Right to Education Act (RTE)• Every child between the ages of 6 to 14 years has the right
to free and compulsory education. This is stated as per the 86th Constitution Amendment Act added Article 21A. The right to education act seeks to give effect to this amendment.
• The government schools shall provide free education to all the children and the schools will be managed by school management committees (SMC). Private schools shall admit at least 25% of the children in their schools without any fee.
• The National Commission for Elementary Education shall be constituted to monitor all aspects of elementary education including quality.
Role of NGO’s in RTE
• Government alone without civil society involvement cannot fully implement the RTE
• There is need to mobilise resources in favour of the Act; State Governments also have to accept a sense of urgency – Possibly NGOs and Governments have to work together to make this happen and make the Right of Education of every child a reality
• NGO’s can ensure opening of neighbourhood schools, monitoring teacher availability, and help in local redressal mechanisms with Govt. organization.
What is SVCT• Siddhartha Vashishta Charitable Trust is an ISO

For collecting the fees, books, etc. if any member from the convict’s family comes to our office, a conveyance allowance is of Rs. 50/- is also given.
VisionThe children of inmates suffer for want of education, books and medical attention as usually their earning parents are in jail and they also become stigmatic. Therefore, we at SVCT feel that it is our moral duty to try, help out & support as many families as possible. These children have done nothing wrong & deserve a chance to build their future like all other children. They should not pay for the mistakes of their parents. By helping these children, we will help to build a better society.
Objectives• To make educational and medical aid available to the
families of poor and underprivileged jail inmates
• To help develop self worth in them through interactive and educational sessions
• To help them face life with their heads held high To give them a feeling that they are not outcast from the society
• To ensure that they do not get frustrated and take to wrong ways
• To help build a secure society, which has love and forgiveness; not condemnation
Methodology• We create a database of all the families of the poor and
underprivileged jail inmates
• We provide education and medical help to the children of the jail inmates
• We conduct effective events and interactive sessions to counsel them as to how to go forward in life
• In case the person in jail was the only earning member in the family, we provide adequate job opportunities and professional training complete with valid certifications to someone who can earn in his family
• We also set up adequate medical camps to treat the families free of cost or at nominal costs within their localities
Achievement by SVCT
• In the first year itself the Human Touch Child Education program took up the educational responsibility of 91 children of 44 convicts and provided them with school fees, school bags, books, stationeries, uniform for both winter/summer along with shoes.
• In the subsequent year the number of children of convicts supported by the human touch child education program increased greatly and the number of children being supported by the trust today stands at 369 students. In this year the Trust has also extend their helping hand to those students who want to pursue graduation/post graduation and other professional courses, so that they can establish themselves and can support there families.
