DID YOU KNOW? October - New Reminders Each Month:

Remember:

Now that it’s starting to get dark earlier, be sure to check your post light and replace the bulbs if necessary. The additional lighting is helpful for those who walk early in the morning or later in the evening. Let’s keep everyone safe!

It’s also important to replace any burned out lights in your address numbers over the garage. This could be vital if emergency services need to find your address.

Don’t park your cart on the road or grass while you run to the mailbox for mail. Take the time to park your cart in the lot and get your mail.

Please DO NOT PASS golf carts while driving your car, especially along Royal St. George’s Lane. There have been a number of near misses when cars tried passing golf carts and did not consider oncoming traffic that wasn’t visible. The speed limit is 25 mph and your life is more important than being late.

Thank You from Debra Davis, LCAM

DEBRA’S CORNER Community Association Manager

Greetings from the Royal Highlands office

Fall is my favorite time of year. I miss the changing of the leaves and the beautiful colors displayed in the mountains of Virginia.

Pumpkins, apple cider, hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin bread, apples, are just a few of my favorite things. We can still enjoy the Fall right here in sunny Florida. Put out your fall decorations, light that pumpkin spice candle, and have a piece of that pumpkin bread with a cup of apple cider. I would like to share a poem that someone very special to me wrote about the Fall/Autumn colors. Author-Janet Davis, my mother in law.

Heavenly Spectacles Scarlet and gold,

At their brilliant best, Trees make a spectacle,

Wish it could last.

With sun shining through, It’s a heavenly sight,

Heaven itself, Could not be more bright.

But if heaven itself, Outdoes this show,

Let’s hope sunglasses are supplied, When to heaven we go.

Reminders:

Please place your trash cans in your driveway on collection day and not in the street. We have had a problem with trash cans sitting in the street and as you know some of our streets are narrow.

Please do not drive golf carts on the common areas in the grass. Please drive on the streets/parking lots. Only golf carts that have handicap identification on them are allowed to park behind the pool area.

Please make sure if you have an emergency, call 911, not the guard house.

If you have a vehicle/boat/trailer parked in the overflow parking, you must have some type of identification to show that you are the owner of the vehicle/boat/trailer. At present, there are 4 that have no identification in/on them. If they are not identified after 30 days we will have them towed. We have placed violation stickers on each one.

Work in progress: Comcast contract, Budget for 2017, Paving project, and Spillways repaired.

Until next time,

Debra Davis, LCAM, 352-326-8344

ROYAL BOOKWORMS Marilyn Stern will facilitate our discussion of The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht. It is set in an unnamed Balkan country, in the present and half-a-century ago, and features a young

doctor's relationship with her grandfather and the stories he tells her, primarily about the 'deathless man' who meets him several times in different places and never changes, and a deaf-mute girl from his childhood village who befriends a tiger that has escaped from a zoo. It was largely written while she was at Cornell, and excerpted in The New Yorker in June 2009. Asked to summarize it by a university journalist, Obreht replied, "It's a family saga that takes place in a fictionalized province of the Balkans. It’s about a female narrator and her relationship to her grandfather, who's a doctor. It's a saga about doctors and their relationships to death throughout all these wars in the Balkans."

This is Obreht's first novel. It received much acclaim and was a finalist for the National Book Award. Please join us for the discussion.

CHRISTIAN BOOKS NEEDED Would you like to help the people you know while, at the same time, helping with the ministry at the Lake County Jail? Ask your family, friends, church members, prayer partners, etc., if they have Christian books to donate to the Women’s Jail Ministry. Who isn’t trying to unclutter? They may be wondering what to do with their Christian books after they’ve finished reading them. You may become their hero by helping them to clear out some of the books that tend to accumulate in the homes of avid readers. Give it a try. You may be amazed at the response.

Just remember that the books must be paperback. The soft-cover books can be fiction, non-fiction, devotionals, biographies or poetry; but must encourage Christian values, be uplifting and encouraging, or be about people who have overcome obstacles. Books about people who have overcome alcohol and/or drug addictions are especially helpful.

