Parish News:
Front Wall Update Our project has begun! During the time of demolition and construction on the front wall of the church, access to the church will depend on whether it is the weekend or a weekday. To access the church during the week, such as for daily Mass or simply to pray in the church, please enter and exit the church through the side entrance next to the office. For weekend Masses, you can enter and exit the church through either the side entrance or the main front entrance. The elevator will be available for use during the weekend Masses. Even though there is construction going on, we will continue to have the church open so you can stop in to pray.
Thank you to everyone who has so generously given to this project. We have received just over $90,000 of the estimated cost of $142,871. If you have not made a pledge yet or given to the project, it is not too late. As you can see, we are still in need of more funds. However, we are able to begin the project now, thanks to a very generous loan from an anonymous parishioner. We will need to pay this loan back, so it is important to make sure to fulfill the pledges that you made for this project. Also, if you are able, please continue to give additional funds towards our front wall project. Finally, the power of prayer is great, so please continue to pray for success in raising the necessary funds, along with praying for the workers and the decision makers. We will keep you posted through regular updates in the bulletin as the project moves forward.
Coffee & Rolls St. Theresa’s Circle will be hosting Coffee & Rolls after Mass this Sunday, July 29. Please plan to join us for delicious treats and great fellowship.

Bible Study - Who was Peter?
A poor fisherman? An impetuous student? A bungling disciple? A coward who became the “rock” of the Church? Find out the answers during our next Bible study using Lectio: Peter, the Cornerstone of Catholicism. Ten fascinating sessions explore the life of Peter and his relevance to our lives. Presented by Dr. Tim Gray who is renowned for using the Bible, History & Sacred Tradition and Art to present a fresh perspective on the Catholic Faith. We will begin this study on Sunday, September 9. The Bible Study Group meets Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm in the Social Hall. We would love to have new members join us. We will use the video presentations, group discussion and personal reflection to dive deeper into knowing the life of Peter. There is no pressure to be there every week as you can access videos online when you are unable to attend.
Want to learn more about your Catholic Faith?
On Sunday evenings at 6:30, during July and August, we will gather as a group in the Social Hall to learn more about our Catholic faith using FORMED and Fr. Mike Schmitz’s videos. We’ll start the evening with prayer, then move into the topic/video of the night, followed by group discussion. This will be very informal and there will be no pressure to talk; you’re invited to come and just listen, too, if that’s what you prefer. Bring any questions or top-ics that interest you for future meetings. No obligation to attend every time – just come when you can. The more, the merrier!

Fr. Steve’s Prayer for Consideration:
“O God, protector of those who hope in you, without whom nothing has firm foundation, nothing is
holy, bestow in abundance your mercy upon us and grant that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may
use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now to those that ever endure. Through
our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives…” -Collect from the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Sunday’s Collect (opening prayer) at Mass is filled with lots of phrases that could make for fruitful prayer and meditation. I would like to highlight just three. First, notice that as we are describing who God is, we state that without God, nothing has firm foundation or is holy. Let’s step back and think about that for a moment: nothing in our lives has firm foundation without God. That
includes things like our family relationships, our jobs, our possessions, our hopes and plans. God is meant to be the center of our lives; if He is not, then we are setting ourselves up for a fall. Secondly, with God, nothing is holy. It’s important to remember that we measure holiness by a thing or a person’s relation to God. God is the source of holiness, of goodness, of love. So, a person who is holy is close to God, imitates God, lives his or her life in relationship with God. Likewise, a thing which is holy, such as a blessed cross or statue, is holy because God’s blessing has been invoked upon it. Second, we ask God that He be our “ruler and guide.” Now, I would imagine that most of us do not have an issue with the idea of God being our guide through life. After all, Jesus says that He is the way to the Father. We hope that God will guide us, protect us, keep us safe and be near to us always. But what about the idea that God is our ruler? Ask yourself: does saying that God is the ruler of my life cause my feathers to ruffle a bit? The reason that it might is that our world is constantly trying to convince us that we are the masters of our own lives, that we can and should do whatever we want in life, and that no one can tell us how to live our lives. But the Christian is different; the Christian surrenders his or her life to God and allows God to have control. This is completely opposite of what the world thinks is important. But the truth is that we are not in control of our lives. Sadly, we are reminded of this on a regular basis when we read about or even experience tragedies in our lives. We are not the masters of our lives. Peace comes from allowing God to rule our life, to be in charge, to be Lord of our hearts. Finally, the last phrase of the prayer may seem a bit odd: “(Grant that) we may use the good things that pass in such a way as to hold fast even now to those that ever endure.” What this phrase is asking is that God will help us to keep our priorities straight, and to remember that this life, with all its pleasures, possessions, hobbies, tasks, work and joys, is not all that there is. This world, this life is not the be all and end all of our existence- we were created for more, we are called to eternal life in Heaven with God! The final phrase of this prayer asks God to help us to always remember that. It is asking God that while we live in this world and use the things of this world, we may not become overly attached to the things, relationships, pleasures and powers of this world. Rather, we pray that we may keep focused on the goal and hold on tight to those things that will endure forever, especially our relationship with God. This is not easy, as again, the world often tells us to focus just on the here and now- to squeeze as much pleasure, power and money out of this life as we can. But we are called to more. The Christian is meant to live in this world, but not be of this world. We belong to Christ! Let’s make sure that we live that way. God bless you! ~ Fr. Steve

