The Valentine’s Day parties are Friday, February 12 at 2:00 pm. Event flyers with details have been delivered to teachers and will be coming home with students. The PTA is asking for help from families to send in items to fill the treat bags that each student receives. Please send in items by Thursday, February 11 so that the room parent has time to fill the bags before the party. The PTA sponsors this event and will be providing a drink box and treat for each student. We also supply the party bags for the treats that are generously donated by the families. Party preparations for each classroom are communicated from the teacher with the help of the assigned PTA Room Parent. Due to district policy there are only 3 volunteers allowed in each classroom (one being the PTA Room Parent). The 2 remaining volunteers are selected by the teacher. Also, please be aware if there are allergies in your child’s class. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions regarding the party. Thank you in advance for your generous contributions and help in making this a special day for our kids!!

Music Department Receives Sound System Money from PTA

The PTA is excited to share that the Royalview Music Department will be purchasing a much needed new sound system for its future music concerts and programs. Thanks to the fundraising done by all the Royalview families over the year a check was delivered to Miss Stancombe, Miss Bezeredi, and Mrs. Michalski. They are really excited and thankful. We will post another picture once the sound system is delivered and installed! The PTA thanks all the families for helping us meet one of our fundraising goals this year. Your support is greatly appreciated. We hope to continue completing our goals for the rest of the year.

Dear Parents and Families:

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most. We invite you to Royalview Elementary School’s Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives. Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids as reader’s means getting involved while they’re young. Now is the time. Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement in his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair. Book Fair Dates: Monday, January 25 - Friday, January 29 Shopping Hours: Your child will shop during their normal library time. (Kids whose library time is Friday afternoon will be rescheduled to attend during the week. You will be notified if this affects your child.) You may also order online at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/royalviewelemschool. Special Events: Principal Reading Night will be Thursday, January 28 from 6:30-8pm. Come in your pajamas and enjoy a bedtime story and snack with Ms. Cantwell. *Credit Cards will be accepted.

Bring a canned good this night to support the local food bank “End 68 Hours of Hunger” and earn a raffle ticket to win a book fair prize. This group supplies food to students in our school and district.

Teacher’s Wish List: You will have an opportunity to purchase a book to donate to your child’s classroom library. We will have a bulletin board set-up with your child’s teacher’s wish list. You should receive a flyer home showing a sampling of what our Book Fair offers. Please send your child with cash/check in a sealed envelope the day their class shops. *Checks should be made out to Royalview Elementary School. There are also pens, pencils and posters available for purchase. If your child is allowed to purchase these things they must have a note stating they have your permission. ROYALVIEW ELEMENTARY PTA MEETING MINUTES – January 7, 2016

OPENING (Laura Kramer):

The meeting was called to order at 6:31P.M.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

December’s meeting minutes were approved by: Jenna Senol & Michelle

TREASURER’S REPORT (Laura Rieder):

Savings account balance $44,507.84

Checking account balance $10,821.83 (transferred money to savings)

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT (Amanda Mitchell):

The PTA received 3 Thank You cards: o From the 3

rd & 4

th Grade Team for the baskets of supplies, and kid stuff books. The PTA found a large clearance sale

on school supplies at the beginning of the year which enabled them to do this. Also given scholastic book fair gift certificates and kid stuff coupon for keeping track of the KidStuff Coupon books.

o The 5th

Grade Team for the assistance in purchasing some of the turkey’s for their feast prior to Thanksgiving.

LCC DELEGATE REPORT (Angela Buemi):

February 23rd

is Founders Days. More information to come

SCHOOL BOARD REPORT (Rena Perchinske):

Eastlake Middle School shows Lego Robotics and is going to competition with them in Akron.

Royalview sang in sign language to show how to incorporate how music falls into all the academic categories.

Everyone said goodbye to Paul Brickner who is leaving the school board.

PRINCIPALS REPORT (Ms. Cantwell & Mr. Bender):

Ms. Cantwell wished everyone a Happy New Year and thanked the PTA for purchasing a Christmas tree for the School lobby for next year.

Mr. Bender and Ms. Cantwell would like to do a similar compass challenge as done last year to give incentive to the kids to do more reading and math to prepare them for MAP testing. This will help set goals for kindergarten through 5

th grade. PTA has

always helped in previous years with the donation for the incentives. The PTA will need to meet as a board to discuss this further. A decision will be made in the next couple weeks so the program will have time to be rolled out. There is currently no budget for this and there was a donation amount of $6,000 last year. The budget can be scaled down. The program would run March through April and incentives given at the end based on who reached their goals.

