God remains where love remains. When a believer realizes without
a doubt that God is love, it is a powerful moment. Being able to
place our resurrection trust in this fundamental truth allows us to
experience God’s presence in all of our experiences: the good and
the bad, positive and negative, life enriching and destructive events
we encounter. It is no wonder that St. Paul so accurately tells us
that it is love that endures all things and lasts. How can God not
endure or ever fade away? Because he is God, Jesus also guarded
and protected his disciples as the endearing shepherd who always had their best interest at heart.
If we become too immersed in the world, we lose touch with these deeper realities. We can become so
preoccupied with preserving what we have created or think that we need, forgetting that it is not
building our city that really matters, but God’s. Jesus clearly did not belong to the world and, by virtue
of his resurrection, he tries to get us to understand that we do not either. The truth brings us to other
worldly, more divine places and takes our eyes off of the concerns that often captivate our fears and
storm our senses.
Life can easily erode our faith. Think of your life over the last couple of weeks. What challenged your
faith and distracted your divine glance? Even being overly stimulated with technology and social media
can erode our sense of confidence and cause us to forget who we really are. We need to distance
ourselves from the world in order to experience the joy that Christ offers. The world will never like the
word of God. It is too challenging and too perplexing. The world mistakenly believes that it can survive
on its own. It is a mistaken judgment that may cost people a lot in the end. It is all so very simple: God
remains when we love one another. If in all the business of our lives and all that each day brings, the
good and the bad, we follow the call and path of love, we will walk with God. There is nothing to fear
and anxiety finds no home.
“Yo ya no estoy más en el mundo, pero ellos se quedan en el mundo,
mientras yo vuelvo a ti. Padre Santo, guárdalos en ese Nombre tuyo
que a mí me diste, para que sean uno como nosotros” (Juan 17:11).
Jesús, en este pasaje del Evangelio de Juan, reza por nosotros. Desea
que tengamos alegría plena, que nos consagremos en la verdad de su
Palabra. Advierte que estamos en el mundo, pero no somos del
mundo. Desea que seamos guardados en Dios, esto significa que
estamos llamados a ser santos, como Dios es Santo. Jesús también nos
enseña cómo pedir al Padre lo que necesitamos, lo que es necesario para nuestra salvación.
Muchas veces, nosotros pedimos cosas innecesarias, y al no obtenerlas nos alejamos de Dios, porque
pensamos que no nos escucha. Queremos que nuestra vida sea fácil, sin ningún sacrificio por la familia o la
comunidad. Pedimos, pero no damos nada a cambio. Somos ciegos al amor y misericordia de Dios ofrecida
al mundo por medio de su Hijo Jesucristo. La oración de Jesús es viva presencia de la Gloria de Dios en el
mundo. “Yo les he dado tu mensaje y el mundo los ha odiado porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo
soy del mundo. No te pido que los saques del mundo, sino que los defiendas del Maligno. Ellos no son del
mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo” (Juan 17:14-16). La Solemnidad de la Ascensión es punto clave
para comprender esta parte de la oración. Vivimos en el mundo, pero vamos hacia el cielo.

Dcn. Richard serves as Pastoral Associate. Under Fr. Trung’s
direction, he manages the Liturgical life of the parish by
overseeing all liturgical events from Masses to adoration,
stations of the cross, funerals, baptisms, liturgy of the hours
and other duties as requested by Fr. Trung. He also serves as
a Deacon by assisting in the sacramental life of our parish by
presiding over baptisms, marriages and funerals.
Dcn. Richard has a B.A. in Political Science and a M.A. in
Pastoral Studies. He has been a Sacred Heart of Jesus
parishioner since 1994 (26 years). He was ordained a
Permanent Deacon in January 2013 and joined our staff in
August 2016. His previous experiences have included
working 28 years with ConocoPhillips, a Station Manager at Radio Maria for 1 year and owned
an insurance agency for 4 years.
Dcn. Richard was born June 1958 and raised in El Paso, Texas. He has been married to Norma
Reyes since September 1990 and they have 2 young adult daughters, Kelly and Michelle.
Dcn. Richard enjoys grilling assorted meats in the spring, summer and fall. In the winter, he
enjoys stocking up on firewood in preparation for grilling season. He grows several (12)
varieties of Aloe, 2 are medicinal.
Dcn. Richard enjoys the social interaction with our parishioners. The socializing and eventually
building a relationship makes it easier to discuss more intimate topics like our relationship
with God and each other. He enjoys helping people in their faith journey and in return he
learns as well.
A few members of our staff have worked at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community for a long time. Some of our Clergy have served here for a
long time and some are relatively new. Part of our staff and clergy have been parishioners here before being employed! Staff members have
shared some information about who they are, what their role is here, why they work for the Church, and what they offer you, the parishioner!
Enjoy getting to know them all a little more. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of them to help you grow in your stewardship to God.