Catholic Tidbits: Priestly Vestments
Continuing our discussion on the purpose and symbolism of the vestments that the priest wears for the celebration of Mass, this week we consider the cincture. The cincture is a braided rope, worn around the waist by the priest as a sort of belt. It is typically white, or other colors may be worn by the priest to match the color of the vestment that he is wearing that day. The cincture is a reminder to the priest of his promise of celibacy, and his need to be pure in thought, word and deed, and especially his intention to be focused and pure of mind and heart during the celebration of Mass. It is meant to be also a reminder of his need for self-mastery and discipline. The prayer that the priest prays as he puts on the cincture makes this clear: “Gird me, O Lord, with the girdle (cincture) of purity, and extinguish in me all evil desires, that the virtue of chastity may abide in me.”
Mass with Prayers for Healing
A Mass with prayers for healing is being held Monday, July 30 at 6 pm at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. 4th St., Duluth. Adoration will be available 11 am- 4 pm that day with confessions offered 1 pm-3 pm and after the 6 pm Mass. Priests and deacons will be available to pray with individuals following the Mass for all who desire it. For more details on what this event is about, check out the bulletin board at the entrance of the church.
Holy Spirit, Two Harbors
Parish Family Meeting: Your input is needed!
Fr. Steve is hosting a town-hall style parish meeting
TODAY, Sunday, July 29, immediately following the
11:00 Mass in the social hall to discuss exciting
solutions/ideas to some upkeep needs.
All parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend!
Get a taste of Camp Survive
Parents who have children going to Camp Survive,
along with any other interested adult parishioners, are
invited to join us Thursday, Aug. 9th at 7:00 pm for a
time to experience just a bit of what the students at
camp experience, followed by a discussion on what to
expect when the kids return and how to help them
further develop their relationship with Jesus.
Calling Catholic Moms
We’re starting a mom’s group at Holy Spirit! Watch
for our Fall start date.
Parish Roster Updates
If you did not have your photo taken for the last
directory, you might receive a call from the parish
office asking about your status with the church. We
realize that parishioners often forget to tell the church
when they move, update phone numbers, or if
someone has died. Please be assured these calls are
NOT a check of your faith or attendance, but an effort
to make sure our records are up-to-date and that we
are properly ministering to you, our parishioners.
Do you know someone who can’t get to Mass?
If you are aware of any people who used to attend
Mass who are no longer able to get here for whatever
reason, please, let us know. We want to reach out to
them and make sure their spiritual needs are being
met. You can email or call Cassi (see the front of the
bulletin) and she will make sure they are contacted.
Habitat for Humanity
Do you know a senior citizen in need of work done to
the outside of their home? Habitat for Humanity has
money and a crew to do work in Two Harbors! They
are looking for people that they can give to. Work can
include ramp building/mobility access, deck and
railing repairs, landscaping and yard work, painting,
etc. To apply as a recipient, visit twinporthabitat.org
or call 218-722-3875 Ext. 407. Applications are also
available in the parish office.

praying of the Rosary on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of
every month at 6:30 pm in the church basement. There's
no formal agenda, so simply come (and bring friends).
Free Resources
Holy Spirit has several resources for you to explore
the faith from home. The brochure rack and shelves in
the entrance of the church are full of free resources
and the library contains over 100 books and CDs for
you to check out. The library is located in the corner
of the social hall (downstairs).
Cassi’s Corner—The source of beauty
Imagine for a moment, one time you saw something
so beautiful it made you pause to take it in. Perhaps it
was a sunset over our beautiful lake, or a building so
exquisite every detail appeared to have been thought
out, or maybe it was a piece of art that captured
something words couldn’t express. The interesting
thing about beauty is that it always points to
something outside of ourselves. Actually, if we trace
beauty to its origin, we find it always traces back to
God because truth, beauty, and goodness come from
Him alone and are traits of Him. That’s why it’s not
surprising to hear an artist say that pieces sort of
reveal themselves. This is one reason why I’m so
excited for our parish meeting today! Our parish has
so many elements of beauty—the stain glass
windows, the organ, the statues, etc.—and we have
the opportunity now to enhance that beauty with the
upkeep that is needed so all who come here can more
fully experience a beauty that points them to God.
