Le Sommet student sets record at EOSSAA ski competition PEMBROKE On February 3, the East- ern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Asso- ciation (OESSAA) held its cross-country skiing competition. Alexandre Dupuis, a student at Le Som- met high school com- pleted the six-kilome- tre course in a record time of 7 minutes and 54 seconds, setting a new record. A rare event took place at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club this season, when an eight-ender was scored. This has happened only seven times in the history of the club. The executive of the curling club have been successful in acquiring a $40,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the new en-trance at the curling club, which will house a wheelchair lift and a building for the new ice compressor.

This addition will be a major improvement for the club, as it is to include a large washroom upstairs. Construction should start by the end of April.

The team defeated the Canterbury Tro-jans, West End Scorpions, West End Wolver-ines, South End Capitals and finally, the Otta-wa East Flames 4-3 in the finals. A total of 32 teams participated in this tournament
