It may have been early April, but the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for Cole and Kelsi’s big day. The beautiful roses, sunny blue skies, and a stunning couple all came together to create a dreamy Montana wedding. It

was a gorgeous setting to witness such deep love as they said their vows in front of friends and family. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Schram!

Crisp, winter mountain air paired with the perfect Montana barn created the look of this styled

Kali & AdamBig Fork

9.2.2013

Kali and Adam said “I Do” under a gorgeous blue sky on a sunny Montana day. Being from the stunning mountain

town of Big Sky, the couple decided to be married on the banks of Flathead Lake with

its relaxed environment and water backdrop.Kali and Adam enjoyed a full week of activites and adventures with

friends and family who came to celebrate the big day with them! The wedding

included a surprise serenade from Adam to his new bride that had the whole wedding in tears. The night capped off with the most

perfect sunset over Flathead lake!

Page 23: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

rockymountainbride.com 21

The theme: Kali chose “Montana Chic”, for her wedding style. She used elements of the woods and lake to create a true Montana enviroment for her guests.

The colors: The color palette was mossy green, sea green and pale blue with ivory accents.

The dress: Kali wore a fitted champagne dress with a lace bodice overlay and mermaid flair at the train.

Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

Page 24: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

22 rockymountainbride.com

The flowers: Kali carried a brooch bouquet with family-collected brooches instead of the traditional bridal bouquet. Bridesmaids had bunches of baby’s breath for a soft, full look that matched their pastel dresses. The centerpieces were a combination of branches with white feathers, moss and air plants to accent the lakeside feel.

The favorite detail: Kali’s favorite detail wasn’t hard to guess. Once the groom pulled out his guitar to serenade her with a song he wrote, Kali couldn’t hold back the tears!

The sweets: The couple chose a gorgeous three-tiered cake covered with rustic birch bark made of fondant on the outside, and a vintage cake topper with the classic bride and groom on the top.

Advice for RMB Brides: Enjoy your time with your guests! Invite the people that mean the most to you and spend time with them. This is your moment to be in the spotlight, but also your time to spend with friends in an amazing setting. Share your surroundings and your destination with those who might not be here a lot, especially if you’re a destination bride.

Sabine & EvangelosLivingston

Sabine and Evangelos live in Stuttgart, Germany, quite a few miles away from the Rockies! After falling in love, and an engagement at the Eiffel

Tower in Paris, they planned an elopement to Montana, and a valley

named Paradise seemed like the perfect place! On a fall afternoon, they met to say their vows to each

other under the big western sky. The two celebrated with a couple of close family members and enjoyed every

minute of their Montana elopement.

9.11.2013

Page 29: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

The theme: Sabine and Evangelos kept the theme simple - love!

The colors: The color palette was white, with touches of orange, yellow and pale greens.

The dress: Purchased in Stuttgart, Germany, Sabine loved her Enzoani ballgown.

The flowers: Sabine kept the flowers local - choosing colors and varieties from Montana such as pale greenery, full white hydrangeas, and pops of orange and yellow ranunculus.

The favorite detail: The old tree, weather-beaten and full of history is where they chose to become Husband and Wife. The couple saw so much beauty at that location. Also, their wedding ended up being very different from how they imagined it!

Advice for RMB Brides: Choose a private little place, have the ceremony YOU want and enjoy every moment.

MeetElle’s Belles

“Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.” Ernestine Ulmer

The ladies at Elle’s Belles couldnt’t agree more with Mr. Ulmer! When it comes to baking, Elle’s

Belles is passionately devoted to the art and awe-inspiring tastes of each sweet treat they craft. They do not have a storefront, but their cookies and desserts are carried in the local

markets and coffee shops of Bozeman! They can also ship and deliver their sweet goodness right

to your front door!

How did you get your start?

I created Elle’s Belles in late 2003 and it turns out, the creations we bake have been wowing critics and customers ever since. Since it’s inception, cookies have been delivered to local restaurants and markets all around Bozeman, even before the bakery really took off. All of our goods boast the freshest and finest ingredients possible. Each of our cookies, cakes and cupcakes are hand crafted with love.

What goes into your baking?

Elle’s Belles has become known for its commitment to quality and dedication to baking perfection. I obsess over ingredients and artfulness. I am passionate about creating custom wedding cakes and custom batch order of yummy goodness. Each of my creations is unique for each client, as I strive to create baked goods that fit their personality, event or imagination.

What are some of your most popular designs & creations?

Our cookies of course! But seriously, our sugar cookies make their appearance at every holiday and occasion. Our favorite is probably the state of Montana cookie with the heart right where you want it – whether it’s Bozeman or the location of your destination wedding. They make such a great party favor for each of your guests.

Danielle & AndrewBig Sky

Double your chances with love? Danielle and Andrew certainly did! They were lucky enough to meet each other twice

before calling it love! Danielle may have pretended she didn’t remember Andrew from the first meeting, but after their first

date, they talked everyday since. Friends and family gathered to watch their vows

under a big bue sky and danced the night away celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs.

