Welcome to the Rotherham Equipment & Wheelchair Service

Who we areRotherham Equipment and Wheelchair Service is a joint Rotherham NHS/Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council equipment service, dedicated to the provision of Daily Living Assistive Aids, Community Nursing Equipment, and NHS Prescription Wheelchairs, to the local community within Rotherham.

All of the equipment provided by the Rotherham Equipment and Wheelchair Service (REWS) is issued on a loan only basis, and is provided free of any charges. The equipment can be returned to the service (or collected by REWS), following the end of the loan period, or where the equipment is no longer required.

Equipment can only be provided by REWS, following the completion of an equipment assessment, undertaken by either a Health, or Social Care Professional.

The service is located at Chesterton Road on the Eastwood Trading Estate, in Rotherham, and is open between 8.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

What we doOur purpose built Warehouse, Equipment Cleaning, and Maintenance facility, located in Eastwood, provides the community with a reliable, responsive and quality equipment service, in ensuring that equipment is ‘fit for purpose and intended use’ at all times. The REWS building is also home to the ‘NHS Wheelchair Service

Therapy team’ who are able to undertake both posture, and mobility assessment, within the dedicated clinic area within REWS.

How we provide this serviceThe service employs a highly trained and dedicated team of staff with ‘many years’ equipment service experience. They are reactive to the need of both health professionals, and service users alike.

Equipment can be delivered, using our own vehicles, direct to the required delivery address, or for your convenience the equipment can be collected directly from the REWS store on Chesterton Road.

Any equipment returned or collected by REWS, is fully cleaned/decontaminated upon return (to comply with all required NHS Decontamination/Infection Control requirements) and is inspected, prior to any re-issue of the equipment for further use.

Great care is taken by the service to ensure that the equipment provided is of a high quality standard, and fit for the purpose, for which it was intended. All equipment is inspected prior to re-issue, functionality tested, and will have been maintained, to any manufacturer requirement. REWS own dedicated and fully trained workforce, being involved in any on-site installation, or maintenance which might be required.

Please contact your Health and Social Care Professional for further details, or alternatively telephone Assessment Direct on 01709 822330
