Today we welcome the players officials and supporters of the Marconi Stallions to

Seymour Shaw. The Sharks will be looking to blunt the Stallions charge toward semi-final football. Sutherland are coming off the back of two highly competitive losses against the Sydney FC Hyundai A-League team and one of the competition front runners in Sydney Olympic. The mid week game was well supported from our SAP parents and players and gave the both our 1sts and 20’s a measure against some of the best players in the country.

The first round encounter saw the Sharks run out 2-0 winners in a hard fought contest. Coach Grant Lee will be looking for a similar performance from the team tonight. We will be without captain Jacob Tratt tonight as he is trialling with Hyundai A-League Club Wellington. This situation isn’t ideal but it gives young players like Harry Sutherland, Tom Pappa and Harrison Quirk their chance to step up that extra level. Of course this will have ramifications for our 20’s who have led the

competition all the way until recently. Their 1-0 victory against Olympic last week keeps them in the hunt for the minor premiership and finals football. The incredible bad run with injuries in the two squads has resulted in re-shuffles that have not helped our cause.

The under 18’s had a convincing 3-0 win against Sydney Olympic last week. This was most welcomed as they earned valuable club championship points. Goals were scored by Bailey Pimentel, Charlie Jones and Tristan Maher. Strong performances from Bailey, Luke Sauer and James Nikolovski provided the base for the all round strong performance.

Today our Skills Development will provide the half time entertainment. These boys have played for their local clubs but have done extra work with Sharks players and coaches. Nick Olsen and Harry Sutherland are doing a great job with these boys.

As usual, Blue is the Colour, Go you Sharks!

NPLNSW.COM.AU 1ST GRADE MATCH PREVIEW

1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S

While they may have had their own playoffs hopes crushed, Sutherland Sharks will

look to do the same to the visiting Marconi Stallions at Seymour Shaw this Saturday night.

A tough run of results over the second half of the season, including a 3-1 defeat last week to Sydney Olympic, has all but ended the Sharks chances of playing in the post season.

Their opponent this week, Marconi, needs to win the remaining two games on the schedule to usurp Rockdale from fifth spot. A 4-1 win against Sydney FC certainly helped the Stallions case.

Marconi is three points behind Rockdale in sixth position on 27 points.

Sutherland struggled against Olympic’s high powered attack and Marconi is sure to take note of that in their gameplay.

Look for lots of Marko Jesic, Hassan Jollah, Charles Mendy and Sean Rooney as the visitors set out to attack the Sharks into submission.

To make matters worse, Sutherland will be without defensive leader Jacob Tratt for the match forcing everyone else to take their game to another level.

Marconi has everything to play for and the motivation of finals football will make them desperate to take the most out of this match.

It is a scary proposition for Sutherland who are in for an almighty clash.

#NPLNSWMATCH REVIEWSSydney Olympic 3 – Sutherland Sharks 1 at Belmore Sportsground

Sydney Olympic has silenced Sutherland Sharks with a 3-1 victory at Belmore Sportsground on Sunday afternoon to keep their Premiership hopes alive

Two goals to Spanish striker Alejandro Sanchez and one to Max Burgess cancelled out one from Sutherland’s Adrian Vranic to secure the victory for the home side.

Sanchez found the net after 30 minutes to opening the scoring and give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break before doubling his tally early in the second stanza.

Vranic pulled one back in the 60th minute but it wasn’t to be for the Sharks as Burgess wrapped up the win with a goal only eight minutes later.

The result means Olympic stays locked on equal points with league leaders but stay in second due to their inferior goal difference.

Marconi Stallions 4 – Sydney FC 1 at Marconi Stadium

Marconi Stallions have kept their finals dreams alive with a 4-1 demolition of Sydney FC at Marconi Stadium on Sunday.

The win moves the Peter Tsekenis coached Stallions side to sixth in the competition standings, three points behind fifth placed Rockdale City Suns.

The Young Sky Blues opened the scoring after only two minutes thanks to a Jackson Bandiera who cooly finished after a Nenad Vekic save fell at his feet.

It took until just before the interval for the home side to equalise when Mateo Poljak converted from the penalty spot.

Sydney FC took it to Marconi in the first half, it was a far different story in the second stanza.

Hassan Jollah scored a brace against his former side inside nine minutes while Marko Jesic put the icing on the cake to wrap up the 4-1 victory.

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEWSutherland halted their slide from the top

of the ladder with a 1-0 win over Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground last weekend, just their second victory in their last six matches.

The Sharks now sit three points behind Sydney FC heading into the final two weeks of the season, a side they led by up to eight points in the weeks before their form dipped.

A win over Olympic was mandatory to keep up with Sydney and Blacktown City ahead of them, and a result against Marconi would go a long way towards setting Sutherland up for a strong run in the finals – Premiership or no.

Marconi come into this one a week after a 4-2 loss to Sydney FC; the Stallions’ first loss in a month killing all momentum as they made a late charge for the finals. No less than two wins from their last two fixtures will give them faint

hope of making the five, but their opponents over the final fortnight – Sutherland and Wollongong Wolves – won’t be giving up points easily at this stage of the season.