8.1.2013

Page 35: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

The colors: Danielle and Andrew kept their color palette simple with lavenderand various shades of green.

The theme: As most lovely destination weddings are, the event was small and intimate. Danielle put a lot of thought into the day and had oodles of handmade elements, Montana touches, and fun travel details for out of town guests. She made passport invitations as an ode to their traveling lifestyle that guests loved!

The dress: Danielle wore a vintage inspired, fitted lace gown in ivory. The custom made dress featured an off the shoulder bodice with a floral sash.

The flowers: Danielle focused on simple lavender and white with little succulents to give texture and a green pop.

Favorite detail: The groom’s favorite detail? The handmade DIY nature of the décor. Danielle fell in love with her centerpieces and the bunting that lined the ceiling of the tent.

Page 36: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

The cake: Guest enjoyed a two-tier lemon cake with buttercream accents and a raspberry filling. The top was adorned with a custom topper from GooseGrease (etsy.com), and bunting to coordinate with the décor.

The food: Guest dined on Montana fare that consisted of chicken, fish and bison all crafted by the chef at Rainbow Ranch.

Advice for RMB Bride’s: Serve Bison! But seriously, Enjoy it! Your vendors are pros and there is nothing that could go wrong in such a gorgeous place!

The Honeymoon: The bride and groom had a staymoon in Montana - they headed to Yellowstone National Park in an RV for the week with the in-laws!

Ask an Expert

What is the difference between sugar flowers vs fresh flowers on my wedding cake?

Flowers really are a personal preference. In Montana, a lot of brides like the look of fresh flowers, leaves, lavender, fresh fruit, etc… They are beautiful and perfect; the only drawback can be wilting. At most, they are placed on the cake 2 – 6 hours prior

to the cake being cut. Gerberas, peony, hydrangea, anemone, ranunculus, poppies, and a few other varieties do not hold up out of water. However, there are several that do, including roses, calla lilies, the mum family of flowers, and succulents. An alternative, which ensures perfection, are

well-made sugar flowers. Hand-crafted sugar flowers can be as stunning if not more so than natural flowers, and are custom designed to fit the style of the event. They also stay exactly

where the cake designer planned them to be, and of course, they can withstand the unpredictability of Montana summers.

As a Montana bride, how do I plan for heat?

For many Brides, the cake is a centerpiece and a major part of the room’s decoration. If the venue is 74 degrees or above, the cake and fillings may be compromised if they are out for

long. An alternate location may be necessary to store the cake and keep cool prior to serving. If the cake must be out, arrange to have the baker deliver it just prior to the reception

or during cocktail hour. Or consider fondant, an edible, porcelain-smooth or decorative cake covering which can handle heat better than buttercream. Another good idea is

to check with your baker the week of the wedding to discuss potential weather or venue temperatures so you have a

plan A, B, and C.

What about frozen cake?

No one wants a cake that was frozen six months ago shipped in from Timbuktu. Bakers have many ways of ensuring their cakes are moist and delicious, and freezing can be a very useful tool. Freezing or refrigeration are ways for the pastry chef to ensure their cakes are moist, delicious, and intact

on the day of the event. A tremendous amount of time and attention to detail goes into every specialty cake. Other baked

goods, such as mini cupcakes, are always baked fresh the day of the event. All of my desserts are made from scratch, with love, from top secret recipes, using techniques shared

by professional pastry chefs around the world. The checklist I always use for my cake is: Is it freshly made? Is it moist? Is

it delicious? Is it beautiful? When it is, you have a great cake and very happy wedding guests.

Enjoy and thanks for your questions!

Dear Brides,Every wondered about details of ordering your cake? Well, here are some of those

questions answered. Our expert this issue is Elle Fine of Elle’s Belles Bakery in

Jenelle & NickLewistown

9.28.2013Nick proposed in the rain, in front

of a waterfall on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Juneau, Alaska. Jenelle had

stopped to capture the waterfall with her camera, and turned around to find Nick on one knee. Janelle and Nick

are from Butte, and chose to get married at a private residence on a

crisp September day with friends and family there to help celebrate. The

gorgeous fall sun came out just in time for their ceremony, and they all

enjoyed the perfect Fall evening for their wedding.

Page 55: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

rockymountainbride.com 53Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

The theme: Jenelle and Nick wanted their wedding to capture the warmth of fall. The bride and groom collected items that caught their eye all through their planning to add to the look, including a lot of rusitc woods and burlap.

The dress: It was important to Jenelle that she have a dress that she could move in and that would fit her non-girly personality. She chose a short crocheted dress with cap-sleeves and a boat neck. It had gorgeous lace detailing, and a scalloped hem that was her favorite detail .

The flowers: They wanted the flowers to be something that would last forever and would hold up throughout the day, so they went with silk. The flowers were a mixture of red sunflowers, cream roses, hydrangeas and wheat.

