Small Package, Big Blessing

E very year, churches prepare for a summer event affectionately called, “Vacation Bible School.” Some children’s ministries begin as early as January, planning and preparing for that summers’ VBS.

When the theme is finally chosen, the dates finally set and the volun-teers are finally recruited, the hours of hard work pay off when the chil-

dren arrive and lives are changed.

“ Vacation Bible School is not only good for the kids, but everyone involved,” Pastor George Goynes, Jr. of First Baptist Church, Doddridge, AR said. “It’s fun to watch as all the workers come to-gether. It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and it’s as exciting as the

first day of school.”

O n June 19th, Pastor George’s 156 year old church hosted an “Amazing Wonders Avia-

tion” event for 41 children, where two children were saved. Sixty eight individuals attended daily through the week, singing praise songs, creating art work and learn-

ing valuable life lessons from the Bible. The small country church has av-eraged around 89 on Sunday mornings this year and continues to grow,

adding 35 new members, 22 of them being salvations this year alone.

“ When I came on board, the core group of members got fired up for their community,” Pastor

George said. “They knew people that were not attending church and they began inviting them. We have seen people who no one ever thought

would get saved heart’s change.”

E very year, the church chooses a ministry to bless in a contest between the boys and girls. Dur-ing “Amazing Wonders Aviation

2012,” FBC Doddridge landed on Runnin’ WJ Ranch as their ministry

to support.

“ Our church has adopted Runnin’ WJ as a mission already,” Pastor George said. “This is a great opportunity to teach our children that there are other organizations out there that reach people for Christ

and they often need funding to do so. It’s very scriptural. Paul encour-

aged the Church at Antioch to give to the Church in Jerusalem.”

T his year at FBC Doddridge, the girls far outnumbered the boys, but

that didn’t discourage the guys in the competition.

“ One night, we found a $100 bill in there with the boys donations,”

Pastor George said. “We still don’t know who gave that $100 bill.”

A lthough the competition was tight, the boys and girls tied in their race to

raise as much money as possible for Runnin’ WJ. Between the 68 participants, FBC Doddridge raised $833.74 for the Ranch, the largest VBS giving for Runnin’ WJ this year, second being First Baptist Church, Hooks, TX which raised $556, proving “big bless-ings” can often come from

“small packages.”- WJ

Every year during the annual Four States Fair and Rodeo, the Fair-grounds hosts area schools for a day of special rodeo themed activi-ties for preschool aged children and students with special needs. From face painting to racing around miniature barrels on stick hors-

es, the kids participate in fun activities designed just for them. Runnin’ WJ Ranch transported two Ranch horses for the children to pet and groom and gave each child a special Runnin’ WJ bracelet to take home. The day proved to be fun-filled for everyone as the Ranch staff witnessed the smiles of many children.

Collom and Carney Association Employee and Family Barn Bash On September, 29th, Collom and Carney employees and their families came to the Ranch for a night of dinner and dancing’. Despite the rain, the children enjoyed bounce houses and bin-go and the adults enjoyed dancing the do-si-do. We appreciate Collom and Carney’s commit-

ment to the community and are glad we were able to have a memorable evening together.
