The liturgy celebrated at St. Rose follows the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, and employs primarily the ancient Latin language. Welcome to historic St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church! Built over a century ago, we all owe a debt of gratitude to the Irish faithful who were the first to call this church their parish. For apart from the countless sacrifices made by that first generation of faithful to build a suitable house of prayer and divine worship for the greater glory of God, this beautiful church would not exist.

Our beautiful stained glass windows, perhaps the most stunning feature of the church, have been newly restored. Rendered in the Munich Pictorial style, they depict scenes from the life of Christ as well as images of various angels and saints.

The careful observer will discern elements from the Gothic, Romanesque, and Byzantine styles which together make up the style known as Venetian Gothic. Bishop Paprocki consecrated the new main and side altars in 2012 and established the church as a personal parish on New Years Day, 2014.

The liturgy celebrated at St. Rose follows the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, and employs primarily the ancient Latin language. On Sundays, translations of both the ordinary and propers of the Mass are provided. To follow daily Mass you may wish to invest in a daily Latin English Missal available at the rectory or download an app like IMass. Internet access is available in church at StRoseChurch (password: latinmass). Make sure to mute your device while in church. Also, St. Rose’s state-of-the-art heating and cooling system assures a comfortable environment year round in which to pray and worship.

In the bulletin this week you will find a copy of a

simplified financial report for the past fiscal year. You will

notice that our cash balance as of June 30, 2017 is much

less than a year beforehand, a shortfall of about $35,000.

The reason is that in the preceding fiscal year we benefited

of a very generous gift as well as a sizeable bequest which

helped us finance major projects such as the church roof

and new heating and cooling system of the church.

Although we did not have projects as expensive as the

preceding year, we still spent a considerable amount on

construction, repairs, and equipment (about $63,000). We

had to replaced our hall dishwasher and refrigerator as

well as install a new boiler and cooling system for the

basement of the hall. A more efficient and less conspicuous

lighting was installed in the choir loft. Outdated breakers

were replaced. Outdoor lighting was updated with

economical LED lights to make our campus safer at night.

An outside lighting system of our bell tower was installed.

It is usually lit in the evening until midnight. Much needed

concrete work was done to fix our sidewalks, church steps

and garage floor. The windows of the rectory were

repainted and new storm windows installed. I hope you like

the new color (hunter green) which contrasts better with

the yellow bricks than the preceding yellow color.

Looking forward to this ongoing fiscal year, we expect

some savings in salaries since there will be only one priest

at St. Rose this year. We expect savings in our telephone

bill as we got rid of our fax line and are now using a more

economical service. We can still send and receive faxes on

our remaining telephone line.

Our major project this year is the renovation of our pipe

organ as explained last Sunday. We have raised over half

our goal to complete the project. The actual work will start

this fall. The organ will be moved off site so we can do some

work in the choir loft (floor refinishing) and underneath

(new lighting system). While our pipe organ is in the shop,

we will move the electronic organ which is currently on the

main floor of the hall to the church. It is a church organ.

All parishioners are urged to contribute something to this

project either under the form of a commitment or a one

time donation. We will keep you informed of the progress

each week in the bulletin (see next page). Thank you to

those who have already made a gift or a pledge. No pledge

or gift is too small.

May God bless you and reward you for your generosity!