As always, books may be dropped off at my home at 4929 Kelso St. or phone me at [352-323-1913] to arrange for pickup. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry.

Diane Brown, 323-1913

DINNER DATE GROUP The Dinner Date Group is open to all residents of Royal Highlands. Snowbirds or others who may be here only during the winter months are encouraged to join as “substitutes”.

If you would like to join us, please email Jan Sparks call Jan at [352- 314-0817] or [email protected].

Our purpose is to meet new people by have each couple dine with different couples monthly. We will dine at scheduled homes in Royal Highlands for five months. Each month the “Group”, couples that join the Dinner Date group, are given a schedule of Host and Guests. There are three couples per group per house. One couple is the “Host” and the other two couples are the “Guests”. Each Dinner Date is held in the home of the Host couple. The role of the “Host” is to contact guest couples as soon as the monthly schedule comes out and agree on a date and a time. The “Host” provides the entrée and asks the “Guests” to bring either a vegetable or salad or a dessert. The Dinner Date may also be a lunch or a brunch instead of dinner. This arrangement rotates each month so that each couple will host only twice during the season.

Hope to see you this fall! Jan and Gary Sparks(407) 579-8978

DANCE LESSONS & PRACTICE October 10, 17, 24

Special Halloween Party on 31 This month on the 10, we will continue to learn basic steps to an all-time favorite, the Waltz. Whether starting a new relationship with the evening’s last dance, or celebrating a wedding, the Waltz remains the only dance whose innate romance links it to life’s happier moments. This is another versatile dance that can be done in a variety of places, weddings, cruises, country and ballroom dances. The basic steps can get you traversing the dance floor in no time at all. On the 17 and 24 we will have lessons on the Merengue. This is a hot Caribbean dance that is popular & can be utilized on cruise ships and most dance venues. The simplicity of the basic step makes it easy to learn. Come

catch the tropical excitement of this wonderful dance! The lessons begin promptly at 3:45 pm. We will begin general dancing at 4:30-6:00 to practice the waltz and a variety of other dances for those more experienced ballroom dancers. There is a $1 p/p charge for the lesson…the dance portion is free. Since Monday night is our normal night, we are going to have a potluck/dance on the 31 between 5:30-8:30. It will be a costume optional dance but for those who make the effort to dress up, we will have some surprises! We will have signup sheets at our regular Monday night sessions or you can call before October 27 to make a reservation and tell us what you want to bring. Dance before the music is over! ROYAL PIECEMAKERS Tuesdays, 1-3 pm,

Craft Room Fall is here and our snowbirds are starting to return to sunny Florida. It's good having you back.

In October we are going to learn how to make a paper-pieced block that is going to be a turkey. Each finished block will be 12 inches square. You can use these turkey blocks to make whatever strikes your fancy - placemats, table toppers, table runners, a quilt or any other idea you come up with. Maybe before this project is completed I will finally learn how to do paper piecing. Karen Wiley will be teaching us this technique. Bring in whatever 'Fall' fabrics you have so that we can share in making each of our turkeys different. I can't wait to start this project.

If you don't think you want to work on this project, please join us anyway with whatever you are working on. You are always welcome.

SIT AND SEW 2nd & 4th Wednesday, 9 am - 2 pm, Craft Room

Our "Sit and Sew" group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. This "Sit and Sew" is held in the Craft Room from 9 am to 2 pm during the months of May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. The dates we will be meeting in October are the 12 and the 26.

Linda Waddell from Royal Piecemakers donated a pattern and fabric to us for a quilt. Anyone wanting to help us make blocks and put this quilt together is welcome to join us at the October 26th "Sit and Sew" session. We will also have backing, batting and binding available for this quilt. It is our intention to donate the finished quilt to charity. You do not have to work on this charity quilt if you do not want to - you can bring in any project you are working on. Everyone is welcome to sew with our group. Please bring you lunch, snacks and a drink. Feel free to stay for a little bit or stay the entire time - it is totally up to you. It's always nice to have someone to bounce questions off of and to get helpful hints from when working on a project. I hope you will be able to join us. Hope to see you there. Happy Sewing!

