When I put them on, everything becomes clear. The fact is, we all have different lenses through which we view the world: We have our political glasses, our religious glasses, and the glasses of our past experiences. We have glasses that cause us to read things as a parent or a spouse, a boss or an employee. Each pair of glasses we wear affects our perspective and how we interact with the world. I wonder, what would happen if we really began to look at the world through God’s eyes? If we looked through God-colored glasses and saw people as God sees them and loved people as God loves them? Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.” Jesus called us to reach out and make a difference for Jesus Christ. But that only happens as we intentionally engage our community. Over the next few months, our church is offering three opportunities to invest in our community. First, with the beginning of the new school year, we will continue our Crosby Elementary outreach. Last year, we adopted five classes: 1 first grade, 2 third grade, and 2 fifth grade. Teams were in the school each week, providing resources, assisting teachers, and loving students for the sake of Jesus Christ. The goal is to build relationships that will eventually open doors for sharing our faith. I would encourage all of you to make it a priority to pray for the students and the teachers at Crosby. I would also ask, once again, that you provide donations of school supplies, especially dry erase markers, paper towels, and Lysol wipes. We will keep a box labeled "School Supplies" in the church office where you can drop these off. In addition, I ask you to prayerfully consider being part of one of the teams that go to the school each week. In general, you are looking at about 2 hours a month in the school. It would be amazing if we could get enough people involved to take on more classes or even the whole school! 1 Stre ams of Life To boldly make and nurture disciples of Jesus Christ 9700 Dry Fork Road, Harrison, OH 45030 Phone: 513-367-4990 E-mail: [email protected] Web: mymw.org Pastor Justin Fuhrmann

Take a moment with me to consider the power of an ordinary pair of glasses. Glasses have the power to change our perspective and our world. When I take my glasses off, the world is fuzzy and unclear. But that only happens as we intentionally engage our community.Over the next few months, our church is offering three opportunities to invest in our community. It would be amazing if we could get enough people involved to take on more classes or even the whole school!Second, on Saturday, September 8, we will have our 12th Annual Benefit Car, Bike, and Truck Show to support single mothers in our community. Last year we gave out one car and fixed up a second. We also used funds to make a donation to the Reach Out Pregnancy Center. The impact that this ministry makes on the lives of mothers, children, and families in our community is deeply needed and appreciated. If you’ve never been a part of the event before, I encourage you to get involved! See how God will use you! Finally, on Saturday, September 15, Christians, churches, businesses, and the schools are coming together across the Harrison community (and the entire Southwest School District) to make a difference. The schools have even made it a requirement for all student athletes and cancelled all sporting events that day! Projects include assembling hygiene kits, the construction of lending libraries, fixing up playgrounds and ball diamonds, roadside/ community cleanup and landscaping,

food and clothing drives, community gardens, installation of wheelchair ramps, painting, and setting up geocaching courses, among others. There is something for everyone. It would be powerful if we could get a large number of folks involved from Miami Whitewater and show our community what it means to really care. After all, one of our priorities for the year is community outreach and involvement, so let’s go and be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ! MEN’S MINISTRY

Thursday Evening - How about enjoying a snack from the grill or a lite supper before getting into God's word. Every Thursday at the Old Farmhouse we eat at 6:00pm and then get into a Bible Study at 6:30pm. Come join in any Thursday. Car Show - We had our first planning session and are in need of many more volunteers. Be sure to put the second Saturday in September on your calendar. This is a great event benefitting the Community. Through the profits from the Car Show we are able to make a donation to the Harrison Outreach Pregnancy Center, as well as provide funding for our CAR PROGRAM, which benefits single Mothers in need of Transportation help. This is a year-round program. We have been able to bless a single mom with a car at least once every year since we started the program. We also help other moms throughout the year with car repairs as our budget allows. Saturday Breakfast - We meet the fourth Saturday of every month at 8:00am at the Old Farmhouse. It doesn't matter what the weather is, we always have a warm, hearty breakfast. Outside if you prefer, or inside, we have a seat for you. After the fellowship and breakfast, we have a short devotion. It's always a great way to start your weekend. The food is always free. We do take up a collection to help the Missions that we support.

Math Life Lesson #6 - "Don't be afraid to ask questions." We all know in life that we occasionally come across a problem or situation that we haven't seen before. It's okay to ask others. Maybe someone older with experience, maybe someone younger with experience (especially if it's technology related), maybe ask your boss, a co-worker or teacher. Being able to realize and admit that sometimes you don't know the answer is an important life skill. And while you are asking, remember to Pray.

"Ask and it will be given to you." Matthew 7:7 Hope you are enjoying your summer! Peace in Christ,

Joe Kihm

Intentional Discipleship Is “Growing Disciples”

On August 5th, Sunday evening at 6:00pm, Miami Whitewater UMC will be hosting the movie "I Can Only Imagine" for the community of Harrison. This movie is a box office hit staring J. Michael Finley, Dennis Quaid, Priscilla Shirer, Cloris Leachman, Trace Adkins and Madeline Carroll.

