REPORT ON BACKHOE WORK IN HORWOOD TOWNSHIP
During the period from October l, 1997 to October 4, 1997, four (4) outcrop areas along a cat trail
were stripped by backhoe.
Owner and operator Roland Collins, "Collins Exploration". The stripping was carried out in
Horwood Township on claim block 120743 consisting of 8 units and on block 1224306 consisting
of 4 units covering part of Bobsled Lake in Horwood Township.
The work was supervised by Frank Renaudat Client # 186852 , P. O. Box 1092, Timmins, ON and
by C. D. MacKenzie consulting geologist, Client # 162603, 1610 Dalton Road, Timmins, ON P4N
7C2.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The Horwood Township claims can be reached by car travelling west from the city of Timmins on
Highway 101 for a distance of 43 miles, turning left on to the Kennogami road and a further 25 miles
to the claim block 1207343.
(1)
GEOLOGY OF THE CLAIM GROUP
Block 1207343 is underlain by mafic volcanics of precambrian age. These volcanics show the effect
of granitization from nearby Granite batholiths and contain local weak stock works of quartz
stringers.
These green fine grained meta- volcanics are intruded by numerous quartz feldspar porphyries. Blue
and white quartz eyes are developed up to 4mm in diameter in the quartz feldspar porphyry. Minor
quarts veining occurs and local weakly sheared pyritic zones were noted and sampled. Out of sixteen
samples taken the highest gold value obtained was 81 ppb gold. This was found in the quartz feldspar
porphyry.
However, only a small portion of the claim group was covered by the stripping program and it is
interesting to note that porphyries are present within the magnetometer high as one was found by
stripping D zone to bedrock. Fine disseminated magnetite in the dark green mafic meta volcanics
appear to be the cause of the circular magnetic high present on claim block 1224306.
Zone A, has revealed a large outcrop of white weathered quartz feldspar porphyry with a few small
quartz stringers in contact with a mafic volcanic. Only very low gold values were obtained from the
outcrop area.
Zone B, was all mafic volcanic and was cut by small quartz stringers in a weak stock works. No
significant gold values were obtained from this outcrop.
Zone C, was all quartz feldspar porphyry and was cut by a few quartz stringers. The highest gold
value was 81 ppb Au in a small quartz stringer sampled within the quartz feldspar porphyry.
(2)
Zone D, was found by digging down to bedrock in the centre of the magnetometer high. The pit was
mostly well jointed dark green mafic volcanic with disseminated magnetite and disseminated pyrite
on shear planes.
In the north end of the pit a contact with quartz feldspar porphyry was found with disseminated pyrite
values ranged from 2 ppb to 5 ppb gold.
The present work was carried out to keep block 120743 in good standing because of a recent gold
discovery about l km south of the centre of block 120743.
The discovery was made by bulldozing 8 feet of sand off a VLF anomaly in the vicinity of two aero
magnetic EM anomalies. See Aeromagnetic map of Horwood Township.
RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS
Line cutting over block 120743, and block 1224306 is recommended followed by ground
magnetometer and VLF surveys.
Mapping and further stripping of any VLF anomalies obtained is a No l priority for the claim blocks
in question followed by diamond drilling if results justify further work.
Respectfully submitted,
C. D. MacKenzie
