It really makes a difference to our meetings when we have good attend-ance and makes for a more

The wine labelling on the weekend at Langmiel Win-ery turned out to be a fantastic day in the Barossa and we could not have asked for better weather. Meetings - 21st—28th Oct

At a well attended meeting on 21st October we welcomed visitors Dennis from the Eastwood Rotary Club and his friend Marie who is keen to join a club but is looking around prior to committing. It was also good to see Peter O and Rosalien back after having missed them for some time.

Brenley informed the club of a BBQ on 9th November and appealed for a few helpers. The wine bottling is this coming Saturday—please let Linda know if you are able or wanting to go. Our meeting on Nov 11th is a joint Group 8 meeting so no morning meeting that day. And the club has decided to mark mental disability week by cooking for a Minda group on the morning of 3rd December..

Don introduced guest speaker Andrew Ramsay, son of member Bob and general manager of Alz-heimer’s Society of SA. Andrew delivered a very informative presentation on dementia, in-cluding the nature and types of dementia, the effects it has on

sufferers, the statistics of its occurrence and the efforts to create dementia friendly communities including the im-portance of recognizing and understanding dementia. An-drew finished with a roundup of what we can and should do to combat dementia, which is dealt with under the slogan YOURBRAINMATTERS. Peter H alerted us to brain training apps of which there are plenty including luminosity.

28th October and the wine has been bottled. Brenley in-formed the Club what a good day out it was and wondered aloud why more Club members don’t avail themselves of an excellent day out. Peter T introduced out guest speaker, Mr Luke Datson who spoke on behalf of donatelife. Luke is an organ donor coordinator and speaks regularly to promote understanding of organ donation . Luke covered the statistics of organ donation and spoke of world figures as well as na-tional figures. Overall only 1% of those who die in hospitals

end up donating organs, and there are up to 1500 on the donor recipient list at any given time.

Luke covered the various attitudes to and beliefs about organ donation and dispelled a number of myths. One inter-esting fact was that at the end of the day it is the family who

make the decision as to whether organ donation takes place.

Luke covered why people need transplants, the different organ transplants and the conditions pertaining to each, and a detailed overview of the process from start to fin-ish. There are many informative fact sheets as well as the registration form at their website.
