CANDLE INTENTIONS:
Church: Lee Hughes
This Sunday we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity: one God in three divine Persons. By the grace given to us in the sacrament of Baptism, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwell in our souls and invite us to participate in their Trinitarian life and love. In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out his own disciples to make disciples of all nations and promises that he will remain always with us, even to the end of time.
■ FIRST READING:
First and foremost, God’s initiative on behalf of Israel is stressed. It is God who is revealed or rather, reveals God’s self to the people. It is God who chooses Israel. It is God who delivered Israel. All is God’s doing. “You must know” this - be aware of it - and respond accordingly. Don’t take God’s marvelous deeds on your behalf for granted.
■ RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Do we recognize our blessings? How blessed we are in light of all that God has done for us? Today’s Psalm names a few of the ways we can recognize God’s hand at work and experience his presence and power in our lives.
■ SECOND READING:
Being led... moving forward... not falling back... all in and through the power of God’s Spirit who draws us into intimate relationship with God. Ours is a journey into glory following the path through death into life.
■ THE GOSPEL:
The disciples have such contrasting reactions and emotions: obedience, adoration, doubt - all with which we can identify. The emphasis, however, is not on them but on the Lord who entrusts them - just as they are - with his mission to and for all peoples, Gentiles as well as Jews. They have his word of assurance: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20b).

WHY CHOOSE A CATHOLIC SCHOOL EDUCATION? Family and Community
A Catholic School recognizes the parents and family as primary educators and joins with them to form a living community of shared visions. • Catholic Schools help students understand that
each person is unique and valuable.
• Catholic Schools join with the family to help students understand their special place in the family, the Church, and society.
• Catholic Schools encourage family input and involvement in the ongoing education of their children. Research shows that such a partnership results in higher attendance rates and lower dropout rates.
• Catholic Schools strive to create a special bond among the students, the home, the school, and the church, so that all share the strong sense of community.
Every child shares in an educational environment filled with love and concern -- a community joining together to help create a better world.
St. Thomas the Apostle Mission Statement
The Roman Catholic faith community of St. Thomas the Apostle recognizes God’s call to be a sign of His Kingdom in the communities we serve. We respond to this call by:
† Leading people to a deeper relationship with Christ by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, renewal, education, the celebration of the Sacraments, and the worship of God in the sacred liturgy;
† Encouraging a commitment to justice and to service of those in need;
† Promoting good stewardship of our time, talent and treasure;
† Building a community of hospitality and support in the daily living out of Christian ideals by nourishing mutual respect and understanding within our Church, our families, our community, and other faith traditions.
June 17, 1939, Father Thomas J. Herron received the letter designating him pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.
Sunday, June 25, 1939, the first parish Mass was celebrated by Father Herron.
First Mass said by Pastor Fr. Herron in the tent June 25th, 1939. If you’ve ever heard the name the “tenters” used at St. Thomas, it comes from the early years where Mass was said in an actual tent!

PLANNED GIVING Here are some other ways You can help St. Thomas the Apostle Church continue its mission of serving God’s people. Give a gift of cash or check for general use or a specific purpose. Give a gift of stocks or bonds. There could be a significant tax advantage to you if there has been appreciation in their value and they are transferred to St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
A bequest in your will assures that your possessions are distributed as you desire. When making a bequest, use the full legal name and address: Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003
Make St. Thomas the Apostle Church partial or primary beneficiary of a life insurance policy that is no longer needed for family security. Ask the insurance company for the forms necessary to change the beneficiary or to transfer the ownership to St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Did you know Osteoporosis Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones. It affects both men and women. White and Asian women, especially those past menopause are at highest risk. It can be prevented with a healthy diet and staying physically active. To build bone and prevent osteoporosis get plenty of weight bearing exercise, such as walking. Eat a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. Quit smoking, it speeds up bone loss. Limit alcohol, it may decrease bone formation and absorption of calcium. Here are some precautions to prevent falls:
• Keep your home clutter free • Install grab bars on tubs and showers • Install proper lighting • Apply treads to stairs and remove throw
rugs
Is this too casual for church???
As you get dressed to go to Church ask yourself,
“...is it appropriate for Mass”? WWJT?
(What Would Jesus Think?)
During the summer we all enjoy a more relaxed mood, but let’s not go too far when it comes to dressing appropriately for Mass. One can dress to be comfortable, but in our air-conditioned church that should mean something different from what would be better worn at the pool or a picnic. It is a matter of respect - for God in His own house, and for His people gathered for worship. The standard should be neat, clean and modest.
SUMMER…
God our Creator, You have blessed us, As you do each year With the long, bright days of summer – Days when the sun rides high in the sky, And the light seems to last forever.
Thank you for these days – Days of warmth and gladness, life and growth.
Thank you for this tiny vision of celestial land, Which needs no sun nor moon; Where you and Chrost the Lamb, Provide continuous light, And never ending day.
- Peter Mead
