This month’s word of “Word-Association” is “season.” Perhaps you think of deer season, dove season, any other hunting season, football season. I was told not long after arriving in Victoria that we really only have 2 seasons, Summer and “not quite” Summer. Well, as this New Year is upon us, we will be entering another season in our country, one that brings out the very best and very worst in America, another Presidential election season. Regardless of your ideas on all that, I want to suggest that you make this New Year a season of prayer. Our country is in desperate need of a move of God, and I mean a cross country might awakening move of God. But until the church (that’s you and me) get serious about seeking Him, serving Him and being humble before Him, we won’t see it. And if we are not serious about being His children and walking in holiness and righteousness, then our country has no hope. It’s a quaint saying that “Jesus is the only hope for America” but when will we really begin to live that? It is past time for the church to arise and be serious about showing the world that Jesus makes a difference. Will you? Will you enter the New Year with a revived attitude to live humbly before the Lord and boldly before the world? Prayer, serious, intentional, Bible based, humble prayer as James 5:16 tells us “can accomplish much.” Folks, we need that “much” to be now. A season of prayer, a good idea for the New Year.

BSM Winter RetreatBSM students will have the opportunity to go on a winter retreat in January at Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios. It will be January 3-4. Students will have a chance to relax and refresh before the semester starts back up. On Saturday we will have Robert Hooker from Texas Baptist doing a session on campus evangelism with us.
