Introducing RolleChim Srl , Engineering and Main Contractor company with core business in

the design and supply of main equipment and turn-key plants for the chemical and

petrochemical's down-stream Industry.

RolleChim’s experience, developed since 1950, mainly involves process technology for the

production of Phthalic Anhydride from o-Xylene, Naphthalene or mixed feed.

Our process portfolio, moreover, has expanded over the years, including also technology

know-how for other chemicals such as Maleic Anhydride , Fumaric Acid , Formaldehyde ,

new-tech Phthalate plasticizers , Unsaturated Polyester resins , Acrylic resins , PVA resins and Sodium Silicates .

The high-level professional competence of RolleChim engineering ensures the quickest

response in analyzing and carrying out any proposed project inquiries.

RolleChim's activities are also supported by associated companies and workshops, leading to

the highest reliability for every supplied plant component and offering an outstanding service

for whatever mechanical or technological assistance the Client may need.

Anhydride production process technology and know-how.

The knowledge of PA process begins in year 1948, when the founder of the company Dr.

Albino Rolle, at that time owner of the equipment manufacturing company Rolle SpA, has the

opportunity to setup a small PA production plant for a company called Silna SpA, located in

Padova (Italy). Two years later Dr. Rolle becomes the owner of a second plant established with

a company called Carbochimital SpA (Italy).

After becoming PA producer Dr. Rolle focuses his best efforts on a continuous application for

plant improvements, both from process and equipment point of view, studying and developing

new catalyst formulation. Then, mainly due to commercial reasons, PA production dismissed in

1960, as well as PA catalyst production.

Nowadays the Company’s investments are oriented to achieve further development and

improvement of RolleChim's PA technology and key equipment design.

At present RolleChim is in the position to claim that many worldwide PA production plants are

running under its technology and know-how.

Our engineering Teams are in charge to coordinate every activity of any project, with time and

costs matching by the most appropriate project management techniques.

Modern informatic tools support the Engineering Department in all aspects for both process and mechanical design.

1948

Introduction of first Rolle PA Reactors leading to innovative technology with round-shaped inner tube instead of former design having square-shaped section

1956 Load up to 55 g/Nm3

Introduction of a new cooling concept by means of mixture of molten salts instead of Mercury. Rolle PA Reactors are manufactured having external salt pump for flow circulation and external salt cooler.

1970 Load up to 65 g/Nm3

Rolle PA Reactors cooling concept moved molten salts pump from external to the inner central-coaxial system, so ensuring along tubes a better thermal transfer coefficient, a more homogenous salts flow distribution and a more compact equipment.

1980 Load up to 80 g/Nm3

Rolle PA Reactors have achieved some other improvements on internal design with more efficient removal of the reaction heat from the catalyst mass. At the same time, great care is put on safety devices, such as rupture disks for safe gas relief, and salt leakage detectors to avoid any possible equipment damage.

Nowadays Reactor Design up to 120 g/Nm3 load

RolleChim has been developing the design of its PA Reactors in order to fulfil all present requirements of new high-performance catalysts up to o-Xylene load of 120 g/Nm3 for which concerns mechanical strength and safety aspects against possible explosions at very high o-Xylene loads. RolleChim engineering offices develop Reactor design with top essential informatics tools to carry out Finite Elements Modelling, CFD Fluid-Dynamics and Process Simulations to optimize both mechanical and operation parameters.

REDUCTION OF INVESTMENT PAY-BACK PERIOD

RolleChim design for Switch Condensers (SWC) started in the 70’s when the first series of

such equipment was sold to PA plant of Carbochimital SpA (Italy). Since that time many

improvements on Switch Condenser design have been implemented to increase PA

separation efficiency and to reduce energy consumption in oil circuit.

RolleChim began in the past an intensive Research and Development Program in order

to reach the best performances on its SWC. Results of this R&D activity take following

advantages to RolleChim SWC Technology:

� increase of SWC process performances in terms of PA Recovery and gas pressure

drop by optimizing internal configuration;

� improvement of heat transfer efficiency of the overall SWC's unit by process

simulation and pinch point analysis;

� increase of effective life time of the equipment.

In late 90's a new concept in RolleChim SWC was

introduced in worldwide market: multi-bundle design

and oil by-pass system. Such improvements led

RolleChim’s SWC's being claimed as the most

technological advanced ones. The performances of

these new SWC's give PA separation yield up to 99.7%

and energy saving up to 30% than others in the market.

In 2004, further improvements on manufacturing

procedure led having RolleChim SWC's 10%

lighter than previous models. Maximum pressure

drop is reduced to 400 mm H2O, so that allowing

also the best integration of RolleChim SWC's

along with equipment from other suppliers

located in the same condensation battery.
