Romulus/Remus

• The founders Rome were Romulus.

• The twin-brothers were supposed sons of god Mars and the priestess Rhea Silvia.

• They were abandoned by their parents when they were babies and put into a basket that was then placed into basket into the River Tiber.

• He was a Punic Carthaginian military tactician• Considered one of the greatest military

commanders in history• His most famous campaign took place during the

Second Punic War (247- 182 B.C.), when he passed the Romans off guard by crossing the Alps

• His father was one of the leading Carthaginian commander during the first punic war.

• Hannibal lived during the time of great tension in the Mediterranean, when Rome had its supremacy.

• In the second Punic war Hannibal won 3 dramatic victories in Italy.

• He held Italy for 15 years.

• Hannibal was decisively defeated by Scipio Africanus, at the battle of Zama.

Julius Caesar and Augustus

• Julius Caesar is one of ancient Rome’s most famous individuals (born in 100 B.C.)

• He was the first army commander to invade England (in 55 B.C. and again in 54 B.C.)  

•  Caesar was born into a wealthy family.

• After leading the Roman Army, Caesar began to have an interest in politics

•  Caesar became in charge of the Roman entertainment in 65 B.C.

•  He spent most of his money on entertainment.

• Augustus was the first roman Emperor (63 B.C. - 14 C.E.)

• Augustus was first named Gaius Octavius Thurinus

•  Julius Caesar was Augustus’ great uncle

• Augustus was adopted by Julius Caesar

• Young Octavius was adopted after Caesar’s assassination in 44 B.C.  

• Augustus became part of a military dictatorship.
