing to I do not believe in the bloody and superstar God, so I have been

driving my life as the favourite Platos disciple. In my childhood, dad abandoned me with my mom

into a bungalow near Nongham while we were sleeping in a hard old brown bed. Aerwards,

she went away too, so she le me adri. At that me, I was 16 years-old, however in my mind I

was like a man that would be around 30 years. From that point onwards, everything changed.

I met a beauful French girl who took me in with her parents and relaves. The French girl is 20

years-old and her body was full of taoos: over her arms, back and even her breast; she really

drives me crazy. I know that she loves me; in consequence I decided to live with her, here in Lon-

don. The spectacular tall white girl that Ive said is called Lorraine and lives in a small thirty-age

coage that looked quite old and destroyed, it seemed to be tucked away. I had a feeling rather

strange about that house: there had been killed 4 people.

Inside the house were almost nine people living in six rooms, which were spread out 3 rooms in

the rst at and the three upstairs. The house had a deep grim atmosphere, which I began to like

while I was brought up there. Lorraine used to enjoy a lot with those strange cases of abnormali-

es unl the event that happened three hours ago. For instance, she loved to call spirits or phan-

toms which were walking around into house; she inserted me that bad habit. She and her family

had arrived at London because they were looking for a new life and they had that property, but

that ideal was farther than they had imagined. Every night is heard a low and shrill sound straight

on the main door that stood me on end when I arrived at that special place.

    -Paf!.

Exactly at 3:00 AM, the parcular sound was heard in. Lorraine and I were sleeping together in the

same bed, so she heard the same thing as me.

-God damn it! That cat is driving me crazy!

Each night Lorraine groaned at the bang. I know that it was no cat because I waited for it 3 nights

inside the lo and when I realized about that, I told her:

-Oh dear, why dont you believe me? - and aer that I sang Oh darling wrien by the

Beatles to ease the environment. She never paid aenon to me and got angry though. Neverthe-

less, I was telling the truth, I mean, there was no animal into the lo;. As I inured myself to that

abnormal thing, I began to learn how to discover and show it to my darling. I had no fear.

I thought about something in order to show and demonstrate Lorraine my beliefs, then in a garage

sale, I found an old scratched purple Ouija. All my life, I wanted one of those strange games, which

people classify as satanic or diabolic; I do not believe in thoughts like those. Perhaps I am quite bi-zarre, but now it doesnt maer. One of my favourite songs of a hard rock band talks about Ouija

like a gate between the other and this world; I agree with them. Although this ouija was very very

parcular that I had ever seen, this had something special, this had bloodstains on it.

When I arrived at home, my girlfriend was waing for me outside the home:

    - Where have you been? Horsing around? She said

    - I hardly know, darling I always pull her legs

    - Im not kidding! What the hell is that? She discovered what I carried on my hands

    - Ill show you what I have said to you during all this me about the bloody sound. To

night we are seeing what has disturbed our nights, especially you I recite.

    - No, no, are you sure? You know that I love topics like that... I didnt want to believe

you because I didnt know that you were so obsessed she laughed at me.

    - So darling, shall we do it? I hugged her by the waist

    - YES! She emphasised her answer by kissing my forehead.

She had never experienced a spirit calling before. She called spirits by doing meditaon, praying

and stu like that, but she had never done it before. I was a bit scared, but Im very brave.

Before the beginning of the rite, I had begun to analyse the rite board. As I said, it had blood

stains on some of the leers which were around of the wooden corners. It looked amazing. If I

would never have fear in paranormal things I had never touched that strange game that, by the

way, it had on the cover of its box in which it was wrapped that it was a game for children, I didnt

    understand.

It was night at 10:47 when I and Lorraine begun to dress things up so as to prepare the strange

rite. The night was bierly cloudy and it was about to rain. I invited some friends because of the

extreme rite; they like these abnormal things too. While my friends were arriving at Lorraines

familys house, where I also lived, we had made a party. Suddenly, it was already 3:00 am and the

    sound was heard.

    - Paf!

    - What was that? Charles said to me with a terrifying face.