Jo Buse, [email protected], 630-715-5091 DAR, [Daughters of the Revolution] Our new season and monthly meetings will resume on October 15 at about 9:30 am, Rec Center. It will be so nice to see you all again and we have a lot on our plate for the coming year. Our Guest Speaker will be Beverly Gentry, National Correspondent Docent and her topic will be: “Stories You've Heard about Early America, Truth or Myth”. I've known Beverly for some time and she is an excellent speaker. I think you will enjoy her program. Please stay for a short memorial service in honor of member, Arlene Grietzer who passed away over the summer. As usual, Daughters of the American Revolution warmly welcome all guests and any women over the age of 18 who might be interested in becoming a member. We have an excellent chapter registrar who is ready to help you find any ancestors who helped in some way in the forming of this country in 1776 or before. Most people aren't even aware that they can go back that far. We'd like to invite anyone who is interested in taking that journey but warning-- it's addictive and we can't be held responsible!

DUPLICATE BRIDGE CLUB In order to encourage and reward newer bridge players in the 0-50 ACBL point category Royal Highlands Bridge Club is offering a ‘player credit voucher’ to players who participate in a Tuesday education class or a Monday or Thursday night bridge game at RH. Each time a person in the 0 - 50 ACBL point category attends a Tuesday Educational Class or plays in a Monday or Thursday night duplicate game, they may request a ‘player credit voucher’. This voucher will be for their use only -- no sharing. It will be worth $1.00 off any game you play in on Friday afternoon. Multiple vouchers can be used at a Friday game. The purpose of the voucher is to encourage and reward bridge players that are trying to improve their play through education and game experiences.

You may use multiple vouchers for the Friday game. If you play in the Monday night game and come to the Tuesday class you can request 2 vouchers for a Friday game. That means residents can play for $0 that Friday. You do not have to use the voucher in the same week that you earn it. This policy will remain in effect until the RHDBC Board votes to change it. Vouchers will not expire. The game is every Friday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm in the card room of the Royal Highlands Recreation Center, 5350 Monarch Blvd. Leesburg, FL, 34748. The Friday game will still be a stratified ACBL Sanctioned game so Masterpoints will be provided if you are an ACBL member or wish to join.

Legal Immigration

by “Legal Immigrants for America (LIFA)”

Illegal Immigration has become a top issue in the 2016 Presidential Campaign. Illegal immigration affects everything in America: national security, jobs and wages, education, crime, taxes, health care, etc.

Illegal Immigration is a very emotional issue. Those that have grave concerns about the current and future consequences of illegal immigration are labeled “racists”, “mean-spirited”, “without compassion”, etc. These labels tend to shut down the debate on this very critical issue.

Should we feel compassion for illegal immigrants, including Muslim refugees from war-torn areas of the Middle East, and allow them to come to the “land of opportunity”? Should our policies be guided by the inscription on our Statute of Liberty “…Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses, yearning to breath free…”

Or should we control our borders, expel those that have expired visas and have a “religious test” for those seeking immigration to America. Do these actions match our American values?

The above, as well as many other issues, will be explored in the presentation by Steve Gushov (Executive Director of LIFA), James Hansberger (Chairman of LIFA) and Amapola Hansberger (a legal immigrant). LIFA’s web site is www.golifa.com.

Whatever your position on illegal immigration you need to attend this presentation so that you have a better understanding of its scope and impact on America.