Algunos miembros de nuestro personal han trabajado en la Comunidad Católica
del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús durante mucho tiempo. Algunos miembros de
nuestro clero han servido aquí durante mucho tiempo y algunos son
relativamente nuevos. ¡Parte de nuestro personal y el clero han sido feligreses

El Diácono Richard sirve en la parroquia como Asociado Pastoral. Bajo la dirección del
Padre Trung, el se encarga de la vida litúrgica de la parroquia supervisando todos los
eventos litúrgicos, incluyendo las misas, la adoración al santísimo, el viacrucis, los
funerales, bautismos, la liturgia de las horas y otros deberes que sean asignados por el
Padre Trung. También sirve como diácono ayudando en la vida sacramental de nuestra
parroquia celebrando bautismos, bodas y funerales.
El Diácono Richard tiene una licenciatura en Ciencias Políticas y una Maestría en Estudios
Pastorales. Ha sido un feligrés del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús desde 1994 (26 años). Fue
ordenado Diácono Permanente en enero de 2013 y formo parte de nuestro personal en
agosto de 2016. Sus experiencias anteriores incluyen haber trabajado 28 años con
ConocoPhillips, gerente de estación de radio para Radio María durante 1 año y propietario
de una agencia de seguros durante 4 años.
El Diácono Richard nació en junio de 1958 y creció en El Paso, Texas. Está casado con
Norma Reyes desde septiembre de 1990 y tienen 2 hijas adultas, Kelly y Michelle.
Al Diácono Richard le gusta asar diferentes tipos de carnes durante la primavera, verano y
otoño. En el invierno, le gusta almacenar leña en preparación para la temporada de
parrilladas. Cultiva diferentes variedades de sábila (12), 2 de estas son medicinales.
El Diácono Richard disfruta de la interacción social con nuestros feligreses. El socializar lo
lleva a construir una relación que hace más fácil hablar de temas más íntimos como
nuestra relación con Dios y con los demás. Le gusta ayudar a las personas en su camino de
fe y en el proceso aprender también de ellos.

La devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús ha existido desde los primeros tiempos de la Iglesia, cuando se meditaba en el costado y el Corazón abierto de Jesús, de donde salió sangre y agua. De ese Corazón nació la Iglesia y por ese Corazón se abrieron las puertas del Cielo. La devoción al Sagrado Corazón está por encima de otras devociones porque veneramos al mismo Corazón de Dios. Pero fue Jesús mismo quien, en el siglo diecisiete, en Paray-le-Monial, Francia, solicitó, a través de una humilde religiosa, que se estableciera definitiva y específicamente la devoción a su Sacratísimo Corazón.
El 16 de junio de 1675 se le apareció Nuestro Señor y le mostró su Corazón a Santa Margarita María de Alacoque. Su Corazón estaba rodeado de llamas de amor, coronado de espinas, con una herida abierta de la cual brotaba sangre y, del interior de su corazón, salía una cruz. Santa Margarita escuchó a Nuestro Señor decir: "He aquí el Corazón que tanto ha amado a los hombres, y en cambio, de la mayor parte de los hombres no recibe nada más que ingratitud, irreverencia y desprecio, en este sacramento de amor." Con estas palabras Nuestro Señor mismo nos dice en qué consiste la devoción a su Sagrado Corazón. La devoción en sí está dirigida a la persona de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo y a su amor no correspondido, representado por su Corazón. Dos actos esenciales de esta devoción: amor y reparación. Amor, por lo mucho que Él nos ama. Reparación y desagravio, por las muchas injurias que recibe sobre todo en la Sagrada Eucaristía.
Una de las prácticas principales vinculadas a la devoción del Sagrado Corazón es la devoción a los nueve Primeros Viernes de mes, la cual se deriva de una de las doce promesas que el Corazón de Jesús hizo a Santa Margarita María. La Iglesia siempre ha consagrado los viernes a nuestro Señor Jesucristo, en conmemoración de su dolorosa Pasión. Hoy se le consagra aún de un modo más especial, desde que Jesús mismo se apareció a Santa Margarita María , haciéndole la gran promesa de la comunión en los Primeros Viernes de mes. Debido a esta maravillosa promesa, esta devoción es hoy en día una de las más populares en la Iglesia.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has existed since the early days of the Church, when it was meditated in the open Heart of Jesus were meditated, from which blood and water came out. Saint Margaret heard Our Lord say: "Here is the Heart that has loved men so much, and on the other hand, from the majority of men receives nothing but ingratitude, irreverence and contempt, in this sacrament of love." With these words Our Lord himself tells us what devotion to his Sacred Heart consists of. The devotion itself is directed to the person of Our Lord Jesus Christ and to his unrequited love, represented by his Heart. Two essential acts of this devotion: love and reparation. Love, because of how much He loves us. Reparation and redress, for the many insults he receives, especially in the Holy Eucharist.
One of the main practices linked to the devotion of the Sacred Heart is the devotion to the nine First Fridays of the month, which is derived from one of the twelve promises that the Heart of Jesus made to Saint Margaret Mary. The Church has always consecrated Fridays to our Lord Jesus Christ, in commemoration of his painful Passion. Today it is consecrated to him in an even more special way, since Jesus himself appeared to Saint Margaret Mary, making her the great promise of communion on the First Friday of the month. Because of this wonderful promise, this devotion is one of the most popular in the Church today.

Now Forming - Building and Grounds Committee The mission of the Building and Grounds Committee (BGC) is to assist the parish in the care and
planning of the physical properties of the Church. These include all buildings on the church campus, the
social ministry building and grounds. The committee is concerned with the state and condition of parish
facilities and property, their maintenance and upkeep, prioritizing and presenting needs to the Pastor,
Staff and Finance Council. This committee will play an important role in the development and
monitoring of a master site plan. This committee will also assist in developing a written Disaster
Recovery plan. Members should have knowledge or expertise in the areas of architecture, construction,
landscaping, cleaning, building systems or maintenance.
If you are interested in serving on this committee or would like to learn more about the responsibilities
of the Building and Grounds Committee, we will have a virtual informational meeting for prospective
members on Tuesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. Please contact Marianne Larson, Director of Administration

instructions.

The Altar Society cordially invites you to join us in fellowship as we continue serving God and our church community. We assist the pastor in the care and adornment of the altar, sanctuary, sacristy, and confessional. The Altar Society earns funds in efforts to provide for the Church wine, hosts, candles, and altar flowers. We do this by hosting bake sales, sponsoring the Knights of Columbus Bingo Concession stand three times a month, and collecting donations. On an annual basis, we sponsor a Senior Luncheon for the members of our community, and donate to special needs. Our success lies in recruiting dedicated parishioners willing to devote time and talents. Members meet on the first Thursday of the month, at 7:00 p.m., via Zoom. El ministerio de la Sociedad del Altar les hace la cordialmente invitación a acompañarles a compartir
mientras continúan sirviendo a Dios y a nuestra comunidad parroquial. Este ministerio asiste al párroco con el cuidado y decoración del altar, el santuario, la
sacristía y el confesionario. La Sociedad del Altar recauda fondos para poder proveer el vino, hostias, velas y las flores para el altar de la Iglesia. El dinero se
recauda organizando ventas de pasteles, ayudando en el puesto de comida del bingo (lotería) de los Caballeros de Colón, tres veces al mes y por donaciones. Cada año,
patrocinan un almuerzo para las personas de la tercera edad donde asisten miembros de nuestra comunidad y también hacen donaciones para otras necesidades
especiales. Su éxito está en reclutar feligreses dedicados/as que estén dispuestos/as a dedicar su tiempo y su talento.
Los miembros se reúnen cada primer jueves del mes, a las 7:00 p.m., virtualmente, a través de Zoom. Por favor
