High-efficiency rotary engineIntroductionWith the growing number of vehicles in the world, companies are ushered to develop new, better designs for the thousands of different parts which collectively constitute a vehicle. Two major concerns are presented before us while reviewing the topic:1.Fuel consumption2.Power developed per weightThe obvious component to be tuned to achieve this is the heart of the vehicle: The engine.Numerous designs have been developed in order to combat the problems associated with tuning the engine. But as in any case, problems are present in these solutions too. From the basic look and the working of an I.C engine, we can classify it into two categories, reciprocating and rotary. The former category has seen many improvements in the design through the ages. But the latter has not evolved much. The objective of this project is to look at the rotary engine design aimed at incorporating the advantages of reciprocating with the simplicity of the rotary engines.Compared to this engine, disadvantages of the current I.C engines:Power to weight ratio is lower.Lesser number of power strokes.Fuel consumption is more for same torque produced by the rotary engine.Advantages of rotary engine:Smoother runningNo flywheel requiredBreathing capacity of the engineBetter coolingHigh compression ratio on low octane number fuelEco friendly than reciprocating.
