70 The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick celebrates God’s gifts of hope, strength and healing, life and friendship with God the Father, with Jesus and with one another. The celebration uses: actions – anointing words – prayers and symbols – oil, sign of the cross. Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT WITHIN MASS Sometimes the celebration takes place within a Mass for all the sick people and their families and friends. Often the celebration is for one sick person in hospital or at home. The priest welcomes everyone: “We have come together to celebrate the sacraments of Anointing and the Eucharist. Christ is always present when we gather in his name; today we welcome him especially as physician and healer. We pray that the sick may be restored to health by the gift of his mercy and made whole in his fulness.”