    - Do you mean the sound? I replied him- Exactly!, we havent begun yet - he laughed - But this house is loaded with spirits.

    - You what? I knew that he was a kind of sighted person, so I believed in him

    - Just that man. Now I feel someone standing next to you

    - How is he? I asked Charles

    - Its she, my friend He was trying to focus on her

    - I can see... Oh God Charles cried out she has been murdered, her face is totally

destroyed, but I can see that shes got long blond hair, tall and bony legs and small

    hands.

-Go on please, go on! I realized about something

    - Ermmm, I cant see her perfectly

    - Bloody hell I grumbled

    - Ok guys...

I started having some interest in what my friend saw, so I called everyone to sit on the oor and

leave their things anywhere. Lorraine sat next to me and my friend on the other side.

    - So, lets begin, right? I said to everyone.

I read last night the catalogue while Lorraine was sleeping. It was so simple; the rst two steps

were: light some candles and put them with the purpose of enclosing yourself. The second part

    was the hardest: praying.

As Lorraine knew how to pray in order to call any kind of soul, she began the rite and I helped her

doing what the catalogue said. Everyone followed her. I was surprised enough because I had never

seen her doing that kind of things, I just knew it though. Some minutes later, the air became to

blur my eyes, so I could not see at all; everyone seemed like me, but some of them were abso-lutely intoxicated.

Front then on everything changed. I felt quite sick and red; Lorraine went on without stop be-

cause I told her that; my partner Charles fainted on the oor, I didnt know why, but he was lying

there: totally thrown into confusion. The turbulent atmosphere had been thrown into confu-

sion the most of my friends; I realized in that moment that they didnt have their all senses, but I

egged Lorraine on. As I said, I was geng worse and worse when suddenly lights went o. Every-

one woke up totally adri and Lorraine realized that something bad had happened to me.

I praccally fell asleep and Lorraine noced about that; I know this because I heard her crying

and her relaves surrounding and asking her what had happened, but she tried to wake me up

and Charles too, however I couldnt do anything anyway because something had taken my body.

I started to shiver; I was praccally unconscious, but when I saw my mother standing in front of

me, I paralyzed completely. I tried to call her, but she didnt hear me, so I do it again, and she said

Son, go back!!!, I didnt hear her clearly though. Lorraine prayed again and again, but I know

that I had no reacon over what she was doing. There was no turning back. I entered into a state

that no person knows because no one had been where I was: The Krupshaka: you cant go away,

you cant escape, you cant do anything... It is rather alike a dream, but a bit blurry. My mother,

my father and two Lorraines grandparents were the people that were with my mother and the

people killed there; they explained to me that that house was hired by my father to Lorraines

grandparents and when my mom, once she had le me alone, put a bomb inside the coage and

killed herself and who were inside it, she got insane, so that explains the sound at 3:00 pm; the

world is too bloody smaller than anyone can think.

Being here during 3 earthy hours, it feels like years, now I can see my darling doing impossible

things to rescue me, but I cant say so. I love her, I want to return because I have got fear: Im ab-

    solutely scared.

We have always heard that music is one of the most

successful ways of expressing our feelings along

with painting or poetry. As human beings, we need

a way of expressing ourselves. In my life, I have

never known someone who does not like music.

We all have our favorite band or singer, our favorite

music genre... Our favorite song. Do you know, dear

reader, someone who have ever told you I have

no favorite song or somebody who havent got

excited when they hear a song in the radio? Music

evokes memories and sensations. Music can take you

to the sky or put you down in blue with just a few

moments. If there is something in common with all

of us is we all love music.

We have CDs, DVDs, MP3s, memory sticks and

cellphones lled with music. We always listen tomusic made by anything else. In this way, we are

able to know the person and we are able to know the

surrounding world. But what about us? Wouldnt it

be great to express throughout music? Are you able,

dear reader, to make your own music? To write and

to put music on your songs? If so, youre cool.

