EXTRA: HOW TO BEHAVE ON A FIELD TRIP

Field Trip Etiquette Carefully read the permission slip, and bring what is requested. If this causes a difficulty, discuss this with your teacher a day or so before the trip. Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the departure time. Make sure that you’ve gone to the bathroom, and are ready for the trip. There will be a stop midpoint to use the facilities, and to purchase drinks/snacks. Dress appropriately. Wear sturdy walking shoes, clean clothes, and look your best. Bring a jacket if it’s cool. Wear sunscreen if it’s sunny. Remove your hat when you enter a building. Please silent your cell phones. Remember that all electronics that you bring are your responsibility. The school or teachers are not responsible if it is lost, damaged, or stolen. Please do not take electronics off of the bus. Remain seated at all times on the bus. Talk in quiet tones to those sitting near you. Keep your feet on the floor. Keep your hands/arms inside the windows at all times. When leaving the bus, gather any trash that is around you, and dispose of in a trash can. Do not rush to get out of the bus. Be courteous to those around you. Walk quietly up and down any stairs. Please do not run, hang over banisters, or make loud noises. Remember, we are representing our school and families. Listen carefully to the guide. If she/he asks you to gather around, please move forward, but do not push others. Please do not talk while he/she is speaking. Listen to the instructions of the guide and/or your teacher. If we are asked to be seated during any time, quietly take a seat, and keep your feet on the floor. Please do not put your feet on the backs of another seat. Speak in hushed tones at all times. Please keep your hands and feet to yourself at all times. If you are asked if you have any questions, politely raise your hand, and ask relevant questions. Listen carefully so you don’t ask a question that has already been answered or asked by another. If you choose to purchase anything during the day, quickly make your selection, stand quietly in line, and have your money ready to pay. Remember to say “thank you” and “please”. When we eat lunch, please get your lunch and other items you may need before leaving the bus. Pick up all of your trash and dispose of properly. If you have to visit the restroom or make any trips away from the group, please get permission first, and always take a buddy. Do not leave with anyone under any circumstances. Immediately seek out your teacher or principal if you are approached by an unknown adult.