This movie will kick off a four-week small group study held every other Sunday evening about a loving father, forgiveness, redemption and going home one day. The small group study will be August 12 th, August 26th, September 9th, and wrap up September 23rd. The study begins at 5:30pm and ends at 7:30pm.

The song was written by Bart Millard of Mercy Me and this is his real-life story. A song that took Bart 10 minutes to write, but a lifetime to live. "I Can Only Imagine" was an amazing song that was not only popular with the Christian listeners, but one of the few songs that crossed over into the pop charts and became a multi-platinum selling success.

This movie is about hope, forgiveness, redemption and going home. It's hard to imagine hope when you feel rejected, guilty or broken. Maybe you've lost someone. Maybe you've done something that feels unforgivable. Maybe you've experienced something unthinkable. Bart Millard suffered a painful childhood. Just like Bart, we all need to be able to see hope through Jesus.

Brokenness is a part of our journey of life. Somewhere along the way we will experience brokenness. It is hard to imagine a loving father when we are broken.

I hope you will join us for this movie. We all need to know the hope we have in Jesus.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for the movie and/or small group study, contact me at 513-290-4749 or by email [email protected].

In His Love,

Joan Hittinger

ii. Applications to be submitted prior to August 1iii. See the July newsletter for Job Description

d. Fall Retreat i. To be held during weekend of September 29

e. Financial: End of Year projection

2. Financial: End of Year projection - The good news is that this projection shows that we should end the year on budget despite that Giving to the General Budget is less than the budget assumed. This is due to our Ministry Leaders being able to manage spending below their budgeted amount. Thank You! The bad news is that the budget planned on is consuming approximately $100,000 ($65,000 for Parking Lot and $32,000 for the General Budget) from our Savings. The 2019 SLB challenge is to develop a Budget that is balanced or at least close to being balanced.

3. We continue the multi-month process of reviewing the Guidelines, Policies and Procedures, and Job Descriptions that are relevant to SLB work.

News from the United Methodist WomenOur next meeting will be on Monday, August 16. MAKE NOTE OF THE

TIME: IT’S AT 6:30pm SHARP!! We have a special program planned for you – a presentation by MR. JACK BERNINGER, speaking on “WHAT ORGANISMS (Animals) THINK AND FEEL.” Should be quite interesting. Program will start on time so we can enjoy it, have our refreshments, our business meeting, and get home early. Please be on time so as not to interrupt the program. We are looking ahead to the BAZAAR. Sign-up sheets have already started for the food donations and for help in each section, so if you have a particular place you would like to help out, now is the time to sign up. We are in need of someone to take over the Gourmet Booth. This booth is extremely important as it is always a big part of the success of the Bazaar. No experience needed – we will train on the job! If you are an experienced crafter (even semi-experienced), Karen will be needing items for the craft booth. All types of sewing, knitting or crocheting items are needed, so get those hands limbered up. Any other type of craft item is also welcome (see Karen Kilgo). Don’t forget the Christmas items. Anything Christmas will do, especially ornaments – everyone loves ornaments! I started gathering “stuff” last Christmas, and I’m still working on it (see Marilyn McKnight). We are collecting jewelry and jewelry boxes for the gift booth. Good stuff, please – something you would like to receive. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just nice. Any other items that you don’t use anymore that would be suitable for a gift, please save them for us – glassware, collectables, gifts you yourself have received but not used, etc. (see Rosie Bauer).NOTE OF IMPORTANCE: Officers will be needed for next year, so we need you to seriously consider stepping out and either volunteering yourself or nominating someone else (with their permission, of course). Please pray on it – an organization must have leaders or it ceases to exist. We, as your unit officers, are praying for God’s guidance as to what our future is to be as United Methodist Women here at MW. PRAY ON IT WITH US!Until next month, blessings from your officers.

There is a new sign on the kitchen door. Please start closing the door every day, except on Sundays. It keeps the hot air from the ice maker in the kitchen and not out in the hallway where it’s air conditioned.

The Transformed Youth and Family Center is having a Summer Bash on Saturday, July 28 from 11:00am to 6:00pm at Crosby. There will be water slides so all children are invited, but toddlers must have parental supervision. There is no cost, so come on out and enjoy the fun.

We will be having another Women’s Breakfast on Saturday, August 4th from 9:00am to 10:30am. Don’t forget to read Chapter 4 in the book. I will send out a reminder email to all the women who signed up to bring food and drinks for the breakfast. If you have any questions, please see me or Clarien.

We will be showing the movie “I Can Only Imagine” on Sunday, August 5 th at 6:00pm at the church. This will be open to the public, so we need volunteers to pop popcorn, take tickets, show people into the sanctuary, etc. If you can help, please see Joan Hittinger or call her at 513-290-4749.

We are no longer using the “gospel” acrostic for our House Values. Please check the back of the bulletin to see what the new “Core Values” are. They are in the purple box.

Please remember to pray for those on the weekly prayer list and those in the weekly email blast. If you don’t currently receive the prayer list or email blast and would like to, please let me know, because as we all know, prayers work wonders and we all need them!

As we look ahead to the future,

Remember, the Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel.