There will be refreshments available before the meeting. Everyone is invited. Details in “Royal Highlands Republican Club Newsletter”

KITCHEN BAND Wednesday, October 12, 11:15 am, Great Hall

The rehearsal for fall holidays will be October 12 at 11:15, so if you are late returning to Royal Highlands, join us then. We welcome new members, male or female, to join the fun. We take quite a variety of talents to the assisted living residences, rehab centers, and nursing homes in Leesburg, Clermont, Tavares and Eustis. The object is to cheer up the residents, but we have so much fun doing it! Search the kitchen for a percussion instrument, buy a kazoo, and be ready to play or sing a lot of the favorite songs when you were young. They love to join us singing and some even will dance. Our many costumes keep them interested. All programs start at 10 am on Wednesday mornings, lasting an hour. Many members then go out to eat. Carpooling is from the Great Hall at 9 or 9:15 am, depending on the distance. We visit 13 venues twice a year, ending in May. Yes, it is a big commitment, but it may be the thing you enjoy most. Computer Wizard Questions & Answers

Dear Computer Wizard: Should I turn-off my computer? Signed, Allen Dear Allen: Turning off your computer is a question that has been debated by the best. However, it is necessary once in a while, especially to complete an update and various skills. Personally, I think it should be turned off, if you are not using, especially overnight. There are many reasons, ie: technical devices generate heat, good idea to let the hardware rest & rebooting often clears any problems - just to name a few. Signed, Computer Wizard Dear Computer Wizard: In e-mail should I use the “reply all” feature when answering or commenting on a message? Signed, Pat Dear Pat: I have a str ict rule on this issue. “Reply All” should NEVER be used without the permission of the partici-pants in the e-mail group. There are several different scenar-ios: (1) If you are the one wanting the answers or com-ments - you need everyone’s permission. Be respectful of recipients, as they might not want to receive all those e-mails. (2) If you are having a group meeting in e-mail and you need for everyone to see all the comments - then Reply all can be beneficial, but get their permission. Signed, Computer Wizard

New Comcast Bulk Communications Contract has started Beginning September 1, 2016, residents may call Comcast to schedule the free installation of their new equipment and/or services. Residents will have up to 1 year from September 1, 2016 to have their free, one-time, installation completed. We

also had onsite events in September. The RH Technology Committee has put out Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) fact sheet to help clear up any concerns about the new contract. You can find it on our webpage or on the bulletin board in the Rec Center. It is too large for the newsletter. During the conversion of 1500 homes, there are bound to be problems that

arise. Below are the steps that should be taken if you feel you are not getting services you deserve, you have been charged an installation fee, or think you are being charged too much for the services you have.

1. Be sure you understand what is provided for in our contract. Any other devices or upgrades may require additional charges that will be billed directly to you. The following are all paid for in your HOA fees. 3 activated HD TV outlets

with 1 HD DVR; 1 HD Box; 1 HD DTA; (each with Digital Starter Channel Lineup), High-Definition Technology 1 Wi-Fi gateway (combo router and modem) 1 Performance Internet (25Mbs) Free professional installation 2. Read over the FAQs to be sure your question is not answered there.

3. You may email the RH Technology Committee for clarification on your issue or concern. 4. Call the Comcast Bulk Call Center 877-834-6757 and make your request.

5. If you still feel you are correct and cannot get your issue resolved through the bulk call center, fill out the Comcast Esca-lation form (available RH webpage and in the RHPOA office). You must provide the dates and times you have tried to

resolve on your own before the form will be submitted for consideration. Return the form to the office and they will send it to Comcast.

The most common problem seems to be residents being charged a $50.00 installation fee. YOU SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED AN INSTALLATION FEE FOR ANYTHING. If there is an installation fee on your bill – check to see that you don’t have a credit or promotion that negates that charge. RH Webpage: http://royalhighlandspoa.com

STRENGTH TRAINING Mondays, Wednesday & Friday, 6:30 am Instructors: Bobby Ray Sny & Dot Davis

Great Hall A recent article on women and weightlifting in the Orlando Sentinel says “Strength training benefits include a healthier heart, better bones, improves endurance, is a mood booster, adds brain power, weight loss, less risk of diabetes and other diseases among many other benefits.” This is a great way to start your day and improve your overall health.

