I IntroductionThank you, and congratulations on your choice of the RolandM-SE1 Sound Expansion Series. To take full advantage of theM-SE1's convenient features and extraordinary sounds, pleasetake the time to read this manual and the Sound ExpansionSeries Owner's Manual.

This manual explains the unique functions and built-in Patchesand Performances of the M-SE1, a sound module in the SoundExpansion Series. For details on how to operate it, or a list oferror messages, you should refer to the Sound Expansion SeriesOwner's Manual.

I Features• The M-SE1 sound module is dedicated to the production ofstring sounds. An extensive selection of sounds is included, andmany of them are designed to support the playing techniquesunique to string instruments. As a result, you can reliablyexpress the finest nuances of the sounds created by stringinstruments - whether you are producing a solo performance,or a complete orchestral section.• The M-SE1 offers two modes: the "Patch" mode (which is idealfor playing live), and the "Performance" mode, which is thenormal mode to use when playing the module using asequencer.• A "Legato Control" feature allows you to obtain a degree ofrealism for string instruments that has not before been available.• Comes with an effects processor (reverb and chorus), so youcan try your hand at applying a full range of modifications, andenjoy the sonic illusion of playing in a large concert haIl!• An input jack allows you to route sound from another deviceto this unit and have both be mixed, thus eliminating the needfor separate mixing equipment.• Offers a selection of sound mappings, so music data for theGeneral MIDI System/GS Format can be conveniently enjoyed.• Waveforms that have RSS (Roland Sound Space) effects arealso built in, so performances with a three-dimensional effectthat can't be obtained with the built-in effects are also possible.
