DESCRIPTION

Artistic Directors Ron Cunningham and Carinne Binda have announced a Sacramento Ballet 2011-2012 season that promises enough thrills, chills and frills to satisfy every age, taste and interest. With a tip of the hat to the story ballets, the Company will feature some of its most popular works, along with new choreography by some of the country’s most eclectic and exciting choreographers. You will be able to enjoy the gothic chills of Dracula, just in time for Halloween; live the fairytale all over again with a Valentine’s Weekend presentation of Cinderella; enjoy the sheer exuberance of a Modern Masters that truly “rocks”; share the holiday wonder of The Nutcracker, and take part in numerous behind-the-scenes opportunities to see the dancers up-close-and-personal in studio performances.

Dear friends, Carinne and I are excited to announce an extraordinary season of dance destined to thrill, exhilarate, and move you. From timeless classics, to beloved fairy tales and new creations, our remarkable dancers are primed to deliver performances with passionate artistry.

In October, we present the darkly erotic Dracula, a tale of seduction, mystery, and drama based on the Gothic novel by Bram Stoker. Also on the program are George Balanchine’s first American masterpiece Serenade and Trey McIntyre’s spiritually uplifting Second Before the Ground to African inspired music. Cinderella returns to the stage in February for the first time since 1997. Created in 1979 for the Boston Ballet, my version of this fairy tale classic was the first American Ballet ever to be performed in the People’s Republic of China where it was televised to over 30 million viewers. It has played to enthusiastic audiences in major cities throughout the world including; Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Milan, Rome, Aix-en-Provence, Nice, and many more.

Septime Webre’s sassy and irreverent Fluctuating Hemlines, with Tigger Benford’s live percussion ensemble, anchors our bold and intrepid Modern Masters series at the beautiful state-of-the-art Three Stages at Folsom Lake College. Yet to be announced are more of the Nation’s most talked about choreographers to complete a program of innovative and startling imagination.

And, no season is complete without Sacramento’s favorite holiday tradition, The Nutcracker. Experience the magic again and again to create family memories that last a lifetime.

This year, we’re going green, so our full Subscription Brochure is in a digital format on our website. Be sure to visit us often on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter to keep current on our many activities and events including Inside the Directors Studio, the Genius of George Balanchine, Beer & Ballet, Previews, and more.

#HereWeDance - Be a part of the inspiring 2011-2012 season by subscribing now. We promise you enriching dance experiences at every turn with the best prices available.

We look forward to seeing you in the theatre and in our studios,

Ron Cunningham & Carinne Binda, Artistic Directors

Ron Cunningham’s powerful adaptation of the Bram Stoker classic mesmerizes with powerful and compelling drama. From twilight to dawn, Count Dracula stalks the night awakening dark desires in the hearts of beautiful women. Can the evil demon’s lustful thirst be stopped, or are we forever enthralled under his seductive spell?

For almost a quarter century, Ron Cunningham’s The Nutcracker has defined the holiday spirit. Whether it’s the first or 24th season you’ve experienced the magic, Sacramento’s favorite holiday tradition continues to delight and inspire as tiny mice, giant Christmas trees, sparkling snowflakes, and sweet Sugar Plum Fairies create family memories to last a lifetime.

Sacramento Ballet’S Send a child Program

You can introduce a child to the magical world of ballet by contributing $20 per child to support Sacramento Ballet’s Send a Child to the Ballet program.

Send a Child to the Ballet often gives children their first experience at a live performance, broadening their perspective of the world and helping them see beyond their front door to a world of possibilities.

Last year, more than 1,700 children from 34 different social service groups and schools had the opportunity to attend a performance through the Send a Child program.