Although muscle can help you burn fat, women do not “bulk up” from strength training as some women fear. The article continues to say, “Older women must participate in activities designed to specifically strengthen all the large muscle groups to maintain maximum health and lifestyle performance.” Bring a floor mat and 2 weights of a comfortable size (most women in the class use 2 - 5 lbs, men 8 -15 lbs). It’s a great class for men too and there is no charge!

Give it a try - we would love to have you join us! Bobby Ray Sny, 348-7659

Dot Davis, 360-2688

Meditation Club Sunday, October 9, 2 - 3 pm

21635 Regency Park Lane Welcome to Meditation Club! We teach beginners how to get started and develop the meditation skills of experienced members. We discover and explore the many meditation techniques practiced worldwide. At the most practical lev-el, group meditation reinforces your desire to make it a dai-ly practice. The proximity of others has the power of raising your own vibrational frequency. Individually we may not see ourselves as enlightened, but the group effect multiplies each single member. Also, meditating in a group is a fun and healthy way to socialize while learning a skill that is good for your mind, body, and spirit.

Please join us to start or strengthen your meditation prac-tice. Learn additional tips and techniques. You don’t have to sit on the floor in lotus position -- unless you want to! This is non-faith based and no experience is necessary.

We currently meet the second Sunday of each month, so our next meeting is September 11, 2016. Contact Deb Schu-macher (email: [email protected]) to RSVP and/or to suggest a time that is more workable for you. Eve-ryone is invited! If you are curious and would like to learn more, Peace and health. Deb Schumacher, 575-2553

TAI CHI FOR DIABETES & TAI CHI RULER Tuesdays, 10 am, Great Hall, No class Oct 4 & 25

First time at Royal Highlands! A large percentage of our community is either pre-Diabetic or has Diabetes. This Tai Chi for Diabetes (TCD) evidence-based program has been shown to help and sometimes eliminate these conditions. You don’t need to have Diabetes to benefit from this Form, however! This practice also improves flexibility, stamina, stability, mental focus and balance. We begin with Qigong (energy cultivation) exercises and tai chi ruler practice to warm up, stretch the body and calm the mind. This is fol-lowed by a gentle combination Yang/Sun style Tai Chi rou-tine that is safe, easy to learn and suitable for every fitness level. These easy movements can be done standing or seated. Your mind quiets, being fully absorbed in the practice and the moment. Learn more about the benefits of Tai Chi by visiting: TaiChiforHealthInstitute.org. Choose to come for the first half of the class to learn qigong exercises and tai chi ruler, or stay until 11:30 to learn this combination Yang/Sun style Tai Chi Form. This class builds on progressive movements (forms) so participants should plan on attending most classes. Tai chi rulers are provided for use during class. Wear loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise. Cost is $2 p/p for the full class or $1 p/p for the first hour only. Please contact Deb if you are unsure whether this class is for you, or if you want individual instruction. Deb has been practicing tai chi and qigong since 1987 and is a certified senior instructor with the Tai Chi for Health Insti-tute and a certified instructor with the Integral Ch’uan Institute. Deb Schumacher, 575-2553

TAI CHI FOR ARTHRITIS/HEALTH REVIEW Tuesdays, 9:30 - 10 am, Great Hall

Note: No class on Oct 4 or 25 This class is for those familiar with the Tai Chi for Arthritis (TCA) Form (one of Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health pro-

grams using traditional movements), which was offered this past year. We will review the Form as a whole and re-learn any parts that need refreshing. The fundamental principles of Tai Chi Ch’uan are empha-sized. This is an evidence-based program endorsed by The Arthritis Foundation and

recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Preven-tion (CDC) for Fall Prevention. Please contact Deb if you are unsure whether this class is for you, or if you want individual instruction. Wear loose com-fortable clothes and flat shoes suitable for exercise. Those attending the Tai Chi for Diabetes class which follows are welcome to observe or participate at no cost. If only attend-ing the Review class, a $1 fee is requested. Deb has been practicing tai chi and qigong since 1987 and is a certified senior instructor with the Tai Chi for Health Institute and a certified in-structor with the Integral Ch’uan Institute.

