  • In Our Parish...

FALSE PROPHETS, TRUE PROPHETS In Deuteronomy today we hear that God’s very words will fill the mouth of a true prophet, but a false prophet will, in a manner of speaking, put mere mortal words into God’s mouth. In Mark’s Gospel, we see Jesus teaching and healing as a true prophet, one filled with the authority of God’s own voice, the Holy One of God. The whole history of our church is filled with both true and false prophets. But in today’s Gospel we learn that Jesus’ fame spread because he taught with authority; he wasn’t an authority because he was popular or famous. We also learn from him, in his desert tempta on confron-ta ons with Satan, that anyone can quote scripture, even against God’s purposes. And today we hear that his au-thority was not like that of the scribes, who held the offi-cial posi ons of religious authority in his day. Our work is to do our best to discern the true prophets in our midst, and to be true prophets as well. The psalmist tells us how to do this: by not hardening our hearts when God speaks. If we truly listen to God, it will be God’s very words filling our mouths. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

  • Gathered as One Many faces, the young and the old, gathered as one in our God! Throughout hist’ry the story’s retold, gathered as one in our God! Like those come before us, we listen and learn. We remember the promise and await your return. So without hesita on a new genera on proclaims the salva on of God! Refrain: Gathered as one in Jesus your Son, li ing our voices in praise, we know and believe and long to receive the bread that is strength for our days, gathered as one! All Are Welcome Let us build a house where love can dwell And all can safely live, A place where saints and children tell How hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, Rock of faith and vault of grace; Here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place. Text: Marty Haugen, b.1950, © 1994, GIA Publications, Inc.

One Lord Refrain: One Lord, one faith, one call to serve each other. One heart, one mind, one common ground; we stand all as one. 1. Give us new hands, open and free, to serve with grace and dignity. May we be worthy of our call. We have but 2. Give us new eyes, loving and wise, to seek the good we all have inside. May we be worthy of our call. We have but 3. Give us new hearts, humble yet strong, to love like you our whole life long. May we be worthy of our call. We have but 4. Breathe out your Spirit upon the land. In hope and peace we’ll firmly stand, to live lives worthy of our call. We have but Text; Ephesians 4:1-24; Lori True, b. 1961, © 2003, GIA Publi-cations, Inc.

The Love of the Lord 1. All that I counted as gain now I consider as loss, empty and worthless to me in the light of the love of the Lord. 2. Riches and honors will fade, earthly delight disappear, fade like the grass of the field in the light of the love of the Lord. Refrain: What more could bring us hope than to know the pow'r of his life? What more could bring us peace than to share in his suff'ring and death? What more could be our final wish than to live in the love of the Lord? 3. Silver and gold have I none, no land to count as my home, yet wealth beyond measure I own in the light of the love of the Lord. 4. Faith is the wealth I possess Finding its source in my God: faith in the promise of Christ is my life and my love of the Lord. Text: Philippians 3:7-11; Michael Joncas, b.1951, © 1988, GIA Publications, Inc.
