Beg Patt – Note – When changing colours in centre of row, twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of the colour just used, making sure both yarns are worked firmly at joins. Always change colour on wrong side of work. We suggest making bobbins from cardboard or purchasing yarn bobbins. To Make A Bobbin – Cut a piece of cardboard 5cm x 9cm and make a diagonal slit approx 2cm long in one side. Wind a quantity of yarn around cardboard and place end through slot to hold. RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT FACINGSWith right side facing, using 3.25mm circular needle and C1, beg above lower band knit up 184 sts evenly along right front edge to beg of neckband. Knit 1 row (foldline).Work 10 rows stocking st, beg with a knit row.Cast off loosely.Rep on left front edge, knitting up sts from beg of neckband to top of lower band.

TO MAKE UPPlacing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads. Join side and sleeve seams. Fold facings to wrong side at knit ridge and slip-stitch in place.

WOOLWIND/INTARSIA

This technique is used to knit blocks of different colours, avoiding the extra bulk of Fair Isle knitting. When using this method, you will need a separate ball for each section of colour. The different coloured yarns are twisted over each other at the join to prevent holes. Twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of the colour just used making sure both yarns are worked firmly at joins. Always change colours on the wrong side of work so colour change does not show on right side.