BICYCLE CLUB Monday, November 7, 4 pm

The Bicycle Club will hold its next meeting on November 7 at 4 pm in the Rec Center. The meeting will be chaired by Tom Dixon as Pat and Ron Field are staying in Canada dealing with medical issues. We send them our best wishes for a full recovery. Also, I am happy to report that Dale Waddell is on the mend after several medical procedures and we look forward seeing him on a bicycle soon. Members and non-Members returning from Summer vacation and those of us that stay year around can ride with the Club on all even numbered weekdays starting at 8 am at the Great Hall. Also, you may go to our website for information on all of our off campus rides and trips <www.rhbike.webs.com>. October is a great time to ride the trails of Florida. The weather is perfect and the crowds are not in town yet. So get those bicycles tuned up and have some fun. If you have guests coming into town you can rent bicycles at Wheel Works in Winter Garden [407-877-7433] or Bikes and Blades at the West Orange Trailhead [407-877-0600]. A tip for enjoying your ride---if you have to stop, remember to down shift the gears so you will have an easier time starting up again. But before you ride remember to check those tires for wear and cuts. Make sure that the wheel travels freely and your brakes work properly. As Christmas is approaching, remember your friends that have bicycles, as there is always something that they will need to improve their riding experience. You can pick up gloves, shirts, water bottles, odometers or a helmet. They will appreciate it. Mike Kowalski, 315-1162

TENNIS CLUB NEWS

Social Event, Saturday, October 22 8 - 10 am Tennis Courts

We are inviting all tennis club members and new Royal Highland’s residents interested in

playing tennis to come to the tennis courts on Saturday, October 22. This will be a time to welcome back our snowbird members and to meet new residents who are interested in either getting back into the game or learning the fun sport of tennis. Coffee/refreshments will be served. New residents are encouraged to attend and to bring a racquet, or the club has some spares to lend out. If interest is generated from this event, we will have a tennis clinic in the fall. We are still on our summer schedule at 8 am for Open Tennis on Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday. Open tennis is available to all residents. On the fall schedule are the Intercommunity Tournaments playing with neighboring communities once a month. Sign up sheets will be posted closer to the events. The Fun Day tournament event is in the planning stages. If you have other ideas to improve our club and activities, please tell a board member. Organized events are the ladies' doubles on Friday at 8 am and the men's Tuesday evening doubles. Call Irene Bennett at [323-6116] if interested in the ladies' doubles and Ed Schmitt at [323-7412] for the men's doubles. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 25, 10 am in the Rec Center. We will be taking nominations to replace our present board members. This is a two year commitment. If there are any questions/concerns, contact Marge Avery at [323-1724] or Connie Lewis at [365-0682]. See you on the courts.

Connie Lewis, 365-0682.

BOCCE CLUB Meeting, October 6, 1 pm

MEETING: Our first meeting of the season will be on October 6, at 1 pm in the Rec Center

meeting room. We will be collecting dues from all members. The dues are the same as last year, $7.00 per person. Checks payable to RHPOA preferred. Rosters and schedules for the year will be handed out. The first days of play will be on October 18, 20, and 21. Please remember that this year each division will be responsible for their own maintenance prior to their day's play. Larry Van Cour who heads up the maintenance will teach any volunteers who want to help what needs to be done. If you are able to help, give him a call at [323-0944]. Let's have fun this year.

OPEN BOCCE: The courts are open to all residents and their guests every day for open play except Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings when they are closed for team play starting October 18. Please remember to drag the courts whenever you play a game. Do not leave them in poor condition. DO NOT LOFT THE BALLS FROM ABOVE THE WAIST as this will damage the courts.