But today Im writing for talking about piano. Piano

    PianoD...and Chilean Education

Society values piano as an instrument in rock music...But, what about the value of piano as a teaching

    instrument?

is an instrument which is very well known for

starring the main classical music pieces. You can

look in Youtube music by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven

and almost the 50% of their music contains at least

one chord of piano. In 17th century, piano was used

for common social meetings and for elegant piano

concerts, as well. Pianoforte is a derivation of the

harpsichord and the clavichord. Would you like toknow how a piano works? Sorry, I wont tell you.

Thats a topic for another page. But I can tell you

that grand pianos (or pianoforte, the real name)

are like giant guitars and when you hit a key, a little

wooden hammer hits the strings. Thats basically

(very basically) how a piano works. Piano is a

simple, but complex instrument, as you can see.

We cant see the tremendous mechanism that is

activated when we touch a key.

If you have a grand piano or an upright (vertical)

piano, use it, explore it. Youll nd theres a

lot inside your good old piano. Theyre a little

expensive, but technology has given us a solution:

    electronic piano.

Electronic piano started being produced in the

1950s by manufacturers like Wurlitzer and brought

revolutionized people who can now afford not a

real piano, but an electronic version of it. Because

of this, many musicians of the 70s like Genesis,Yes or Elton John started including electronic

pianos and synth in their songs and that gave us the

primitive and 8-bit but amazing sounds we hear

    nowadays.

Now we have been inserted into the whole piano

thing, we can make a detour and talk a little bit

about something we dont like. Do you remember

those tiring music classes at school? All those

quarter, half, at, key signature concepts

which are taught in school are kind of boring forthose who dont like music. Yes, at least, Chilean

government forces music teacher to teach all these

things, and they have to deal with the dilemma

of how do I teach all this and keep the students

    awake at the same time?

I suggest that piano would work as an excellent tool

for teaching music in a very interesting and funny

way. I mean, not a pianoforte, but a keyboard.

We already talked about keyboards. Instead of

buying unnecessary things or giving unnecessary

money bonus for the principals, the money of the

government should be inverted in the core of the

school: the students. We know it. Most of us, when

we were students, saw how the teachers took the

best part of the government incentives. Why not

to buy a couple of keyboards for the school? Wehave watched on TV, many talents that come from

the poor neighborhoods of the city and with the

effort of a very poor family, we have nice people

who have made career abroad like the Master

Claudio Arrau: the biggest pianist in Chile.

If only the government might worry a little bit more

about the great talents losing in a sea of reggaeton,

Argentinean cumbia and pelvic movements, this

country would have a plus in culture. We must

admit that some teachers have started using guitars

and utes as instruments for didactic purposes,

but the keyboard offers more options of sound and

    more options of performance.

Music can soften beasts as the saying goes... and

you will agree with me when I say we ght against

many beasts nowadays. If only we let music be part

of our lives, we will be able to build a better society

and a better future for our children and grand

    children.

These Sigur Rs guys have made it again! Along with the success of Me su eyrum vi spilum enda-

laust (With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly) (2005) and Heima (Home) (2007), theyve recently

    released Inni (Inside) (2011).

In this edion, well take a look at the beginning of the band: When they were nothing but a garageband and when they made concerts in lile Icelandic pubs and bars. Comparisons between old looks andnew looks and, of course, the same inspiraonal music and a new surprise for all of us, fans of this band.

Sadly, Inni wont arrive in Chile except for special web purchase. The hipster style of this band, the recessof the band and the great expectaons of possible concerts in Europe and Asia, raised the price of thealbum, which is around US$ 40 (about CLP$ 20000).

The direcon of this project was in charge of Vincent Morriset, who has worked before with Arcade Fire, among others. This lm was recorded in a digital high denion format and transformed into 16mm for-mat, then was projected and re-lmed for giving the videos a special texture and giving us a dierent ex-

    perience of a bands DVD

Heima had other contents, dierent from Inni. When rst was even a tourisc guide of Iceland and (al-most) a DVD made for Greenpeace, this is absolutely nothing but Sigur Rs. For me, this is the absolutecollecon for those who want to have something to talk about and to share with other fans.