The desserts: The bride and groom really went all out on their desserts. They had three Bløtkake, which is a traditional Norwegian cream cake with jam filling and fresh fruit on top (strawberry, raspberry and peach), a Kransekake which is an almond ring cake. They chose to go with a traditional Norwegian wedding cake, topped with Lefse, a Norwegian flatbread.

The favorite detail: There were so many little details - the yard games that Nick made or Janelle’s grandmothers earrings that she wore. Jenelle also loved her shoes!

Advice for RMB Bride’s: Don’t lose sight of what it means to get married. It’s not about the dress, the guest list or the weather. It’s about joining two people who vow to love, protect, and grow together for the rest of their lives. That will happen with or without all the details…but don’t forget to have a backup plan, just in case it rains!

The honeymoon: The two travelers’ jetted away to Slovenia and Croatia for thier honeymoon!

Table Trends Seasonal Style

Vibrant Fall Outside tablescapes in the fall months are highlighted with the most beautiful amber light. Use the natural colors of the sun to inspire your table design! Stunning low rays are cast across the table, accenting the dinner plates and votives. A crisp white linen adds simple elegance, while allowing the color on the table to pop. A mismatch of dinnerware completes the look and gives it a causal feel that pairs

perfectly with the deep red and cool blue napkins.

Page 65: Rocky Mountain Bride Montana Fall 2014

My husband and I recently hosted a backyard wedding for our daughter. When she came to us with the request to get married in the backyard with a small barbeque reception I thought “sure, we can do this!” So the planning began…and so did the lessons on a truly Do It Yourself wedding.

One of the first lessons we learned was if your children think they don’t have many friends, don’t believe them.If you want it simple and easy, remember that you have to work hard to keep it that way. I found out that simple doesn’t mean easy, it just means skipping a lot of the traditional moments. It means stepping back and looking at what was really important to the bride. It also means explaining to the bride what was important to us and coming to a compromise. When we really communicated about their wants for the ceremony and reception we found out they really wanted a classic wedding just without some of the additions that most people come to expect as “tradition.” For example who says everyone needs flowers? I did. However, if the guys don’t want to wear flowers and the girls won’t be carrying them for more than a few minutes then why do it. A bridal bouquet for just the bride made it even more special for her.

During the reception a friend said to me, how honored I must feel to have my daughter want to get married at our home, in our backyard. I had never looked at it that way before. I had only seen it as the simple, easy way and now I do feel honored.

Hire a photographer! You will want

professional quality, not snapshots of the day.

Even if your friend has a great camera, there are a lot of things that go into creating gorgeous

images.

Tips for a Backyard “I Do” Making lists of what

needs to be done will help you answer that

question “what can we do to help?” with one

easy answer, “check the list.” I had many cooks in the kitchen literally and

figuratively.

Rent a large tent, tables and chairs, and plan

on a big enough tent to hold everyone. Make

sure to rent the sidewalls too, especially if you live in an area where

the weather is unpredictable.

Recruit your closest friends and family to help with day. You

cannot do it all by your-self. Hosting your own wedding doesn’t mean doing it alone, it means getting it done with as much help as possible.

Staymoon Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort

by: Alyson Roberts

Just outside of Paradise, Montana is a hidden gem. Like many places in Montana, Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort seems to be in the middle of nowhere, yet well within reach for the perfect getaway. Quinn’s is a quality resort that provides many of the amenities

couples love to have for a revitalizing experience after the buildup and anticipation of a wedding. More off the beaten path than other hot springs resorts in Montana, Quinn’s is the perfect escape for couples looking for a more low-key getaway all the

while surrounded in comfort and luxury.

During a stay at Quinn’s, guests enjoy access to the hot springs that make the resort worth even just a day trip. The four smaller pools are for luxurious soaking while the two larger ones are cooler in temperature. Moving from pool to pool without truly having to leave the water is one of the greatest pleasures at Quinn’s, letting guests enjoy each temperature for as long, or as little, as possible. During a soak, hop out of the water and visit the wet bar where swimsuit attire is welcome.

Quinn’s offers several different lodging types for couples, including newly constructed cabins right along the river. Each has a Clark Fork River-facing porch swing to enjoy the fresh air and sounds of rushing water while cuddling with someone special. The new-est cabins, still being constructed but opening every six weeks, offer the most luxury and privacy at Quinn’s. Many of the cabin options are adult-only, meaning that couples looking for a romantic getaway will find just the right amount of privacy.

Perhaps the best kept secret at Quinn’s is the phenomenal restaurant on site. The Harwood House Restaurant is fine dining without the pretense. The Historic Dining Room was built in 1948, and has since expanded to offer more seating while maintaining an authentic western lodge atmosphere. A dining experience at Quinn’s is not to be rushed and guests will have a hard time deciding on what to eat and drink. The wine list alone offers over 100 different types of wine, so the perfect pairing is certain to be found, whether guests pick the Garlic Crusted, Pan-Fried Wild Prawns or the Prime Rib.