Bocce is an easy game to play. A child of 8 or 9 years of age can play with adult supervision. Equipment is located in the outdoor cabinet by the shuffleboard courts. Try the game to see if you would like to join us. If you have any questions, call MaryAnn Hamric (314-3873). Joan Terranova, 435-4609

ROYAL EARLYBIRDS LEAGUE Thursdays - 9:30 am, AMF Leesburg Lanes

No League play to report at this time since we just began last Thursday and will continue for 30 weeks. Practice begins at 9:15 am and scored play begins at 9:30 am. The cost each week for 3 games is $11.80. When you sign up to bowl with us, you will receive an AMF rewards card which entitles you to discounts at the snack bar, 2 free practice games a week, a big cookie during your birthday month and so much more. Our league is currently in need of additional players. With the snowbirds returning this month, we should have 8 teams of 4. We would like to continue to grow our league.

If you haven’t bowled in a while or have never bowled, come join us! This is a fun-only league. No prizes, no competition, just laughs and camaraderie. Come meet your fellow neighbors or make new friendships.

We could also use some Subs. If you’d like to bowl on occasion, sign up as a Sub. A Sub does not pay to bowl.

To borrow from a former article submitter, “If you want to learn, rekindle or pick up where you left off bowling, this is the league for you! We are a fun group of nice people.” –Michelle Penski Please call AMF Leesburg Lanes [352 787-3335] to inquire. Terry Eckensberger, 732-742-0579

SOFTBALL NEWS The next RH softball meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 3 (it's the first Monday in the month this time), at 4 pm. in the meeting room at the Rec Center. There will be a one-pitch softball tournament held the last week of October. The exact starting date and times for the game has not been firmed up yet. The tournament in the past few years has been held at Spanish Village and probably will be this year too. The regular softball leagues will be starting the beginning of November. We are going to have three teams this year: In the 4 divisions of the Lakes League, we will have a Div. 2 team, managed by Tommy Hearns, a Div. 3 or 4 team, managed by Dan Jankowski and assistant manager MIke Carrmo; both of those teams will be playing on Monday and Wednesday mornings. We will also have a 70 team, managed by Duane Dagostino, playing on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 2 pm. Team scheduled games and times have not been determined yet. Check further newsletter for future schedules or contact me, Barry Rosenberg, or the team managers. Don't forget to sign up for our Annual Yard Sale on Saturday, November 5. Each space is 10 x 10 and the fee is $15. Just make your reservation at the Rec Center.

PICKLEBALL CLUB October 7, 3 pm, Meeting Room

This will be our first meeting since summer break. Looking forward to speaking with all of you.

Residents & Members: Due to unfortunate incidents at our courts by “out of the community people” we have been forced to keep our courts locked when not in use. All paid members have the code to get in. Residents will need to stop at the gate to get the code. You will need to provide ID and your lot #. We ask that everyone, when you are the last people off the courts, to please remember to lock the gate and turn the tumbler numbers so that unauthorized people cannot

gain access to the courts. We are sorry for this inconvenience, but it is necessary to protect the courts. It is that time of year that we need to think about a new slate of officers for the next 2 years. A committee has been formed and nominees have been tentatively selected. If you have not been contacted and you are interested in being on the board, please call Jerry Paluch, chairman. Our summer schedule of play is still in effect. Remember to wear court shoes, and drink plenty of water. Play safe. See you on the courts.

MODEL YACHT CLUB Meeting: Thursday, October 27

8:30 am, Rec Center Meeting Room The first meeting after the summer break is over, but as I write this that meeting is yet to

take place as this article has to be sent to the Happenings a month early... so I can't give you any details of coming events, just come to the meetings and catch up on the latest news & lively conversation. All visitors welcome to the meetings and at the lake when we sail the boats. Sail times are Mon. & Thur. at 10:00. The rain helped raise the water level a little, for which we are thankful. We hope the cooler weather will bring the sailors and the boats to the lake. Phillip Rea, 352-787-6694