Student report cards for grades 3, 4 & 5 results should have been received by parents already. The school and district reports will be out at the end of January / early February. There are already articles out there saying that the new evaluations are going to drop Ohio’s school state report cards. The schools will not be penalized for low participation but is considered incomplete student representation. This is due to students who opt out of testing. Ohio is changing the tests this year to PARCC testing. Tests will not be able to compare to previous years due to being different tests. The entire state of Ohio will look lower than previously due to the PARCC results. The results are coming out in January (7 months after taking the test). Scores will be released for graduation rates, cater through literacy improvement and preparation for success. Then in February we will get the value added and student achievement which will be the actual report card for the school.

PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Systems) is a state mandated program. Royalview Rocks is our slogan. There are many bullet points for behaviors expected in many areas (i.e. hallways, classroom, recess, cafeteria, etc.). This list is going to be decreased and streamlined to help the kids better understand the behavior expectations and how they should be the same in all areas. A state representative will help make these changes and to incorporate more positive behaviors. There will be a Zumba Dance Party for winners on January 29

th. There are monthly winners. Will have a second assembly on January 22

nd.

December and January’s focus are “Cooperation”.

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT’S

MEMBERSHIP (Joyce Keough): Up to 324 members.

SPIRIT WEAR (Laura Kramer): YTD sales $3573.00. Sales at the Extravaganza: $665.00. Next sales event will be at the Carnival and the kindergarten registration. Forms are always available for orders.

HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA (Rena Perchinske): Always be on the look out for new vendors with items below $5. Just collect business cards if you see anything of interest. Santa Pics were $5 and profited $335. Vendors brought in $635 and the PTA table brougt in $31. It was decided that the PTA table should be eliminated for the next year and items can be donated. This will also provide more room for vendors. Santa was thanked for his attendance.

WAYS & MEANS:

POPCORN (Amanda Mitchell): December day of profit was $62 and supplies cost $53. The next popcorn day 1/15.

SCHOOLA CLOTHING FUNDRAISER (Laura Kramer): YTD profit $130. The lost and found items were all just picked up and sorted through. There were minimal items with names on them. If there was a name, Laura and Amanda tried to find the owner.

FUNDRAISING TOTAL (Laura Kramer): YTD so far is little over $11,000.00.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER (Rena Perchinske): Forms went out this week and are due in by Jan 25th

. There will be no extensions. Orders will arrive for pick up on February 11

th 3:00pm – 5:45pm. Rena has a list of volunteers that offered to help

previously. With the weather being so warm, we need to be sure parents pick up their orders on time as there is nowhere to store left over orders. There was an issue with the front of the form indicating that online ordering was available, however it is not. There have been a few complaints regarding this fundraising conflicting with Girl Scout Cookie Fundraisers. There will always be a conflict with fundraising. This is the largest fundraiser and does best during January. The month of the fundraiser was changed to a different month without success.

BOOK FAIR (Angela Buemi): Parent volunteer sheets are going to the teachers tomorrow. Principle reading night is Thursday at 6:30. The book fair will be the week of January 25

th. Teachers preview is after school January 22

nd and teachers will have a

wish list form for the students to fill. Many parents look for these wish lists when they come in for the book fair, so please encourage this. Bender to place in the newsletter. The representative is trying to get us to do a 2

nd book fair due to us being

such a huge fair; if we do a 2nd

book fair they will give the PTA an additional profit of 5% from both book fairs and the 2nd

book fair will be a buy one get one free. There was $12,000 in sales at the 1

st fair and the PTA will receive 5% of those sales. It will

be difficult to schedule a 2nd

fair this year so we would have to wait and schedule it next year and maybe do a shortened version instead of a whole week long. Angela will ask the representative if other schools that started having the 2

nd fair buy

one get one free, if any sales dropped from the first fair. Ordering is available online, however taxes are required. It was suggested to do the 2

nd book fair during the Carnival next year and do them both later in the year. If kids bring in a canned

good item for the End 68 of hunger food bank, they will receive a raffle ticket for a prize.

MARCO’S PIZZA DAY: Next Pizza nights: Tues Jan 26th & Wed Jan 27

th

CARNIVAL (Jenna Senol): The Carnival is on March 5th 11a-2p. Jenna is working on a timeline for the event and will send it to

everyone next week. Kitchen help is needed. Jenna will start calling to see if other parents can do the kitchen work. If unable to obtain the necessary help, the kitchen menu will be scaled down a lot and do more simple things like pizza and walking tacos. The pizza usually comes from Cala’s with a nice discount. Jenna will work with Marco’s to see if it is cheaper to go through Marco’s in addition to obtaining more points for the online orders. Set up is needed Fri prior to the Carnival. Jenna will look for help from the high school and middle school students.

FLOWER SALE (Michelle DiCillo): Due to minimal sales and the school year ending sooner, it was decided to end this program.
