Garland Labor Day Parade
Monday, Sept. 6, 2021
• Garland Labor Day Parade is Monday, Sept. 6!

Council Key 3 Recharter changes
1. They are working on a new recharter tool that will be completely web based. They are expecting it to be out and available in October. There should be a sandbox to try the new app and learn how to use it.
2. Start checking YPT of your units and getting it in order If you do not know how to do that get with you unit commissioner or Ken Pickering District Commissioner.
3. There is a catch. I am not sure how it will affect some of our units. The new recharter tool requires the unit uses scout book not sure to what degree or what information needs to be in there. I think all of the units have been using it for internet advancement and even for some of the scout management.

Join School Nights - Cub Scout Recruiting • Join School Nights will be from Aug 17 to Sept 23
• Membership Committee (MC) will staff all JSNs
– Membership Committee will staff at all JSNs with a trained presenter and
helpers.
– If possible, a Pack representative attending each meeting would be
helpful.
– Troops, our packs could use your help with join nights. Contact Mrs.
Powers to ask what days she needs help with. Thanks!

• Recruiting update: Join nights are going well in most schools. Families
are attending with many joining. We are thrilled and encourage you all
to continue to reach out. We appreciate your hard work and dedication.

Merit Badge Mania
ITS BIGGER, BADDER, AND BOLDER THAN EVER!!!
Yeah baby its Merit badge mania! *crowd goes wild*
January 29th 2022 at Richland College from (8am - 5pm Tentatively)
Registration will open soon so stay tuned to future roundtables for more
information.
Duck creek district will be joining forces with East trinity trails and Northern
trails districts in a combined Merit badge college for all Scouts BSA youth.
We will be looking for Merit badge counselors to lead classes for this event.

Do an outdoor activity with a Scout Troop! Need some camping time, go with Troop 57 Boy and Girl Troops
for a Webelos friendly campout or events.
Troop 57 Challenge Campout – is a patrol based friendly competition of some scout skills and fun events.
We have done this campout once a year for over 6 years. It builds patrol sprit and comradery.
When: September 17th-19th
Search and Rescue Campout – The last time we had search and rescue dogs and many emergency
vehicles. It was a great time. We anticipate many of the same things at this campout.
When: November 12th-14th
57 Show Case – Is a day of fun and an opportunity for Webelos scouts to check off some requirements for
Webelos badge and Arrow of Light badge.
When: TBD but looking at a Saturday in November or December

National Membership Fees
Effective August 1, 2021, the national annual member-
ship fee is increasing because the costs associated
with Scouting, including liability insurance. The
updated fees will be:
• $72 for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting
participants. Prorated. Plus, a $25 Joining Fee.
• $45 for Exploring participants
• $30 for council-paid memberships (ScoutReach)
• $45 for all adult volunteers (includes cost of background check)
• $75 for a Unit Charter/Recharter Fee

Incident Reporting• SUMMARY: The 4-1-1 on Incident Reporting Policies
• Timely and complete incident reporting provides the BSA with an opportunity for analysis of incidents that occur and promotes continuous improvement of our programs. In our experience, the sooner a clear, concise, and complete incident report is made, the sooner that an appropriate response to the incident can occur.
• GENERAL INFORMATION
• What is an incident? There are three types of reportable incidents:
• Near Miss—A near miss does not result in injury, illness, or damage, by definition, but it had the potential to do so.
• General Liability—Events or allegations of injury, illness, or property damage, including employment, director, and officer issues.
• Youth Protection/Membership Infraction—Allegations of abuse, violations of BSA guidelines or policies, or inappropriate behavior by a Scout/Scout leader/parent/other.
• Why report an incident? The information reported from incidents helps identify areas for improvement so we can help prevent the reoccurrence of similar incidents. The BSA cannot address a concern if we do not know about it. Reporting incidents promptly is also critical so the BSA can respond in a timely manner and manage claims properly.
• When do I report an incident? Report as soon as possible if an injury or illness cannot be treated by Scout-rendered first aid, a medical professional such as a doctor or nurse was needed, or an ambulance was called.
• How do I report an incident? You can report it to your local council, which can then enter it for you, or you can enter the incident yourself at the BSA’s Incident Reporting webpage (see “All Things Incident Reporting” in the “Resources” section, below). The webpage has tools to help you collect facts.
• Reporting tips: It is important that incident reports are filled out as completely as possible. This will help bring clarity to the situation and avoid unnecessary calls or emails for additional information. Photographs of the site, facilities, vehicles, or equipment can add value to the report. Remember to include only pertinent facts about the incident. Do not assign blame or include personal opinions. Stick to the facts.
