Respect Resilience Responsibility Kindness

For the first four weeks of Term 4, I will be at school 3 days per week. In my ab-

sence, Cathie Brooks will be available to answer any questions and sort out any

issues. Cathie can be contacted at the school office on Tuesday and Thursday. A

sincere thank you to Cathie for taking on this role.

School Review

As you would be aware, Warrandyte Primary School will conduct a school review

early next year. All government schools complete a review every four years. Prepa-

rations have begun; our first task to complete a pre-review self-evaluation. On

Wednesday, staff spent the day analysing data from the previous four years to re-

flect on our progress, establish areas of success and areas for improvement. The

review not only provides the school community an opportunity to celebrate school

achievements but the findings will set the direction for the next four years. Repre-

sentatives from staff, School Council, Principal class (from other schools), Educa-

tion Department and an independent reviewer will sit on a review panel. During

Term 1, the review panel will meet for a Validation Day and a number of fieldwork

days culminating in a report presented by our school reviewer and a new Strategic

Plan will be established.

2020 Class Structure

We are currently working on our class structures and student combinations for

next year. Changes in student numbers and staffing sometimes cause us to re-

shape our proposed class structures several times throughout this term. It can also

be a challenging task, given our small numbers, which doesn’t allow for too much

flexibility.

It is vital that we are made aware of any circumstances that may impact on our

enrolment numbers. Please let us know if you intend to enrol a child at our school,

if you are aware of people in our community who will be enrolling, or if you intend

to move or transfer to another school. We require this information as soon as

possible in order to establish class structures for the start of the new year.

If you will not be at Warrandyte Primary School in 2020, please notify the school

office in writing immediately.

Lunch Club

Last Friday a new initiative called “Lunch Club”, was started in the library. It will happen every Fri-

day between 1.15 – 1.45pm. Each week there will be a different focus, and this week it will be

Arts and Crafts. This is an opportunity for students who want some quiet time out of the yard to participate in a vari-

ety of games and activities. Students from all grades are welcome. A very big thankyou to both Kyla Lim and Andrea

Pope for organising the program and making our first “Lunch Club” such a success.

Performing Arts News Weekend rehearsals

Congratulations to the Year 6 students who attended the first weekend rehearsal in the Bampi last Sunday. The commitment, responsibility and team-work demonstrated was most impressive. A special thank-you to Cathie Brooks for kindly volunteering her time to assist with supervision. Our next Sunday rehearsal is October 27. Please make sure you check the roster on Compass for all rehearsal details up until our November 27 performance.

Props Assistance

Thank you to the families who have offered to assist with creating and sourcing props for our show. We still require a number of set items, so please refer to the list posted on Compass to see if you can help.

Ticket Sales

This year, the staff at George Wood Performing Arts Centre have requested we use online ticket sales company eventtix (who are famliar with the new seating layout of their theatre). Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Mon-day, October 28 at a cost of $20 (plus booking fee). The special link to our event will be posted on Compass in the near future.

Singing with Susanna Wailes

Over the next few weeks, our lead cast are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with experienced vocal coach Susanna Wailes. Susanna is an accomplished pianist and singing teacher who will guide the students through the challenges of preparing for solo stage singing in “Beauty and the Beast”. Students in Year 4 – 6 at WPS can be tutored after school by Susanna in voice and piano through the Community Music program. Enrolment forms are at the office.

Students with a special performing arts talent who will be attend-ing a Victorian Government school in 2020 can register to attend an audition for the main State Schools Spectacular cast as a musician, dancer or vocalist from Monday, October 14. (Please note that this is separate from the Mass Dance and Mass Choir audition process which is conducted internally by registered schools). Registration for the lead cast is via this link

Sport News District Volleyball

Congratulations to our very talented Girls and Boys volleyball teams who have both became the Tem-plestowe District Premiers.

Last Friday at Milgate Primary both teams had to play 5 matches. Both teams were undefeated on the day and only lost one set each.

What a fabulous effort, now they play this Friday in the Division final against Donburn Primary school and Donvale Primary school.

We wish these teams luck, if they are successful this Friday they go on to the Eastern Region finals.

Thank you again to the parents who are helping to transport and support these students through these finals.

District Basketball

Well done to our Girls and Boys basketball teams who competed on Tuesday in the District Basketball Round Robin. Although the competition proved very challenging our students performed very well and didn't give up.

Thank you to the parents who drove and coached on the day, Leanne, Kim, Dee and Susie. A special thank you to Sue who stepped in at the last minute to drive the girls.

Eastern Region Athletics

We wish Amy (grade 6) all the best today as she is competing in the Long Jump at the Regional Athletics finals.

Go Amy!!

OSHC News This week has been full of fun activities and group games! We got back into baking this week, with a lovely chocolate cake which we all shared for afternoon tea. Next week we are planning to do more baking as we love having homemade treats for afternoon tea. We have many board game sessions planned, as well as fun games such as ‘night at the museum’ and ‘the floor is lava’ - two favourites this term. We are also going to be creating artworks with paint and shaving cream and others with tissue paper. We will also be having a party to celebrate Halloween! Come join us, info below!
