Catholic Communications Campaign

The essential mission of the CCC is to contribute to the process of

evangelization by fostering activities in relation to television,

radio, internet, and other media, and through special projects of the

Catholic press. An annual collection is taken up in the dioceses,

which remit 50% of the funds collected to the National Office.

From these funds, grants are made by the USCCB Subcommittee

on the Catholic Communication Campaign. The remaining portion

of the collection is retained by the dioceses for use in local

communication projects.

MARIAN PRAYER - OUR LADY HELP OF PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS

Overview

The 2018-2019 Marian Prayer Program presents the 18th Marian image

sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, this time of Our Lady Help of

Persecuted Christians. Each Knights of Columbus jurisdiction receives several

Marian images, which serve as the centerpieces for prayer services conducted in

churches and council meeting places throughout the Order for the duration of the

initiative. Since its inception in 1979, the Knights of Columbus’ Marian Prayer

Program has held more than 166,900 local council and parish prayer services with

some 20 million participants. This year, the prayer service is intended to raise

awareness of the plight of Christians persecuted for their faith and to stand in prayerful solidarity with them.

A Higher Purpose

Spread devotion to Our Lady and pray through the Marian Prayer Program for our brothers and sisters of faith

who are at risk around the world. As the new Marian image is brought on pilgrimage through the jurisdiction,

our council will host the Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians icon for a prayer service at our parish.

Sacred Heart Bluefield will host the Icon during the month of July. The Icon will be displayed at the Marian

Altar during the month. We will pray the Prayer for Persecuted Christians after Communion at each Mass

during July. There will be a prayer service honoring the Icon on July 31 at 6:30 PM.

This is a great Icon to stimulate family conversation and prayer about who we are as Catholics. Consider using

the Icon Prayer card to aid in prayer and reflection on the modern-day martyrs and those who suffer for their

faith.

Flowers for the Altar are donated by Ron & Sherry Ciccolini

in loving memory of Rose Ciccolini Brumbaugh.

Please welcome to our Sacred Heart Parish Family two new families: Allegra Hug and Austin Richardson and Foster and Julianna Learner! We are very blessed to have you as part of our parish family!

PRAYER FOR

PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS O God of all the nations,

the One God who is and was and always will be, in your providence you willed that your Church

be united to the suffering of your Son. Look with mercy on your servants

who are persecuted for their faith in you. Grant them perseverance and courage

to be worthy imitators of Christ. Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations

to work for peace among all peoples. May your Spirit open conversion

for those who contradict your will, that we may live in harmony.

Give us the grace to be united in truth and freedom, and to always seek your will in our lives.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians, pray for us.

Prayer composed by Archbishop William E. Lori, Supreme Chaplain
